The Unsurpassed Maiden

Chapter 78 - 78 - The City That Floats

Mi Young knew she was spinning. If it's not her body then it's her surroundings. For a few minutes, the black haired girl thought she was going to vomit any second because everything around her is making her feel nauseous.

However, a soon as she was about to shout that she was going to vomit, the world stopped spinning. When the young girl opened her eyes, (she didn't notice she closed them), they weren't standing on the hill where the lone maple tree was. Instead, they are standing on a deserted field with nothing but millions of lilies surrounding them.

"Woah." Mi Young whispers as she scans their surroundings. The scent and the view of the pretty flowers made her forget about almost throwing up.

"Where are we?" Kwang Soo whispers beside Mi Young.

"You two are not supposed to know. But we're outside the academy." Lady Ning Gwang says as if she's not breaking any rules made by the school.

"O-Outside?" Kwang Soo asks. "If the heads would find out that we went outside the academy they would surely kick us out."

"Why? Are you afraid of being expelled? I thought you love fighting because you want to be expelled? Or are you just doing it on purpose so your mother and father notices you?" Lady Ning Gwang teases with a smirk.

This made the boy fume in anger as he stomped his feet on the ground. "Shut up! I just love fighting!"

"Uh huh." Lady Ning Gwang answers. But it's obvious that she doesn't believe what the other party was saying.

Kwang Soo crosses his arms as he looks at Lady Ning Gwang with an irritated expression. "Where are we exactly? I can't see anything but lilies."

The white haired teacher rolls her eyes at her students before she points at something above them. "Lesson 78 for the two of you. If you can't find anything around you, learn to look up."

Both of the students turned their heads above them, where their teacher was pointing at.

That's where the both of them saw the huge piece of earth floating just right above them.

"Holy sh*t! I thought it was just a legend." Kwang Soo says as he eyes the floating thing above them.

"What the hell is that?" Mi Young whispers. She couldn't help herself but gawked at the huge rock.

Lady Ning Gwang smiles at her. "Right, you're still a first year so you still probably didn't have the lessons about the cities inside the Magic Kingdom."

Mi Young slowly turned her gaze away from the floating thing above them and towards her teacher who was still smiling at her. "Is that what I think it is?"

"Uhn." Lady Ning Gwang said with a nod. "That's the City of Furotingu. That's where my cousin is staying for now."

"How far are we from the academy?"

"We're at the West side of the Mage Kingdom." Lady Ning Gwang says. "So we're basically in the territory of the Geo users."

"So you mean to say it's their ability that's keeping this huge piece of rock floating?"

"Uhn. Quite amazing right? They say that only those Geo users who live here can manage to make Geo forms float." Lady Ning Gwang says. Then she leans closer to Mi Young to whisper, "They said that the people of Furotingu are using some secret Geo technique that only those inside this piece of rock know of."

Mi Young makes an 'o' shape with her mouth. Then, she remembered something. "Earlier, this guy here, mentioned that he thought this place was just a myth, what does he mean by that?"

"I will try to ignore the fact that you just called me 'this guy here' because I'm in high spirits knowing that one of the places I wanted to go truly exists. Anyway, let me do the talking." Lee Kwang Soo gave Mi Young one last pointed look before he started explaining the history of the place. "A long time ago, before Tartarus attacked our nation, the City of Furotingu wasn't like this. They said that it was just like some other cities that dwelt below the heavens. The only thing that keeps the City of Furotingu different from other Geo cities, is because of its huge walls. It was really huge to the point that it seemed to reach the sky. The reason why they put up huge walls like that was because their city was surrounded of hundreds of  savage beasts."

"Savage beasts inside the kingdom?" Mi Young asks.

"Uhn. You see that mountain top there?" Kwang Soo pointed at the huge mountain ahead of them that she didn't notice before. Mi Young nodded while looking at where Kwang Soo was pointing. "That's the land where other cities are located. The City of Furotingu is located near the Far West, which is very close to the Land Beyond Men to be honest. That is why there are a lot of savage beasts dwelling in here sometimes. The other reason why others say that this city is just a myth is because there aren't many outsiders who have visited this city. Those who dared, the ones who really did visit the city, were the braver ones who ventured through this huge space between the other Geo towns and the City of Furotingu."

"So, you mean to say that this city is actually a living legend? But why is it floating now?"

"If you let me finish my story then you'll know." The senior says as he crosses his arms and rolls his eyes at Mi Young. The black haired girl copied his action but apologized right after. "Anyway, because of the attacks of the savage beasts along with Tartarus, the citizens were forced to learn a hidden technique that is only known by the highest lord of the city. She told them to learn this hidden technique and they will be spared. So during the attack of Tartarus, they gathered at the heart of the city and everyone of them, mothers, fathers, even children, executed this secret technique, and together, they made their city float high above, and away from the reach of many savage beasts."

"But Tartarus was so big, he can reach it right?"

"Uhn. But then Tartarus was a savage beast with a mind of its own. He knows that the City of Furotingu isn't what he is after so when he saw it float, he didn't bother destroying it anymore. That's where the other myth surfaced."

"What other myth?"

Kwang Soo looked at Mi Young before sighing. "That Tartarus' attacks were just a challenge by the First Great Stage to our kingdom to see if we can still learn how to unite and fight together in times of difficulty. But don't think about it that much since it's not true anyway. Because if it is, then I will loathe the First Great Sage for sacrificing the many lives of the people who died during Tartarus' attack."

Mi Young looked at the senior who was now looking at the ground with so much hatred. If she was the ground, she would surely crumble with how intense Kwang Soo's look was. Aside from that, the young girl also couldn't help but notice how he said his last sentence in a whisper but it was filled with deep passion and hatred as well.

The black haired girl wondered how much pain this man went through to contain that much hatred in his heart.

"And that is why, up until now, a lot of people still believe that the City of Furotingu is just a mere legend because they have never seen it with their own eyes." The voice of Lady Ning Gwang suddenly rings inside the two student's ears, making them snap out from their deep thoughts. She leans towards Mi Young while ruffling her hair. She did the same towards the other student, who glared at her for messing up his hairstyle. "But of course, to those people who are able to go here, this city is much of a wonder and reality."

Mi Young and Kwang Soo followed Lady Ning Gwang's gaze as they all looked up at the huge city floating just right above them.

The black haired girl, despite knowing the city's past and history, still couldn't believe what she was seeing was real. Just making a huge piece of rock float takes a lot of mana, Mi Young wonders how they can keep it floating for millions of years.

"If you're wondering how they are keeping it floating for thousands of years, no one knows why. They say that it's because they have a secret battle technique that keeps on giving them mana as long as they keep their unity and their love for each other. And the other reason…." Mi Young noticed how Kwang Soo clenches his fist on his side before he continued his sentence, "….is that they have a mana producing device that gives them unlimited mana to use."

"Is there such thing as that?" Mi Young questions, she notes how her voice changes as well. She doesn't know if it was amazement or fear, or the two mixed together.

"I don't know. That's the reason why I badly want to go to this city so I can know for myself. With that much mana…I'm sure we will be able to stop any kind of huge attacks." Kwang Soo says, face looking grim and serious.

"But Tartarus is sealed and he's not coming back…I think?"

Kwang Soo then turns his gaze towards Mi Young. "We'll never know."

The words that left her senior's mouth made Mi Young shiver. She doesn't know if he was being serious or just being rational. Now that she thinks about it, they don't know when Tartarus will come back knowing that he wasn't dead at all but just sealed.

But Mi Young knows for sure that when the Celestial ranked savage beast comes back, he will be a lot angrier than before.
