The Second Empire of Azeroth
#85 - The Burning Legion Arrives
"Hellfire!"
A loud shout came from the direction of the Dark Portal, and the orcs quickly turned their heads, only to see the humans there frantically preparing their defenses.
What's going on?
Before the orcs could figure out what was happening, they felt the sky light up. Then they looked up and saw countless green meteors falling towards them.
The dire wolves sensed the danger and began to flee in all directions.
"Boom, boom, boom—"
The green meteors crashed to the ground, and gigantic hellfires crawled out of the craters, attacking the surrounding orcs. The orcs were powerless against these powerful siege machines and could only scatter and flee.
Grommash was astonished; it was the first time he had seen these powerful monsters. But after a moment of愣神, he immediately came to his senses and quickly waved his hand, "Retreat! Stay away from these monsters!"
Under the pursuit of the hellfires, the Warsong orcs quickly retreated back to Hellfire Citadel.
Grommash questioned Kargath, "Are these monsters also part of Teron Gorefiend's plan?"
"Of course not!" Kargath was also dumbfounded. "I haven't heard anything about monsters at all. Moreover, Teron Gorefiend is no longer important; what's important is how many monsters there are? Just the number we just saw is more than we can resist. I think we should summon the other clans and resist the invasion of these monsters together."
Grommash fell into deep thought. He wasn't very interested in Kargath's suggestion; instead, he was worried about whether monsters had appeared in Nagrand, where his son Garrosh was.
Kargath didn't know what Grommash was thinking, and he continued to try to persuade him: "Grommash, now is a critical moment for the orcs. As the clan with the most survivors, the Warsong clan must shoulder the burden of the Horde, and you must also bear the responsibility of Warchief."
Warchief?
Something called ambition stirred in Grommash's heart.
"Die, demon!"
Turalyon, holding a long sword condensed with Holy Light, chopped a hellfire into pieces. Compared to the orcs, the Alliance was much more adept at dealing with hellfires.
Under the protection of the Holy Light, paladins could kill hellfires as long as they weren't attacked. And there were the mages; although their spells were ineffective against hellfires, these experienced mages didn't cast spells directly on the hellfires. Instead, they used the physical attacks brought about by spells, such as using Levitate to move stones over the hellfires' heads and then canceling the spell, using the stones to smash the hellfires to death.
Soon, the ground was littered with fragments of hellfires, and their numbers continued to decrease.
Turalyon asked Khadgar with concern, "Why are there so many demons here? Could they have been summoned by some powerful warlock?"
"No spellcaster could summon so many hellfires!" Khadgar shook his head, looking worriedly at the sky. "I suspect that the rift is the reason for the hellfires' appearance."
"It's still a little late!"
Rohje looked at the rift in the sky and sighed.
Ner'zhul held the ritual in a hurry, so he didn't open too many Dark Portals. After Rohje closed the Dark Portal in the Black Temple, Khadgar timely blew up the Dark Portal on the Hellfire Peninsula, which saved Draenor's shattered fate. But it still caused great damage to Draenor, opening a rift to the Twisting Nether in the sky.
It was possible that a group of hellfires happened to be near the rift, discovered Draenor, and wanted to come over and destroy it.
Because the rift was far from Shadowmoon Valley, not many hellfires reached Shadowmoon Valley. But it still caused damage to Shadowmoon Valley, and Dalaran's army encountered hellfire attacks.
However, Rohje didn't have time to help Dalaran; he just had the dragonhawk riders abandon the attack and brought them to the rooftop to collect naaru shards. Afterward, he began to study the Book of Medivh and the Scepter of Sargeras, not even having time to deal with the orcs inside the Black Temple.
He had to find the locations of the other Dark Portals and then close them. The appearance of the hellfires gave him a bad feeling. If these hellfires transmitted information about Draenor to the Burning Legion, would the Burning Legion launch a full-scale invasion?
In historical events, after Draenor shattered, the Burning Legion launched a full-scale invasion here, and the abyss lord Magtheridon occupied Hellfire Citadel, ruling the entire Outland.
Wait, Rohje suddenly thought of Kil'jaeden's seduction of Gul'dan.
The Burning Legion had long obtained the coordinates of Draenor, only sending an army after Draenor shattered. So, if the Burning Legion had been preparing to attack Draenor, it was just that the journey was too far and they hadn't arrived yet. Ner'zhul opening the Dark Portal was just giving the Burning Legion a shortcut!
And now, the Dark Portal had also opened a shortcut for the Burning Legion, so the Burning Legion's attack on Draenor was inevitable.
Arcane magic surrounded Rohje, and the Book of Medivh constantly flipped, as he searched for everything recorded inside about the Dark Portal. Under the blessing of grandmaster-level arcane wisdom, Rohje constantly absorbed the knowledge recorded in the Book of Medivh. Soon, he waved the Scepter of Sargeras and began to explore.
Arcane magic formed a map of Draenor in front of him, and several rotating vortices appeared on the map; these were the Dark Portals.
The result was that a large number of demons were entering this world through each Dark Portal. They quickly occupied the area around the Dark Portals and used the surrounding resources to build frameworks for these Dark Portals. Obviously, they wanted to use these Dark Portals for a long time until they destroyed this world.
After finding the answer, Rohje dismissed the arcane map.
He summoned the dragonhawk riders, collected the naaru shards, and then led them down the platform and into the interior of the Black Temple. Before the Dark Portal returning to Azeroth was rebuilt, he could only stay in Draenor. Therefore, he had to find a territory for himself. The Black Temple was built on a leyline node of Draenor, making it a very good place to settle down.
However, before that, he needed to eliminate the orcs here, dispel the shadow energy, and transform it.
The Shadowmoon orcs had already realized that Teron Gorefiend and Ner'zhul had abandoned them, and they all felt very desperate. In desperation, they wanted to perish together with Rohje, but none of them could get close to Rohje, and they all fell under Rohje's spells.
