The Legendary Pseudo-villain
Chapter 100 - You Can Keep It Safe...
It was the first time in Hecathe's life that somebody had called him an idiot... And he could confidently say that he definitely didn't feel pleased with it.
Hecathe clicked his tongue as he glared at the girl and asked, "Then, do you want me to take the money back?"
The girl pursed her lips as she heard this and shook her head, "I'm not giving it back. You already gave it to me."
"..."
The girl chuckled as she looked at the man and reassured, "I was just kidding. I'm not going to steal it and run away. You can trust me."
Hecathe was still not trusting her but when she said this, he could feel that she was certainly not trying to trick him by lying so he decided to just let it go.
It wasn't like he cared that much about the money anyway so he really didn't care if she decided to steal it or not, however, although he didn't care about the money, he still cared about her ability and didn't want her to escape just like that.
"Sir, You can go and complete the mission that you have today. I won't want to further waste your time," The girl politely bowed her head and spoke with a smile.
Hecathe coughed as he heard this and nodded his head as he responded, "Then I'll be going."
The girl nodded and the two stood there staring at each other for a solid awkward moment.
"Are you going or not?" The girl tilted her head and asked as she broke the silence.
Hecathe chuckled as he heard this straightforward question that was certainly not said in a polite manner.
"I'm going," Hecathe turned around and walked away but stopped after a few steps as he looked back to see that the girl had already disappeared from the place.
"As expected..." He muttered under his breath as the man suddenly had a shocking understanding.
Moving cards was not the only thing she could do. She could transport herself as well and this would mean that she could transport people and almost anything in the world that could be picked up. Hecathe had already guessed her ability to be something like this and this was precisely the reason why he had decided to hire her.
Hecathe had a satisfied smile on his face as he saw that his guess had been correct and he turned around once again as he continued on his way.
Hecathe put his hand in his pocket as he walked down the street and when his fingers came in contact with the ring that he had previously kept away in his pocket, he suddenly remembered the old woman who was the original owner of this ring.
The man took out the ring and looked at it for a minute as if trying to understand what the ring was made up of. It was definitely not any cheap material and it didn't look common either.
If he wanted to guess, he would say that this was made up of something extremely rare.
Hecathe headed back to pay a visit to that old woman and returned the ring to her.
The woman was shocked and confused at first as she saw Hecathe returning with the ring, however, Hecathe didn't even need to explain the situation to her as the woman guessed it all on her own.
"It was that damn child, wasn't it?" The woman questioned with a disappointed sigh and Hecathe pursed his lips into a thin smile as he nodded his head.
"Should've known he'd be up to something," The old woman seemed to be blaming herself for this and it made Hecathe feel a little amused.
"Are you going to kick him out?" Hecathe asked curiously.
the old woman frowned as she heard this question and responded, "Why would I throw him out? He's my son."
"So you're planning on letting him stay?" Hecathe asked as he raised his eyebrows and this time he had a small frown on his face.
The woman didn't look to be too happy as she heard these questions, "Young lad, this is his house as well. How can I throw him out of his own house?"
Hecathe tilted his head as he heard this, "But he's not even your real son and after meeting him, I can say that he's not very grateful towards you either. He went as far as to gamble of something so important to you. How can you be sure that he won't try to gamble it off again?"
This old woman seemed to be a bit too naive.
"I have tried to correct him but his generation is not the same as mine. My husband could have taught him better if he were still here, however, I have no control over that boy. He does whatever he wants but he's my son and I can't simply just throw him away because of something like this," The woman spoke with a small chuckle that lacked any joy.
When Hecathe heard this, he couldn't help but feel as if she was kind and dumb at the same time. It was a really bad combination considering the fact that most of the people on this earth would prey on such people who were easy to fool.
"And Thank Ya," The woman added with a small smile that looked to be genuine, "For going out of yer way to bring this back for me. Ya are a kindhearted young man. I wish my son was also more like you."
"..."
Hecathe thought in his head that there was absolutely no way her son would ever become like him but of course, Hecathe would never say this to the woman.
"And yer right," The woman sighed as she looked down at the ring and spoke, "If ya leave it with me, that brat is going to steal it again and it would again end up in the gambling den. There's nothing I can do about it."
Hecathe frowned as he heard this. If he was in the woman's shoes at this moment then Hecathe was sure that he was going to kick out such an ungrateful child from home. That was clearly the best way to resolve the problem.
The old woman kissed the ring and suddenly took Hecathe's hand before placing the ring on his palm and closing his fingers around it, making him hold the ring as she spoke, "Ya should take care of it for me."
"..."
"I am unable to keep it safe but I'm sure ya would be able to," The woman looked up at Hecathe and spoke, her voice sounded a bit choked up as if she was forcing herself to not cry at this moment, "My days on this earth are limited now. I can feel it. I am soon going to leave and be reunited with him. So this ring... Ya can keep it."
Hecathe was speechless as he heard this and since he had never been in such a situation before, he had no idea how he was supposed to react.
Thankfully enough, the woman didn't look as if she was waiting for a response. She smiled and bowed her head as she thanked the man before she went back inside the house and closed the door without letting Hecathe say anything.
Hecathe stood there for a solid few minutes simply stared at the closed door.
As expected... This woman was really a lot like his own grandmother and this was perhaps the only reason why Hecathe wanted to retrieve this ring for her.
Hecathe sighed as he placed the ring back in his pocket and took out the file before deciding to head out to the next destination.

.
.
There were a lot of names on one page of the file alone and after meeting just five of them, Hecathe already felt tired enough to the point that he wanted to burn the book and throw it away.
However, Hecathe still tried to trick his mind and imagined that he was back in his real-world meeting clients.
When he thought like this, he indeed got a bit more energy to continue, however, it was still not enough.
Threatening people was really tiring.
However, he had to do it.
Hecathe had indeed done the job perfectly as Kelly had said. He was meeting all these people and was even noting down all their information and their answers.
According to all the information and answers that he had noted down, he was doing a perfect job, however, that was not all there was to it.
Hecathe wanted to make it look as if he was seriously doing a good job, but he was the least bit interested in catching the real person who spread the rumor.
The man was much more interested in further firing up the rumors and so, after he was done questioning them, the man would close the file and keep it aside before coming down to the real business which was to basically threaten them.
Hecathe clicked his tongue as he glared at the girl and asked, "Then, do you want me to take the money back?"
The girl pursed her lips as she heard this and shook her head, "I'm not giving it back. You already gave it to me."
