The Vampire's Bride
Chapter 59 - Sealed Powers
Udine's chains continued to bind Mallory as it enhanced. Mallory, on the other hand, just silently comprehend her situation. She knew there would be people who would not like her. Mallory did not bother explaining that she wasn't a half-human, half-vampire person. Since Leo did not explain, Mallory did not feel the need to as well. Besides, Mallory perfectly understood how important it is to know when words would reach and when it wouldn't.
Mallory wasn't like her grandfather nor like Jillion who could see the structure of the chains and destroy them. The only option Mallory could think of was to break them by force. But could she do it?
During the past weekend, Mallory spent time with her grandfather. It was there and then did Mallory learned how her existence in the family was as mysterious as her half blood.
"Lory, it seems like my son hurt you too much... when I checked your well-being, I noticed something really weird. Did your father placed a lock on your powers?"
Mallory could not understand what her grandfather was trying to say. She was abused by her family to the point that she could not differentiate their actions and was mentally hurt. It took Grandfather Dan a lot of patience as he carefully explained what he felt.
Mallory's half identity itself was already unique. Ever since Grandfather Dan saw Mallory as a baby, he knew her wolf identity will bring a lot of pain as she grows. Grandfather Dan was never a perfect man. He also had times he neglected his children but never did he think of going back to the past to change his actions. He did regret it but he never thought of changing. If his wife would be the gentle parent, Grandfather Dan decided to be the strict parent. Of course, this wasn't the cause of Mallory's father's twisted mind. Mallory's presence in Grandfather Dan's life was similar to his wife – someone precious to him. Grandfather Dan decided to do his best to protect and help Mallory. This was what made Grandfather Dan searched for reasons as to why Mallory was born with a half identity. If she was a human, he wouldn't be surprised as their ancestors consisted of a few human blood. But for Mallory to be a wolf... Grandfather Dan could only think of two possible reasons: There was someone with a wolf blood in their ancestors or Mallory... was not his granddaughter.
Perhaps this was one of the reasons why Odin and his wife and daughters hated Mallory. Why did a nobody with a disgusting wolf blood suddenly stole the attention of the Grandfather Dan? The fact that Mallory could be a stranger to the family... anyone would hate such a situation. Still, Mallory truly believed they were family therefore Grandfather Dan can't just tell Mallory his suspicions. Having a wolf blood was dangerous for vampires. He had always wondered why Mallory always seemed weak every time he visited his granddaughter. Now that he truly checked on Mallory's situation, Grandfather Dan found the answer. "Lory, your father sealed your powers away."
"My powers?" Mallory could not really believe it. She could use a bit of spells here and there but never did she thought that she actually had power. To be exact, she could barely remember having such a large amount of powers. When she was young, her powers were still growing so it made sense she never thought that her powers were weak even as she grew old. According to her grandfather, it seemed like Mallory's powers were tightly sealed by Odin. "Then... am I dangerous?"
That was the only reason Mallory could think of. Was she so dangerous to the point that her powers were sealed?
"You can be dangerous, Mallory," Grandfather Dan honestly answered. He wasn't gonna babysit his granddaughter all the time. The order of things may be wrong as she had already experienced something worse but Grandfather Dan planned to properly teach Mallory of the survival in the dangerous world they live in. "That's why you should learn to control it."
"But Grandfather, I... I don't know how to use my powers and it's sealed. How would I even use it?"
"Who do you think I am?" Grandfather Dan looked smug. "I'm called Gin for a reason, Lory. Just trust me."
Trust... that was something Leo taught Mallory. Mallory wanted to place her whole trust on her grandfather who protected her and thought of her. She could not help but feel warm as she smiled brightly in response. "Yes, Grandfather!"
True to his words, Grandfather Dan removed the seal on Mallory's powers but just in case, Grandfather Dan placed a limit. Her sealed powers could overwhelm her and Mallory might lose control. To prevent this, Grandfather Dan decided to place a limit. Unless Mallory was in a dangerous situation, using more than the limit can hurt Mallory internally. Though he hated to hurt his granddaughter, this was needed to stop Mallory in case she loses control. "Listen Lory, never used more than the limit. You won't be alone since you're already that bastard's fiancée. Despite their awful attitudes, you can surely trust them."
10 percent... Although that wasn't the limit her grandfather set, it was only ten percent that Mallory could properly control her strength. Though it may seem small figure, the amount of power Mallory gained was not small.
"You... You're a halfling, aren't you? Why the hell do you have a monstrous amount of energy?" Udine nervously asked, breaking Mallory's trance.
Facing another set of chains, Mallory suddenly remembered her father. Unlike Odin's chains, Udine's were more childish. Perhaps it was because Udine never hated Mallory. She just hated her half-blood. Mallory cautiously used her new strength as she slowly broke the chains one by one. "I never knew either. It was my grandfather who told me about it."
Leo could not help but smirk. It seems like his fiancée still had something in her sleeves. If she indeed have a lot of reserved power, Leo could finally understand why Mallory never seemed tired whenever he drank her blood. If such a huge amount of power stayed inside the body without ever letting it out, it would obviously take a toll on the person's body. Thanks to Leo's appetite when it comes to Mallory's blood and Odin's seal, Mallory did not reach the point where she was in great danger because of the locked up power.
"Darling," Leo called, "Don't get hurt." Leo trusted Mallory but the moment Udine hurt her, Leo would surely return the pain ten times bigger.
"You!" Udine felt like vomiting. She's been using her energy to keep Mallory still but Mallory had already destroyed more than half the chains. Without another thought, Udine decided to stop being gentle and attacked Mallory as she modified the chains to have sharper ends. "Just quietly give up!"
"No." Mallory did not need to raise her voice. She just calmly dodged and parried the chains attacking her. The whole class was now attentively watching the fight. A new girl was actually on par with Udine. Not just on par but she was actually overpowering Udine!
"Brother," Jillion could not help but tremble, "Are you sure this is still the same Mallory? What the hell happened after me and Aldo left?"
"Who knows," Leo did not even know the conversation between Mallory and Grandfather Dan. Still, Leo was proud of Mallory. "She's still cute."
Cute?! If it was the previous Mallory, I could understand but... this woman who is currently about to make the stern Udine cry is cute to you?! Young Master Orpheus, what the hell happened?!
Jillion could not help but want to cry. The principal had told him specifically to help Mallory avoid any troubles but if Mallory was solving the problem with force, what should he do?
"Jill, the moment those onlookers begun to move, restrain them. If you cannot, tell me." Leo could feel the gazes of their classmates on Mallory. Whether they were curious or interested, none of those mattered to Leo. Anyone who begun to have hidden intentions towards Mallory, whether good or bad, would face Leo first.
"Well, if I were to predict... Eunice Imrie seems weirdly silent now. Usually she would stop them but... it seems like she plans to test Mallory before stopping the fight. What will you do if that happens?" Jillion asked.
Leo did not bother to remove his gaze from Mallory. He evilly smirked as he crossed his arms. "Do you need to ask? If my fiancee wants to do something then I will not stand on her way. If she wants to beat up someone, I'll give her the opportunity. If anyone dares to stop her, I'll obviously beat them up. No matter their name or position, if they dare to interrupt Mallory, I will not hesitate."
Ah, yes, yes. Mr. newly-engaged-man. This single friend of yours could clearly understand how you just want to keep on talking about your fiancee.
"What do you think, Jill?" Leo turned to Jillion and innocently asked, "What else would you think I would do?"
...F*ck. Just you wait. I'll get a lover as soon as possible and destroy this single label!
