The Birthday Of a Special Stranger

His reaction was the least she imagined. Unexpectedly, her annoying talkative little mouth run out of words. He slowly approached her face, gently putting his lips on hers. Her lips were soft and sweet, and so was the way he kissed her. Unable to resist anymore, she closed her eyes and kissed him back. They both wished that brief moment would last forever.

On Saturday morning, Jolene went out with her best friend Liz. They headed towards the shopping center to buy new clothes. Finally, and after a long day of wandering around, they bought two evening dresses, high heels, makeup, and some bags and jewelry.

"I'm so tired Liz, let's have some rest since we have bought all that we need."

"It was such a long day, but I feel extremely happy and excited when seeing all the pretty things we bought."

"That's true. Shopping is indeed the best cure for boredom and stress."

Anna was hanging around with some friends when she suddenly shouted "Jolene!"

 "Hi Anna, what's up?"

"Ah it's really you. It's Saturday so I'm having fun with some friends. What about you?"

She said while peeking at the bags in Jolene's hands, before she added is a sarcastic, mean tone.

"So you have bought some new stuff! I bet it's all for my birthday party. You know sweet Jolene, there's no harm in looking pretty. However, putting too much effort into it in order to be the center of attention is a bit over the line. It's MY birthday party after all. See you around."

Anna walked proudly as she passed by, laughing loudly with her so called friends.

"Don't be upset Jolene; you know how she randomly vents her poison on people."

"It's okay Liz; her words never affected me anyway."

"I know but still, her jealousy is so obvious and she doesn't even try to hide it anymore. She's such an eye sour."

"Let's keep going Liz, and don't badmouth her, she's not even worth it."

While talking with Liz, Jolene's phone rang.

"Oh, it's mom calling."

"Hi mom, what's up?"

"Jolene sweetheart, are you done shopping?"

"Yes, I was about to have lunch with Liz. Did anything happen? Your voice seems more enthusiastic than usual."Jolene said looking confused.

"Is it that obvious? Well, something did happen today and you better come home quickly. There is a pleasant surprise waiting for you!"
