THAT DAY I BECAME A STAR

WILLIAM KOERSOMBRE POV:

Just look around us. Everything, everyone is dying. We cannot win this. Even if Dilt didn't come here, we would have still lost the moment the heroes were defeated. Now, we can only flee. Just as always. We will flee and restart things over. As long as it the two of us, I can bear it. I can bear the consequences. I can make it through the looks of people who will judge us. Because you are here. But if I lose you as well. I will…

"Are you going to do it again?" 

"What?" Rebecca is crying like…like that day. Could it be?

"Are you going to abandon those who are important to us, to me, once again?"

"You…you remember?" 

"Answer me." 

"I…" I don't want to do it. I want to fight and save everyone. But what can I do? I am a coward. I wish to live long. I want to see your smiling face even if it is not for me that you are smiling. "I cann-"

"Then, this is our farewell, I guess." Rebecca smiles with tears running down her cheeks and breaks free from me.

"MEETIA'S DOMAIN!! ABSOLUTE FAITH!!" 

She then unleashes her script and once again, the ground starts shining. Even though it is not as strong as before, it is shining. Every soldier also starts glowing green, even me. The light of healing…She is trying to heal everyone here? With her current condition, her Angas will be depleted in no time.

Even the Longinus present stop as she did that. I can feel 

"Soldiers of the eternal army!!! Do not forget your purpose!! We are invincible because we are together!! Not because of an individual!!!"

She faces Dilt while saying that then looks at miss Farner whose wound have already stop bleeding. Miss Excia also comes t her, seeing as the situation has calmed down a bit, and start healing her as well. Why is miss Roxcia still not doing anything? She is just staying there, sitting pitifully next to her sister, even her divine gear is not there anymore. Can I judge her though? Do I have that qualification?

"Are you not going to shut her up?" The Longinus leader looks at Dilt who then raises his sword.

"We must fight!! Even if it is hard!! Even if it seems impossible!! We must fight!! Because we are humanity's shield!! Because we are humanity's sword!!!" 

"Titanic slash." 

Dilt unleashes a Titanic slash at her and twelve slashes appears in the air. 

"YOU MUST FIGHT!!!"

As her shield blocks the attack, she screams one last time. Silence then falls on the battlefield until somebody breaks it first.

"Orahh!!!" 

A first soldier launches himself at Dilt and gets killed. Then another one. They turn into a suicidal bunch, throwing their lives away either on Dilt or on the Longinus general. And what I am doing here? What am I daydreaming here for? Should I not flee as well? I cannot save her anymore? I am too weak for that. But I can still save myself, right? After all, if I do, no one will blame me. I will have survived so that will be the most important.

"What are you still doing here?" Rebecca looks at me with a disappointed and sad look.

"What am I still doing here?" 

"Aren't you going to flee? You are quite good at that, right? The only protector in all history that failed to his duty. The only father who did as well." 

"Are you trying to provoke me?" 

"I am just stating facts. After all, isn't it the truth? That I made the worst choice possible by falling in love with a man like you." 

"How dare you!" 

"Show me that I am wrong then!!! Only those who fight can change things!! Only those who are ready to sacrifice can change something!! Didn't you say it yourself?!!!" 

I know I said it but…I never thought it applied to me as well. No, I never wanted it to apply to me. But if it really does, can I really change something by fighting? 

"Will he ever forgive me if I fight?" 

"He surely won't if you don't." 

"I see." 

"Kriekk!!" 

So I can only fight, huh…I am not sure something will change if I fight. But indeed, I don't, nothing will change; right?

I kill the dall who just jumped on Rebecca then as I stand before her, Dilt cuts through another soldier. 

"This is getting annoying." He finally releases his aura. A red, cold, and bloody aura. "I don't have time to play anymore." 

He sheathes his sword and it starts glowing. A bright red light illuminates the battlefield for an instant then as he unsheathes it…

"SHIELD OF FAITH!!!" 

"Moon cutter." 

Dilt's attack flashes before my eyes. I tried to hold my sword with everything I have, infusing all my Angas into it. Rebecca deploys her shield with all her might as well. But her shield got cut in half, and my chest now hurts like hell.

"Gyaa!!" I fall to the ground while holding the lower half of my sword. The upper half must have fallen somewhere.

"William!!" But hearing your voice, I guess you are okay so it is good. And there is the end, I fought, and here is the result. But now at least, no one will ever say I was weak, right?

"Cough…" I have a hard time speaking when Rebecca takes me into her arms. Ah, who knew I would ever see your crying face again. I caress her hair while she starts healing me but it is no use. 

"It is no use. You guys have lost." See, Dilt is already here. You should leave. "But I have changed my mind. I will give an honorable death as a warrior. You were one of my few trusted knights after all." 

"I won't let you." 

Rebecca covers me with her body and I can only see Dilt raising his sword. But then the strangest thing happens. His aura suddenly goes out of control.

"W-what?!! No!! No way!!" 

He backs away from and while Rebecca is raising herself up to look, Dilt's face started withering. 

"No!!! Why?!! How could you fail like this?!!! I don't know what is happening but it seems something is going on and it is good for us.

"Urghh…" I use every bit of strength I have and stand up.

"No, don't move." Rebecca tries to hold me down but I manage to shake her off and stand up. Then I take the upper part of my severed sword and walk to Dilt. I can hardly put a foot before the others without feeling extreme pain from my chest. But I will do this. I have to.

"UAAAAARGH!!!" Before I can reach him, Dilt falls to his knees. His face now looks like someone who has died a long time ago. There is no life present in this body anymore. But still, just to make sure.

"This…Huff…Huff…this is for betraying us." I strike him with my sword. Or at least I think I did. The sword stays in his helmet while his body falls backward; landing on the ground with a silent noise. 

I can't continue. This is my limit. I fall on my knees as well and horse's footsteps tell me my time is near as well. The Longinus leader walks to me then looks at Dilt's body. The heroes have stopped fighting? Then this is really the end.

"Hm…I don't know what happened but it seems he lost after all. You, what is your name?" Is this Longinus asking for my name? Really? 

"Huff…William. Simpy William." I was never a true Koersombre, to begin with. 

"Well, William. You did well. As a reward, I will kill you on a single strike, okay?" 

"Huff…Are…Huff…Are you asking me or telling me?" Just get this over with already.

"You humans have no sense of humor. Come on, smile. You won't suffer like the others around you. Especially that annoying woman. She will know of real despair soon." 

"Don't you dare-Cough…" I try to speak but only blood wants to come out. You won't touch a finger of Rebecca as long as I am alive. 

Come on, fucking legs, move already. This is my time. This is the time to do something. 

"There is no need for you to stand up. Just di-"

Right before she can finish, an explosion resounds. 

"Come on, I will come for you later, heroes. Just wait for a bit, okay?" I see, that was miss Excia's doing. Thanks for trying to save me but it is no use. Like I thought from the beginning, only cowards live long.

"Kriek!!!" 

"Kriekk!!!" 

"Kriekk!!!" 

Suddenly, I hear the Longinus screaming, all of them are screaming at something. Right after that, my vision comes back. The pain from my chest subsides as well. 

I turn around to look at Rebecca but she is okay. There are no Longinus near her. What is happening?

"Hm…" I look back at the Longinus leader and it is looking at the sky. All the Longinus are doing so as well. What are they looking at? 

When I look as well, the dome that they created disappeared. Instantly, Just like that, it disappeared. Then a red dot, a red star appears in the sky and falls on us. My heart starts beating crazy fast as that star is falling. Why is that relief feeling I have? It is as if all my problems have been instantly solved. 

The Longinus moves away from me and the next moment, the star lands. Lighting bolts fly everywhere as it does and weird enough, I am not hit by any of them. 

"Kriekk!!" 

"Kriekk!!" 

The Longinus are, though. Even the leader blocks one of the lightning bolts with her hands which flies off from the impact. 

"You really look pitiful right now, you know? Shitty dad." 

"No way."
