The Unsurpassed Maiden

"F-Friends?" Mi Young asks, shocked evident in her face and in her voice.

Zhong Yun seems to take this in another way because the next second his facial expression suddenly changed from joyful to depressed. "Why? Don't?? you want to be friends with me?"

The black haired girl quickly waves her hands again to deny the other party's accusations. "No! Zhong Yu-ssi. I just feel like I am not worthy to be called as your f-friend."

Zhong Yu lets out a huge boyish grin, "Don't worry, silly. Anyone who I call a friend is worthy of being my friend. Only a few people are entitled to that."

"F-Few?"

The legendary person nodded his head at her. "Uhn. Maybe once in every hundred years? Or was it a thousand?"

"Hundred? Thousand?"

"I can't seem to recall the last time I made friends." The man says while thinking hard. Then, he let go of the idea and gave the black haired student another boyish grin, "Anyway, now that we're friends I would like to know your name."

"M-My name is Kang Mi Young! N-Nice to meet you Zhong Yu-ssi!" The young girl announces while giving the other party a full bow.

This seemed to be a great choice because the man's smile widened even more. "Ah Kang Mi Young. I have come to the right person then."

"Right person?" The student questions, eyes full of confusion.

Zhong Yu nodded his head at the girl before crossing his arms once more, and then with pride he said, "Uhn. The Great Sage asked me to come and aid a maiden named Kang Mi Young. I honestly do not know who the old man was talking about but when I was on a mission to look for this Kang Mi Young I suddenly felt this immense dark aura, which is why I instantly flew towards where you were earlier. I was right on time before that dark witch could have corrupted you."

"Dark witch?"

"Uhn. Faceless spirits like that are dark witches which are controlled by the mother dark witch. It's one of her most powerful minions. That's probably why you were almost possessed by that dark witch earlier. That thing was completely soaked in dark magic." Zhong Yu replied with a grim face. "I don't know what it was doing here but I know for sure that the old man was right."

Mi Young looks up at the other party with confused eyes. "What? What did the Great Sage tell you?"

Zhong Yu returned the young girl's gaze as he answered her questions, "That things are beyond controllable here in the human realm."

"So the Great Sage is well aware of everything that is happening here?" The black haired girl asked. Then a thought came into her mind. It made her feel angry at the Great Sage, "If he knows what's happening here then why did he let those people kill these innocent humans and beasts? Why would he let something as dark and evil like them cause trouble in our land? He's the Great Sage, right? He knows how to deal with them then!"

Despite the black haired girl's rant, Zhong Yu remained calm. He even had a small smile playing on his lips as he answered the young girl, "Mi Young, even if the Great Sage is the most powerful Mage in our time, he still doesn't have the power to mess with destiny."

"You call that destiny? You mean it's the destiny of those people and beasts?! There were children! Innocent children who never had the chance to enjoy their youth because they were immediately abducted and experimented with! And you call that destiny?!?" The black haired girl couldn't stop herself anymore as she started shouting at the man in front of her, completely forgetting that she was speaking to one of the most powerful beings in the whole Mage history. "F*ck destiny! If the Great Sage wouldn't come and help us here then he is no better than those evil Mages who did those wrongful things to those innocent lives!"

When the black haired girl was done, that's when she realized the awful expression of the other party. Her heart immediately started beating so fast the moment she realized her own words. Mi Young wanted to apologize instantly but then she remembered the lives that were taken from those innocent people, and that was enough to fuel her anger and pride.

The two of them didn't say a word after that. The only thing that can be heard is the constant whistling of the non-existent wind around them.

It was after about two or three minutes that Zhong Yu finally chose to speak.

"Trust me, I know everything you feel. I used to hate destiny myself. Back then, I really didn't want to be the heir who will have to continue our legacy." Zhong Yu started while he looked at the skies above them. "I also blamed the Great Sage that time as to why he let destiny choose me. That's why I ran away from my home and went to seek him even though I knew it was impossible because no one really knows where the Great Sage was. However, I was so determined that I totally forgot about my clan."

Mi Young instantly bite her lower lip when she hears what the other party was saying. Of course she knew what happened after Zhong Yu left, and it wasn't a really nice story.

"My clan was wiped out. My brother and my friends were in hiding, afraid that the enemies would find them and kill them all. I never imagined my friend would resort to hiding because I personally knew how strong the six of us were. However, I realized that no matter how strong a being is, there is always someone far stronger than him." Zhong Yu continued while still eyeing the ceiling above them. "And that person would be the one who would teach them what true power is."

The black haired girl remained silent after that. She didn't know what to say so she just kept her mouth shut.

"So, after I went back to my hometown after thousands of years, I realized how stupid my action was. Then I started to see the Great Sage again. However, at that time, my purpose was entirely different." Zhong Yu continued. Then, he moves his gaze from the ceiling and down to the black haired girl in front of him. "I sought out for the Great Sage but never found him. Instead, he was the one who found me. I even remembered getting angry at him because why didn't he come to me the moment he knew that I was looking for him. The only thing I got from him was a chuckle. Then, I asked him why everything went like that. Why destiny chose me to be the heir of our bloodline? Why was my entire clan wiped out? Why were those innocent people killed?"

Zhong Yu stops for a moment before he starts to say his next words, "The only thing he said was that he doesn't have the power to trample and mess with destiny. That no matter how powerful everyone thinks he is, there are still some forces out there much more powerful than him. And that is time. You know it was kind of ironic since me and my friends have already mastered Time Magic that time. But then, the Great Sage said that even though we have already mastered time, it will always find its way to make things the way it's supposed to be."

"So, Kang Mi Young, even though the Great Sage knows what's going on out here. He chose not to meddle with it because he knows someone else is destined to stop the darkness spreading out here." Zhong Yu says with a small smile. "And that person is you. Me and the others? Psh. We're just here to help you and teach you some lessons. You're the destined one. The one who promised all those souls that you would get revenge for them. If the Great Sage thinks that it's too big for you to handle, then he will come and help you. Trust me, that old man might be lazy but he definitely knows how to choose the right timing. Because for him???timing is everything."

"You mean to say that it's not because of Kwang Soo's reckless idea that I was trapped here?" The black haired girl asks with rounded eyes.

The legend in front of her chuckled while shaking his head. "No. It was written on your destiny. So stop blaming anyone and face your destiny like a brave soldier. You're the one in charge, let that sink in. If the Great Sage thinks you can handle it then you can handle it. He knows your power the moment he first laid his eyes on you. So no more blaming anyone, okay?"

The black haired girl scratched her head and sheepishly smiled at the other party.. With a small shy smile, Mi Young says, "No more blaming anyone."
