The Arrancar

Chapter 21 - Almost There

"Now Tosen, what if I told you that I sent Grimmjow to the world of the Living? Is there still an issue?" Hexxius's face had a smile that wasn't a smile as he looked at Kaname, of course, the blind man couldn't see his face but the shock that an Arrancar was able to block his sword was visible.

"What? Did you think that no one was capable of defending against your blatant overreach? You aren't responsible for the discipline of the Arrancar, not even remotely. Espada Cero is responsible for that and that duty has been delegated to me, therefore why are you so adamant about punishing my poor Espada?" Jumping down off of Grimmjow's shoulder, Hexxius's bȧrė feet made a slight noise on the cold floor. Sheathing his Zanpakuto, Hexxius looked up at Kaname and waited for the response. "So can you answer my questions, Director-General?"

Hexxius smiled brightly as he looked up at Kaname waiting patiently. While Kaname felt the small Arrancar's spirit energy ripple through the area slowly cutting off his ability to see. 'He is very serious about protecting Grimmjow. If I go further this won't end in a simple argument.'

"While it is surprising that there is an Arrancar powerful enough to defend my attacks, it is to be expected if we are to be going to war with the 13 court Guard Squads. Also, I felt that Grimmjow overstepped his bounds and disobeyed orders."

"Well let me ask you, were there ever any orders prohibiting Arrancar from going to the world of the living?" Hexxius's smile grew larger as Aizen watched from the Throne. 'It seems I didn't factor in the thoughts or emotions of the Arrancar into this, but it doesn't matter. They don't have the power to stand against me.'

Hexxius didn't miss the eyes that Aizen just made. 'He doesn't know, that's good. There are definitely some thoughts that are passing through his head, that man is insanely intelligent. However, he is a self-absorbed individual, with nothing but confidence in his power so the thought of a rebellion probably never even crossed his mind.'

Kamane was tongue-tied as there were indeed zero orders preventing Arrancar from going to the world of the Living. "There are none."

Hexxius let out a laugh, a hearty, ugly laugh, the type you make when you seem to have heard the funniest joke to date. "So let me make this clear Kaname, Involve yourself in the affairs of the Espada again and I will kill you."

The Small Arrancar then turned around and walked away as his small feet pitter-pattered on the stone. Pausing mid-stride he turned around and looked at Grimmjow. "Are you coming or not?" Beckoning the blue-haired Arrancar to come on Hexxius then turned around again and walked away.

Grimmjow looked at Hexxius then at Kaname and said "See you little Boy Scout, you turn into a little bitch when the number on their body is lower huh?" With his hands in his pockets, Grimmjow walked away leaving the disgruntled Kaname and the Interested Aizen. The whole time Layla is sitting in her Palace watching intently, at her side was Lilynette who watched on but was extremely confused.

"Lady Layla, is it wise to antagonize Kaname so much? Also threatening him in front of Aizen is a little much don't you think?" Lilynette looked at Layla who was deep in thought.

"Aizen doesn't really care about Kaname, he's just using him to carry out his plans. To be fair there aren't that many people he does care about, at least I don't think he has anyone he truly cares about. He was born superior, he had no peer he ever truly considered his equal, as time went on he started to abhor the very place he lived. You know the rest of the story as does all Arrancar here, he doesn't see us as a threat, maybe me but he doesn't know the full extent of my power nor what my powers actually are." Layla looked at Lilynette and smiled.

"As from the first time he met me to this point I have undergone various evolutions and mutations, my power by the day approaches his, soon the gap between us will be no more. Once that happens there will be no need to keep up appearances. In fact, by the time we invade the world of the Living he and I will be equal...in my Base form that is." Layla stood up and put on her Uniform top, "I'm headed to the basement, the rest of the Espada should be on the way. You and Stark should finish your training."

Walking through Las Noches Grimmjow followed behind Hexxius as they made their way to Layla's Palace for an after-action review and to plan out their future actions. Hexxius walked slowly looking around at the landscape of Las Noches. " Aizen is suspicious but he won't do anything as long as we continue with what he has planned. Did you notice how he was going to allow Kaname to cut your arm off?"

Grimmjow's eyes narrowed as his aura grew sharper. " I noticed that. Aizen always claims how we are 'His dear Espada' however if we were so dear such a thing would have never been allowed to happen."

"Layla, Nel, and Myself all knew from the beginning that he didn't care for us, this is nothing more than something temporary to make our way onto the world stage." Hexxius smiled as he said this as the two walked into the courtyard, making their way through the main entrance then down the stairs into the basement meeting room of Layla's Palace.

Looking at the Espada all seated Layla spoke.. "Now that we are all here let us begin. First let's talk about the short invasion of the world of the living that just transpired, Grimmjow, what did you think of the Soul Reapers?"
