#335 - The Butterfly Effect
"Does anyone have a plan?" Kid Flash asked in the mental link.
After being overwhelmingly defeated by Yang Le and Superboy, the Team woke up to find themselves trapped in glass pods similar to Superboy's stasis chamber. Of course, their hands and feet were restrained, leaving them with almost only their facial features mobile.
"Let's just wait for Mr. Yang Le to rescue us," Aqualad replied. He had tried to break free upon waking, but his strength was clearly insufficient to escape the glass pod's restraints. If he couldn't manage it, then the others in the team certainly wouldn't stand a chance.
"Speaking of which, can't you phase through walls?" Robin asked, looking at Kid Flash beside him. "I remember Flash being able to pass through objects."
"I haven't learned that trick yet," Kid Flash replied, looking dejected. "Flash hasn't taught it to me yet. I didn't have enough speed before, and now that I do, I haven't had time to learn."
"Can't you just figure it out?"
"Come on! If I mess it up, I could get stuck! I might get sliced in half!"
Robin and Kid Flash were gesturing wildly, causing Superboy to frown. He turned to Yang Le beside him and asked, "What are they doing?"
Yang Le, of course, knew what these guys were up to. They were obviously communicating via telepathy, but he also didn't understand why Kid Flash and Robin had such rich facial expressions. If their bodies weren't restrained, their expressive faces would probably escalate into wild gesticulations.
"Maybe they're having muscle spasms?" Yang Le pretended not to understand and guessed.
Superboy frowned even deeper upon hearing this. He felt that Yang Le was wrong, but he couldn't come up with a better explanation.
Yang Le glanced at the silent four. If he remembered correctly, in the original story, Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad would start verbally persuading Superboy at this point, attempting to get him to rescue them. But they weren't doing that now.
The reason was simple: due to Yang Le's interference, this universe, which was similar to 'Young Justice,' had obviously diverged significantly from the original.
In the original plot, Speedy would leave the Justice League and go solo, but now he was staying with Young Justice. Miss Martian would normally join after Superboy joined, but now she had joined before Superboy.
The reason they weren't using verbal persuasion on Superboy now was probably because they had backup, namely Yang Le, their guardian. After all, in the original story, they were acting secretly, but now they were on an officially sanctioned mission, albeit with the same old ulterior motives.
It seemed he needed to think of something, or Superboy might miss out on the Young Justice connection.
Yang Le frowned and quietly sent a message to White Mutant and his other self: 'Situation is not right, change the plan.'
"Speaking of which, why isn't Yang Le here yet?" Wally mentally calculated the time. Although he didn't know how long he'd been unconscious, they'd been arguing for quite a while now, so it must have been a considerable amount of time.
"Stop rushing, kid," Yang Le's voice sounded in the mental link, startling Wally.
"I forgot to tell you," Miss Martian said apologetically. "Just in case, I also added Mr. Yang Le to the link."
"Please tell us about these things earlier next time, thank you," Wally said, still shaken. Luckily, he hadn't said anything bad.
"What? You wanted me to tell you earlier so you wouldn't say bad things about me and get caught?" Yang Le teased.
"No, no," Wally chuckled dryly.
"Mr. Yang Le, where are you now?" Aqualad asked. Compared to Wally, Jackson was much more polite.
"Cadmus is now on high alert. There are countless monsters here, and they're all blocking my way," Yang Le sighed and continued, "If you had told me earlier, I wouldn't have come. Aqualad, I didn't expect you to join in on their mischief too."
Aqualad was filled with shame and said, "I'm sorry, sir."
"It's good that you can admit your mistakes," Yang Le said, while talking to the young heroes and using the Omnitrix to scan the Genomorphs, checking their physical condition.
These Genomorphs were, after all, products of cloning technology, and they inevitably had some problems in their bodies. Except for the White Genomorph, all the other Genomorphs didn't have very long lifespans. According to the White Genomorph's calculations, ordinary Genomorphs only had a lifespan of about twenty years. Once they reached that age, their bodies would start to collapse.
This was a technological defect. The Cadmus laboratory was also trying hard to solve this problem, but unfortunately, the results were minimal.
But for Yang Le, who possessed the Omnitrix, this was right up his alley. Repairing genetic defects was one of the core functions of the little device, and being able to help the Genomorphs solve their problems was one of the reasons why the White Genomorph would help him.
Moreover, Yang Le wasn't lying to the kids. There were indeed many monsters here, and they were all blocking his way. Yang Le needed to scan them one by one, which would indeed take a lot of time.
While Doctor Yang was still examining the situation upstairs, the little brats in the lab on sublevel fifty-two were in trouble.
"Now these little rats are finally behaving," the Doctor said as he walked in, flanked by the White Genomorph and the Guardian. "Initiate the cloning program. Now we can plant a lot of spies in the Justice League."
"No way," Robin said quickly. "The Batcave is already crowded enough. There's no room for another person."
"Then we can just eliminate you," the Doctor said with a sinister smile, then he shouted at Yang Le.
"What are you waiting for? Quickly take Kr... the weapon back to the stasis pod."
"Doctor, I think we can let Superboy move around a bit," Yang Le said respectfully, lowering his head.
"He last woke up two weeks ago. To keep his body healthy, I think some exercise is necessary."
"Don't use your stupid brain to argue with me!" the Doctor shouted furiously, snatching the shield from the Guardian and slamming it hard on Yang Le's head.
This was beyond everyone's expectations. Superboy was still observing the Young Justice team. Hearing the sound of the wind, he turned around and saw the Doctor knocking Yang Le to the ground with the shield.
Superboy's eyes widened. He naturally overheard Yang Le and the Doctor's conversation with his super hearing. Although he was very grateful for Yang Le's consideration, he knew that Yang Le's argument was useless, so he planned to obediently return to the stasis pod after they finished arguing.
The Doctor had just put away the shield when Superboy stood in front of him, his eyes blazing as if he was about to shoot heat vision from them. Even though the Doctor knew he couldn't, he couldn't help but be startled.
