The Alpha King
Chapter 62 - 62
I didn't get to her in time. Aura and the rest of her children had left. Straight after the meeting I ignored Xavier and went in search for her. I was informed by one of the werwolves from her pack, Lacy, that she had left with the group of non fighters, children and elders.
She had buried Jacob straight after the fight. I can't even begin to imagine the pain she must be going through right now. I rubbed my chest when memories of my parents flashed before my eyes.
All these later and their memory was still fresh in my mind. I could picture their faces perfectly. My dads laughing lines and his slightly crooked nose. My mother's gentle eyes and her beautiful face. They say you forget the sound of your loved ones voices as time goes on but I can remember my dads throaty laugh and my mothers awful singing as if it were yesterday.
I wiped the tear that slipped from my eye and quickly moved away from the cluster of tents I was standing amongst. The harsh reality of everything in my life came rushing back.
Cadmer.
Just mentioning his name made me so blindingly furious. All of this was his fault. I hadn't in the slithers forgotten about that sadist.
I clenched my fists. I'm sure he was delighting in our suffering right now. He probably thinks he is going to win this war and successfully kill Xavier and I.
Ha, he has another thing coming.
I made my way through the melting snow. My head down, my fists clenched. My murderous thoughts were cut short when I bumped into a large chest. I rubbed my forehead and glared looked up and glared at Killian.
He stood in front of me and crossed his arms.
"Luna, I thought our lessons would at least prepare you to be able to see where you're going." He said sarcastically.
"Killian, I am not in the mood right now." I said and moved to walk passed him. He gripped my arm before I could storm away and pulled me back in front of him.
"Luna, walk with me." He said sounding actually genuine for once. I thought about it for a second and realised I didn't actually want to go back to the castle and see Xavier so why not delay it for as long as I can.
I huffed and gestured for him to lead the way. We fell into a some what comfortable silence as we walked side by side. Killian was leading the way so I followed him. We walked away from the tents and we seemed to be going around the castle.
The snow was melting so it was far easier to walk. In some places you could see the dark brown of the earth peeking out. It was still freezing however and I watched as clouds of air blew from my mouth.
"You didn't use your power on the battlefield, did you." Killian remained facing forward as we continued walking. He said it so calmly.
"No," I sighed.
"Why."
I closed my eyes and knew I couldn't lie to him. After all the weeks we have spent together I did respect Killian. I regarded him as my teacher and a friend. Yes, he was as hard as nails and a miserable, sarcastic little shit half the time but that's just how he was.
"Because-because I was scared." He looked down at me from the side of his head then and raised an eyebrow.
"From what I heard, you were nothing but fearless."
I shook my head. He didn't know about the Moon Goddesses warning. Could I tell him?
"I don't have any problems with physically fighting but I'm scared. I'm scared of my power. I'm scared I could hurt people."
Killian stopped then and looked at me. He gestured behind me and I turned and saw a bench under a large naked tree that I'm sure must be beautiful in the summertime.
I went towards it and sat down and he did the same.
"Luna, I thought we were making progress and that you at least were not afraid of it. I thought we were passed that."
We were I wanted to shout but Xavier just had to go and ruin all of that. I leaned forward and held my head between my hands.
"I know, I thought so to."
"I had a mate."
I sat straight up at his words. My shock quickly turned into sadness as his words registered, "had".
Killian remained looking ahead as I turned my body around to look at his side profile. He clenched his jaw.
"What happened," I asked gently.
"She was murdered by Spell Casters. They attacked the castle two years ago and during the attack whilst I was fighting she was killed in our home. It was all my fault."
"How was it your fault?" I asked in confusion as my heart aches for him. I'm surprised he's even functioning. To loose a mate, that is the most painful thing anyone can ever go through. Rejection you can survive but the death of a mate that's something else.
"Because I left her." He ground out. He looked so angry, angry at himself.
"You were fighting Killian, that isn't your fault."
He turned around abruptly to look at me then, angry beyond belief.
"No, it is my fault. I was the one that never trained her. I was the one that told her she couldn't fight. I was the one that didn't let her learn to defend herself because I was so scared of her fighting in battle and getting hurt or killed! It was all my fault. So when those Spell casters came into our home and killed her she couldn't even properly defend herself." His anger dissipated as he let his head bow.
He looked so defeated and my heart ached to see Killian of all people looking so defeated. No wonder her was the way he was.
"Killian, you can't blame yourself for this. She was a werewolf she could have defended herself and besides every werewolf undergoes the basics fighting skills so I'm sure she had that. Yes, okay maybe you didn't want her fighting but that's only because you wanted her safe and she understood that. The only people to blame are the Spell Casters."
He sighed and looked away. He didn't believe me, he fully believed it was his fault.
"You have to defend yourself Luna, your power is a gift, one that you can use to help yourself and others around you. You have to trust yourself and trust in your power."
I nodded not knowing what else to say.
Trust. Could I ever trust myself and my power?
"Have you and Xavier sorted out whatever you were fighting about." I realised Killian was down talking about his mate and wanted to change the topic and I could understand why. I rolled my eyes and huffed out a breath.
"No, not really. He lied to me about something seriously important and I've just about had it with his lies. You know what he always says, "I lied to protect you." I said the last part mimicking his deep voice. Killian raised a brow at me but it felt good talking about this so I continued.
"I refuse to let him off this time and I told him I need time. I need to let my emotions and feelings marinate." I huffed and Killian said confused, "marinate?" He scrunched up his face.
"Yes Killian marinate, anyway I told him I need time and I just know he isn't going to give me any more time especially not after the battle. As soon as I walk into that castle he's going to chain me to his bed."
Killian looked disgusted, "ahhh, I really don't need those kind of details." Now I was the one confused until it hit me where his thoughts were. "Killian, I don't mean he's going to chain me to his bed so that we can get down and dirty, jeeez I mean as in to keep me locked up." I said hitting his arm.
He actually laughed and I smiled at seeing him lighten up a bit.
"So why don't you just go talk to him?"
I was about to reply when I noticed Sebastian walking towards us. As he swaggered his way to us I noticed he looked as if this was any other grand day. He didn't look as if he just finished fight in a battle. His hair was gelled and styled and he wore a crisp white suit.
"My, my but you two spend an awful lot of time together." He said with a broad smile on his face. I ignored his comment and asked him why exactly he was here.
"His Royal Majesty requested time see you both pronto." He said still smiling and I couldn't help but find it odd that Xavier didn't just mind link me. I mean why send Sebastian to call us?
I got up from the bench along with Killian and said okay. Sebastian went towards Killian and sling his arm around Killians neck. Sebastian was slimmer in size but taller by a few inches compared to Killian.
Killian growled and was about to shrug his arm of when Sebastian plunged a knife straight...into...Killians...heart.
I froze as shock paralysed my entire body. Sebastian white suite was littered with splashes of Killians blood. I watched as Sebastian withdrew his knife and look down at himself with annoyance as Killians body fell to the ground.
Everything happened within a split second. It was like deja vu all over again when I watched Jacob being robbed of his life.
I looked up still in shock and saw Sebastian wiping his knife off with a handkerchief. I immediately flew at him but all of a sudden my body froze and this time it wasn't my doing. Something literally froze my body.
What? This-this has to be magic. Is Sebastian as Spell Caster? No, he can't be, that would be impossible.
Everything quickly fell into perspective when I heard his sickening voice from behind me where the forest was.
"Ah, Kitten, I told you I'd see you again."
I tried to scream but nothing came out and even if I did this was a secluded area, away front be castle. No one would hear me. I quickly tried to mind link Xavier but I was could t either.
I was truly alone.. Alone with a monster.
She had buried Jacob straight after the fight. I can't even begin to imagine the pain she must be going through right now. I rubbed my chest when memories of my parents flashed before my eyes.
