#884 - afterwards
By the time everything had settled, it was already morning. The Justice League's transport plane slowly ascended from the island of Saint Prisca in the morning light.
Two hundred and fourteen cultists were evenly distributed among four transport planes, each guarded by two to three members of the Justice League.
The members of the Young Justice League naturally had to return on their own because of their bio-ships. Batman made arrangements for them.
He required the team members who participated in this mission to return directly to Mount Justice. The League would conduct physical examinations on them, and after resting, there would be mission reports waiting for everyone.
These were all commonplace matters, not just for them as children, but also for the members of the Justice League who had to go through these steps after completing a mission.
The physical examination was to prevent anyone from suffering injuries not visible to the naked eye, including modern medical examinations provided by Cyborg and magical examinations provided by Zatanna's father, Giovanni.
Physical health was the top priority, so the members of the Young Justice League still dragged their tired bodies to complete the physical examinations before returning to their rooms to rest.
When Dick woke up, it was already evening. He didn't expect to sleep so long. When he arrived at the dining hall, he found that he was still one of the early risers.
Besides Habibi, there was no one else in the dining hall.
"You're awake." Habibi finished the last bit of food on his plate. "There's still some lasagna in the oven, I kept it warm because I didn't know when you guys would wake up."
"Lasagna?" Dick didn't walk towards the kitchen, but instead pulled out a chair and sat next to Habibi. "Eating something so heavy right after waking up?"
"Superhumans expend a lot of energy. This morning, Kid Flash had already eaten more than a dozen energy bars before falling asleep."
After Habibi explained, he got up and took the plate to the kitchen. Dick immediately got up and followed behind him, looking like he wanted to say something but hesitated.
"You look like you want to say something?" Habibi put the plate in the dishwasher, causing Dick, who was pretending to take lasagna out of the oven behind him, to stiffen.
"It's nothing, I just wanted to ask about what happened on the island before."
Dick asked as he bent down to scoop the lasagna onto his plate, pretending to be nonchalant.
The reason Dick asked this question was because Habibi had displayed mental abilities on Saint Prisca Island that were completely different from his usual strength.
According to the Justice League's tests and the data Habibi himself provided, his abilities shouldn't be stronger than Miss Martian's, but when holding the rear on the island, he controlled all the team members, including Miss Martian.
Although there was a suspicion of sneak attack, instantly defeating Miss Martian's mental defenses was not something an ordinary person could do.
In Dick's impression, the only ones who could do this were probably Martian Manhunter from the Justice League and Psimon, a supervillain. The remaining mental ability users on Earth shouldn't be able to do it.
Concealing one's abilities is fatal to a team, but Dick was grateful that Habibi revealed his strength because he wanted to protect the safety of his teammates.
"I already reported to Batman while you were sleeping." Habibi turned around, looking like he didn't want to say more.
"If you have any questions, you can ask him. I need time to rest now."
After saying that, Habibi turned and left the kitchen. Dick didn't stop him, he just stood in the kitchen and quickly finished the lasagna on his plate, threw the dishes into the dishwasher, and then walked towards the briefing room.
It was still the same briefing room. Dick knocked on the door and heard a familiar hoarse voice coming from it.
"Come in."
Dick pushed the door open and, as expected, saw Batman sitting in the chair. In front of him was a device that looked like a tablet, probably dealing with some important matters.
Seeing Dick walk in, Batman closed the tablet and gestured for Dick to sit opposite him. The latter walked to the chair and sat down obediently.
"Talk," Batman changed his sitting posture. He could finally relax a little in front of his own child.
Seeing this, Dick didn't delay. He had been working with Batman for a long time and lived together on weekdays, so he was used to it.
Dick cleared his throat and then clearly and concisely described what he knew about what happened on Saint Prisca Island.
Batman didn't interrupt in the middle, but listened quietly until Dick finished speaking before saying.
"Apart from what happened after Habibi was captured, what you said is almost exactly the same as what Habibi said."
"Speaking of Habibi, he showed strong mental abilities on Saint Prisca Island, even controlling all of us in a short period of time."
Dick brought up the question he couldn't get an answer to from Habibi again to Batman.
"I ran into him in the dining hall just now and asked him, but he didn't answer me, but instead told me to ask you."
Batman nodded and said, "Regarding this question, Habibi has already mentioned it to me. He has indeed been hiding his strength."
"Hiding his strength? Why?" Dick couldn't understand.
"Because of the Light." Batman said this organization that had been mentioned many times again. "Habibi revealed to me that the purpose of his creation was not to protect Conner, but to kill him."
"What?!" Dick was shocked. He didn't expect that the two people who usually called each other brothers actually had such a bloody relationship.
"But…"
"Habibi was created privately by Dr. Desmond. Although Desmond invented the Blockbuster formula, he was not valued in the Light. The purpose of the Light's high-level officials sending him to Cadmus Labs was actually to watch over Superboy."
"In Dr. Desmond's view, Superboy was just a boring clone, but the high-level officials of the Light believed that the value of this so-called thing was above him, so he wanted to invent a creature stronger than Kryptonians."
"This creature is the Genomorphs in Cadmus Labs. They are just failures and appendages of Desmond's ultimate creation. The only truly successful one is Habibi, the so-called Weapon O."
Batman swallowed and then continued, "Desmond succeeded, but he also failed, because he gave Habibi too high intelligence and growth time, so that Weapon O, which was originally supposed to be a weapon, had its own values."
"So the normally growing Weapon O rejected the mission of its creator and disguised itself as a failure."
