The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#3186 - God's Soldier
In the sky, silver warhawks roared past, covering the battlefield. Their numbers were so vast that they resembled a massive dark cloud. A strike force of over a hundred Stormtalons acted like a giant scythe, raking the earth with ferocious firepower. Missile launchers hurled Hellfire missiles into the roaring ranks of Orks. Their trails wove a dense net in the sky, and seconds later, a rolling wave of fire erupted, engulfing all the Orks and their machines. Then, the Stormtalons' twin-linked assault cannons and twin-linked heavy bolters began to weave a carpet of destruction. Even the Orks' tough bodies were pulverized under such heavy fire.
While the Stormtalons were carrying out their slaughter, Stormhawks and Thunderhawks descended, opening their hatches.

"Undying Bravery!"
"Trample the Myriad!"
Silver soldiers with plasma jetpacks on their backs descended one after another. From the Thunderhawk's holds, massive Terminators jumped.
Watching all of this in astonishment, Karlis tried to calm himself and whispered:
"The Space Marines are here... That symbol, is it the Astral Knights?"
But he didn't notice that the huge beast hadn't died in the explosion. As it rose from the wreckage, it continued to stare at him, then revved its chainblade, the teeth slicing through the air, sending solidified blood flying. Then, it roared and charged towards the chaplain, raising the chainblade high above its head.
"Beast!"
The distance of dozens of meters vanished in an instant, but a roar interrupted the beast's rampage.
A warrior whose armor bore the number X descended from the sky. Upon landing, he leaned slightly to the left, his chainsword tangling with the opponent's chainblade.
The Ork Warboss was clearly startled by the sudden appearance of his opponent, especially since the other's strength could rival his own. But the Space Marine didn't hesitate. He kicked the Warboss in the groin, then swiftly bypassed the beast's defenses, desperately driving his chainsword into the unarmored side of the Warboss with all his might.
The spinning teeth tore through flesh, plunging straight into the beast's organs.
The creature roared in pain. It swung its weapon heavily, but the Space Marine blocked the wrist in mid-air with one hand, the immense force causing the power armor's joints to creak. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the chainsword was pushed and twisted deeper, as if to shred the beast's body.
Large chunks of internal organs sprayed from the edges of the chainsword, and beast blood splattered onto the silver-grey armor, staining it with a layer of filth.
Before long, the beast's head drooped, and the light in its dim yellow eyes faded.
Finally, it collapsed completely, its massive body crashing to the ground with a loud thud. The Space Marine stepped on the corpse and forcefully pulled out his sword. Heavy, rapid breathing seemed audible from behind his helmet. His left hand, which had just blocked the Ork's wrist, was twitching.
A few seconds later, he turned to look at Karlis, and spoke in a hearty voice.
"Hello, I am Gold, from the Astral Knights Tenth Company. Are you the chaplain in charge of this Guard regiment?"
Karlis nodded, his bionic eye flashing.
"Yes, I am Karlis, a second-level chaplain attached to the 0083rd Detachment."
"You can gather your troops and evacuate the area."
"Sergeant, the command from the Lords of Terra is to hold our ground."
The Astral Knight glanced at the hundred or so Guardsmen still standing around.
"You've suffered heavy casualties, you should retreat."
"Hold our ground, that is the command from the Lords of Terra."
"Uh..."
At that moment, another Astral Knight walked over and nudged Gold's shoulder.
"Why say so much? Did you forget what you learned in the Mechanicus courses? The Mechanicus employs a non-autonomous command mode. These low-level infantry units have almost no self-awareness; they are just pawns of the Lords of Terra. If he wants to stay here, let him stay. Let's go, didn't you hear the captain calling you? Oh, did you just kill an Ork Warboss? Remember to take off his big tusk; you can decorate your shoulder pad with it later."
"Actually, I'd rather decorate my helmet with it."
"Doesn't the uniform regulation state that any modification to the helmet's appearance is prohibited without the company commander's permission?"
As the two Space Marines turned around, the silent Karlis suddenly spoke:
"I have my own consciousness. This is obedience, our dedication to the Omnissiah."
Hearing his dry, mechanical voice, the two Space Marines stopped, and then Gold turned back and nodded slightly.
"We apologize for what we said earlier, Chaplain Karlis."
The Space Marine's apology stunned Karlis. He nodded as the other ignited his jetpack, brandishing his weapon and chasing after the fleeing Orks.
"The Astral Knights... unexpectedly polite."
As the Astral Knight reinforcements appeared on the planet's surface, the satellite Ikotomiya also welcomed its saviors.
Less than half an hour after the powerful fleet entered the battlefield, all the Ork warships were either destroyed or fled into the depths of space. Their burning desire for war was extinguished by the Randar's magnificent hull and ferocious firepower. Even the dumbest Orks knew what to do.
Then, the White Templars arrived on the satellite's surface in landing craft, sweeping through the invading Orks with overwhelming force. Arash, personally leading the Terminators, was invincible, wiping out the Orks controlling the satellite's main gun array in one fell swoop.
However, just as the Space Marines were reaping the Orks with cold efficiency, Sozshyan on the flagship received bad news from the Mechanicus.
The energy center deep beneath Ikotomiya had lost contact. If the Orks controlled it, they might take the most drastic action when cornered—destroying the energy center, causing the satellite's orbit to change, and possibly even crashing into the planet's surface.
If that happened, Arratimos might be completely doomed.
To prevent this, Sozshyan decided to take action himself.
"Boss, lots of tin cans are coming. 'Rip-Ya-Gut' and his boys are probably done for. What should we do?"
In the last chamber leading to the satellite's core reactor, hundreds of Orks were gathered, their faces painted blue. An Ork Warboss wearing a ridiculous black hat, missing a leg and using a blade as a replacement, was yelling at the mechanics trying to saw open the thick blast door. Hearing the incessant chatter from his bodyguard with a yellow crescent mark on his face, he turned around in anger, nearly smashing the bodyguard into the wall with a slap.
"Shut your squig-for-brains gnat-hole, you git! Are you asking for a slug up your backside?! I have eyes! I don't need you to be so bloody eager!"
