The Devil's Curse

Chapter 2:School Day

Ava Russell

"Zzzzz… ha ha ha, so much food, so much blood… All you peasants, I am the demon queen! Bow down before me!" murmured sleeping Ava.

"Ava! Ava Russell! Wake UP!"

"NO. MY FOOD. THEY'RE GONE! NO. MY WEAPONS ARE DISAPPEARING! GIVE IT ALL BACK!" Ava yelled.

"AVA RUSSELL, DETENTION FOR A MONTH! STARTING TODAY!" Mr. Caldarone yelled, his veins were popping out.

-The class snickered around her-

"Huh? What? What happened?" said Ava.

"I said detention!" Mr. Caldarone repeated.

Heather Wu

The lovely-delinquent-friend, Ava. She freaking threw a table at the teacher's face. I wondered many times why I'm still friends with her. But she did help me a lot before. Well, friends are friends. I can't change her, because I want her to be a certain way. Ah, speak of the devil, here she comes.

"Hey, Heather!" said my awesome (not) friend Ava.

"I don't want to believe that you did that." I said to Ava.

"Did what?" Ava replied.

As expected. My lovely dim-witted friend doesn't remember what she did in Science class. I guess she was sleeping again. "You grabbed a table, threw it, and it landed on the teacher's face!" I exclaimed.

"Oh. Whoops," Ava shrugged.

"Seriously. You are so much. You have a 176 IQ! Take your education seriously. You can get into a good college if you tried hard enough," I said.

"I'm gonna be the next mafia leader. Remind me why I should take my education seriously? All I need to do is learn to beat the shit out of my enemy and defend you," Ava laughed.

"I don't need your protection. I know how to fight too. Who's the person that stops you from going overboard? I need to thank her. Oh wait, it's me. And who ever said education isn't necessary. Who knows, you might encounter someone strong and need a plan to take them down," I replied.

"Bleh, " Ava replied. "We have English next, right?

"Whoa! You can actually memorize stuff. I'm sooooo proud of you," I retorted.

"SHUT UP!" Ava yelled, clearly annoyed. "Oh, and by the way, I'm skipping English. Tell Mr. Shitty that I'm skipping his stupid class. I'm going off to the alley again. Be back in 30."

"Fine. We're having a Social Studies test after English. If you aren't back before 10:15, I will go to the alley and drag your sorry butt back here," I replied.

"Fineeee. You're so mean," Ava sighed as she left.

I walked down the hallway as I was reviewing my notes for my Social Studies test. Shit! I forgot! I have a shift today after school at 3:00-5:30 for work. Will I get back home in time to cook dinner? Actually, I'll just tell lil' bro to cook dinner. I should visit Dad. I wonder how he's doing in the hospital? Hopefully, he's feeling better. I still need $3,000 to pay off Dad's bill. For each shift I earn $100. 50. But I also need to pay the billsh. Hahh. Should I work overtime? But we have a test tomorrow. I need to get a 100 on that. If it wasn't for that gold-digging bitch that married our dad, we wouldn't be in this situation. Agghhh! I stopped at the door and entered English class.

"Mr. Kollins, Ava isn't going to come today."

"Why?" Mr. Kollins asked.

"Ava got sick and had to go to the nurse," I replied. Hopefully he buys this stupid lie, I prayed.

"Yeah, right. Is she skipping class again? Her last excuse was that her vehicle broke down. After that, I saw her riding a perfectly fine motorcycle! Tell Ava if she misses another one of my classes, I will give her a month's detention! And tell her that education is important… blah, blah, blah…," Mr. Kollins blabbed.

I rolled my eyes. I honestly can see why Ava wants to skip this class. If I was a carefree soul like her, I most likely would skip this class too… but I need the scholarship.

"Class is starting! Everyone take your seats," Mr. Kollins shouted.

"Ughh," the class groaned.

"Don't groan at me! Hurry up, or I will give you all a week of detention!" Mr. Kollins yelled.

Ava Russell

"English class is so boring," I sighed. "Honestly, I would rather wear a frilly dress than go to English class." I walked down the street and turned into the narrow space. I sat down thinking about stuff. Scrittcchh, scrattcchh. I turned around to see what the sound was. A knife covered in blood. Shit. Is this an ambush!? I thought. I looked around to check to see if there were any weapons. I only found a crowbar. "Well, this'll have to do, I guess," I signed. Wow, worst luck ever. I stalked down the alleyway, but there was nobody there. Guess they escaped. I thought. I walked back and picked up the knife. I felt a shiver go up my spine. The knife started giving off a dark aura.
