The Legendary Pseudo-villain
Chapter 99 - Flexibility Of A Plan
Hecathe was a bit surprised by the suddenness of this question but he eventually had a small satisfied smirk on his face as he quite liked her response.
"I never knew I would be saying this but you're a smart kid," Hecathe chuckled as he complimented the girl and the girl nodded her head as she readily accepted the compliment.
"I've been told that a lot."
"..."
Before Hecathe could say anything more, the food came and the girl carefully tucked the white envelop away as she got ready to eat.
As expected, it seemed that it had been a long time since the girl had a decent meal and this was probably the reason why she looked to be so thin.
"Thank you for the food, Sir!" The girl beamed as she didn't bother being reserved in front of Hecathe and ate the food without caring about table manners.
Hecathe chuckled as he saw this and responded, "Eat to your heart's content."
The girl happily nodded her head and did exactly like that.
When Hecathe looked at the girl, he couldn't help but be reminded of his pet Dorgon that was always eating like this.
If the Dorgon were to hear this then he would surely be pretty mad at the fact that Hecathe had referred to him as a pet and also because Hecathe had just compared him to a human.
They were both not interested in making small talks and since the girl was eating so peacefully, Hecathe didn't want to disturb her with the specifics of her job.
While the girl ate, Hecathe closed his eyes and leaned his head back on his chair since he didn't feel hungry and he took this time to think about what he was going to do further.
Hecathe had always been a person who would love to plan everything ahead of time. He would make sure that he was prepared for all scenarios and his plan was always made in a way that made it flexible since no matter how precisely a plan was made, there were still going to be some unexpected situations popping up out of nowhere.
If the flexibility of the plan was considered in the initial making of the plan, it would make everything easier when the unexpected situations and obstacles actually do appear.
Hecathe had already made a plan before he met this girl and now that he had found a girl with such a unique ability, he would naturally want to include her and use her in his plan. Of course, he would not be giving her any important job since he didn't trust her enough, however, he was still going to consider her as a person that would further become a security in case the plan did not work out as expected.
In short, she became the flexibility in the plan in case something unexpected occurred and obstructed the flow of the plan.
Of course, the girl had no idea what went on inside Hecathe's head and it seemed that the reason why she agreed to work with him was simply because of the money and Hecathe's identity as a member of the Golden Fire.
Ocasia was a city that didn't work under the three willows of spring nor did it work under the mecha-suits. It was an ancient city that followed a completely different type of governance. To be more exact, The guilds were the institutions that ran this city. They were the authority and so, being a member from one of the major guilds in the city was not a title that one would easily be able to attain.
The Golden fire indirectly gave Hecathe power and Hecathe was surely not going to be humble at all as he planned to fully make use of his title as an official member of the guild.
After they were done eating, Hecathe decided to head out to the location of the next person who was on the list that Kelly had given him. Although the man had told the girl that she was free for now and only needed to come to the guild the next day, the girl refused to leave him alone.
"I can't go back. I don't think I would be welcomed back home," The girl spoke as she pursed her lips and looked up at Hecathe with eyes that seemed to be trying to gain pity.
Hecathe was a bit confused at first as he heard this but he soon realized that he was probably the reason behind this situation.
She had already told her story and according to it, She lived with those two old gamblers. After having left with Hecathe, she had clearly indirectly betrayed them and just as she said, they were probably not going to be happy to see her going back.
"Then what do you plan to do?" Hecathe asked as his eyes narrowed down on the girl.
Her fingers seemed to be fiddling nervously with the hem of her cardigan as she spoke, "If it is not much trouble, would it be okay if I live together with you?"
Hecathe almost choked on empty air as he heard this. It was certainly the first time someone was saying such a thing to him.
"You want to live with me...?!" Hecathe's face cringed up as he asked, almost trying to check whether he had heard it right or not.
The girl nodded her head with an innocent bright smile on her face as she confirmed it, "If it's okay with you then I would be comfortable with that arrangement."
"..."
Hecathe took a minute to think about it before he questioned, "Do you have money?"
The girl shook her head as she honestly answered the man, "I came here empty-handed. I didn't even get paid for the day and those old bastards won quite a sum as well."
After having heard this, Hecathe could conclude that the girl was probably working for them on a daily wage basis. If she helped them cheat a lot of money out of someone, she would get a percentage of that money while the rest went to those two old bastards.
"You don't have any savings either?" Hecathe asked with a frown and the girl scoffed as she responded.
"How can I have savings when I hardly even have money to feed myself?"
"What about the money I just gave you?"
"..." The girl was silent as she heard this.
"You should have enough in that envelop," Hecathe added as he informed, "I'll give you the address to my apartment. It's cheap so go in and get yourself a room. There aren't many tenants so you'll be more than welcome and the landlady is also quite interesting."
The girl nodded her head with a bright smile on her face as she heard this and Hecathe took out a piece of paper and pen before he wrote down the address and gave it to the girl.
"You're not coming?" The girl asked as she curiously looked up at him.
Hecathe shook his head as he informed, "I still have work to do so I'll be late."
The girl glanced down at the file that was held by the man as she heard this and asked, "What are you working on?"
Hecathe pursed his lips into a thin line as he heard this question that he was clearly not going to answer.
Kelly had already told Hecathe to keep this mission a secret and although Hecathe didn't actually care about what she said, he still felt as if it would be best if people didn't know about this mission that was eventually going to backfire on the man that had ordered it.
"Do you think I'll be telling you?" Hecathe asked as he tilted his head and the girl clearly got the signal.
She nodded her head in understanding as she spoke, "Then I won't question."
Hecathe smiled as he heard this response that had pleased him.
"Then I just have to go to this address and wait for you, right?"
Hecathe nodded his head as he spoke, "Don't go inside my room. Wait in the lobby or something."
The girl frowned as a response, "Why not your room?"
"Because I don't trust you," Hecathe half-lied.
He indeed didn't trust the girl that much, however, this was not the reason why he was refusing to let her enter his room. The reason why he had warned her against it was because of his pet Dorgon that was probably waiting somewhere inside his room.
The girl would definitely not be happy to see the Dorgon and the Dorgon would naturally also hate to have another human being enter the room.
"And you trust me with the money?" The girl questioned as she pointed it out, "What if I take it and run away?"
Hecathe didn't know if he wanted to laugh or cry as he heard this.
He had certainly not considered the possibility of the girl taking the money and running away with it...
"You didn't even think that was a possibility?" The girl smirked as she questioned, looking to be a bit surprised, "Aren't you an idiot?"
"..."
"I never knew I would be saying this but you're a smart kid," Hecathe chuckled as he complimented the girl and the girl nodded her head as she readily accepted the compliment.
