The Vampire's Bride
Chapter 62 - A Minute
Mallory gave a short explanation. She mentioned how, at a few books, the authors mentioned how they felt pain and took longer to actually master their powers. Intrigued by the possibility that each and every nonhuman species may master powers at different ways, Mallory clearly remembered reading different books that have nothing in common with any of her family members' powers. That's when she noticed that the traditional method of practicing, would only work properly depending on the power of the person.
Elias could not help but smile at the thought of the number of books the girl must have read to come up to such a conclusion all by herself. "That's correct. The traditional method of receiving someone's help to have a better magic flow can indeed help us but not everyone. There are some powers that have weaker flow so even if there's an outside force to help, it would amount to nothing. Though this method is still useful in this time, there are a lot of better ways to master one's powers. Some vampires have realized this quite late in the game. We're still struggling on identifying what's the best method to practice. And that would be the focus of my class."
"To find out the best method to practice?"
"Find out the method?" Elias burst into a fit of laughter. "No, no, Mallory, that's not it."
"?"
"As I've mentioned before, I will be your teacher when it comes to this class. The principal won't put a nobody in charge of specialized class." Elias got the book and stood by the board. "To put it simply, my special skill is called Analyzer. It's a great help to identify what method would be best to use to master one's magic. It's also thanks to my skill that I could somehow understand why you overpowered Udine. I'd have to say, good job controlling your power."
"Sir?!" Udine was surprised. "What does a half-human vampire got that is strong enough to overpower me?"
"Udine Lee. Still don't get it?" Elias felt pity. He once thought Udine was one of his top students because of her growth but... it seems like he needs to rethink his methods of teaching. "Mallory Klein, may I ask a question?"
"Yes, Sir?"
Seeing how Mallory just sat, Elias realized his intentions did not go through, "It's quite personal so please stand here."
Mallory obediently followed. As she stood in front of Elias, she saw a shadow hovering over her. Looking back, she saw Leo. "What?"
Elias could not help but raise an eyebrow. There was one animal Elias could think of as he watched Leo: A dog.
Elias made a small soundproof barrier. "Mallory Klein, are you hiding the fact that you're not human?"
Mallory widened her eyes in surprise. Then again, with his Analyzer, Mallory realized he would have no trouble recognizing her second identity. Shaking her head, Mallory explained what happened, "I never hid it, Sir. Lee just did not ask me if I am a human. She just asked if I am a halfling and concluded I am a human."
"I see... So she's completely at fault. Okay, understood." Elias' barrier disappeared. Unlike Leo, Elias could only hold a small soundproof barrier for a short moment.
As Mallory and Leo return to their seats, Elias confirmed once more, "Then it would be fine to tell them, Mallory?"
"Yes, Sir."
Elias looked at the class and asked them, "Who here thinks Mallory is a human?" All of them, except Mallory, Leo and Jillion raised their hands.
As expected. "Who thinks she's a vampire?"
"Seems like everyone is in for a surprise." Elias had honestly thought the new student would be someone ordinary. Never did he thought he'd see a wolf blood in a vampire's veins. He could empathize with the students. Just as what Mallory had thought, there were not much vampires who knew the smell of wolves. "Mallory Klein is indeed a vampire and a halfling but she is not a human. Remember this."
"Not a human?" Everyone was confused. Was that why she overpowered Udine?
"Sir, I don't think so," Udine spoke. "I caught the scent of human blood from her, Sir."
"Still don't believe me even with my Analyzer?" Elias knew Udine was a prideful vampire but if she continues to reject Mallory, she'll never continue to pass the wall she's currently at with the method Elias gave her. Just as mentioned before, Udine had a rather continuous and fast-paced growth thanks to Elias' teachings. Recently, she was stuck. Elias noticed this and found another method to help her but seeing her previous progress with the method she uses, Udine did not want to change as she felt afraid she'll lose and grow weaker.
Perhaps with the help of Mallory, Udine can be more open-minded. With this trail of thoughts, Elias suggested to take an oath. "Since you won't believe my skill, I'm sure you will believe the Blood of Oath."
The Blood of Oath. This was a type of oath that can range from a normal oath to a deadly one. Depending on the weight of the oath and the contents, one can die. At this situation, Elias had to weight his words. As he offered his blood, the conditions were set. If he were to say a lie, he would lose quite a handsome amount of blood. Not too much to die but it would be painful for him.
A magic circle appeared on Elias' palm. He won't be able to say a lie within the time period that was set to a minute. Showing the circle, Elias smiled, "Shall I start?"
Mallory Klein is a half-wolf.
Elias took a deep breath. He had in his mind what he should say. He opened his mouth, about to explain, when he suddenly felt a crushing pain in his c.h.e.s.t.
"Sir Elias? What's wrong?" Everyone was waiting. It was not like Elias to run away from a Blood of Oath that he made.
"I'm fine." Elias composed himself once more. Whatever it was he felt there, Elias knew it was a warning. Cold sweat slid down his back. He opened his mouth once more to try again, "Mallory Klein is..." He hesitantly paused. "She's a wolf."
"A wolf?" Udine and the rest looked at Mallory. Such a fragile girl is a wolf? Obviously they did not believe it but the Blood of Oath was always true.
"Then she's not a vampire?"
"She's also a vampire." Elias felt better after saying what he wanted. Looking at Mallory, he requested, "Can you show some proof?"
"Proof?" Mallory tilted her head as she thought of a way. Her grandfather did tell her that she can control her ears and tails more comfortably now but she never really tried it in front of others. "I'll try..."
Mallory closed her eyes. How did she make them appear again? She tried imagining the feeling of having ears on top of her head. She tried imagining the way she looked. Uncomfortable with the pairs of eyes staring at her, Mallory did her best to show some "proof",
"Poof!"
Within a few seconds, her ears popped out. Everyone was startled, including herself, as she reached out to touch them. "Is this fine?"
"Yes, that's fine." Elias also reached out to touch the wolf ears when he felt a sharp pain on his hand.
"Please, Sir. She's my fiancée." The do— fiancé was guarding Mallory from pesky hands. "This is real. You can trust me and repeat my words to prove with your oath, Sir."
This guard dog... Elias felt a vein popping. He tried his best to ignore Leo's attitude and repeated his words. "The ears are real and are from her wolf identity." The oath did not react. Elias could not help but wonder what he caused the crushing pain he felt earlier. It was obviously not from the oath but he did not have a single clue as to what happened earlier.
With that, a minute had passed and the students were speechless. A vampire-wolf... that was the first time they've seen one! No one dared to question Mallory anymore especially not when she was supported by Elias' Blood of Oath. Jillion looked at Udine who had an ugly face. With a smirk, he wanted to ask the prideful Udine Lee a question —
Still think the student scouted by the principal, himself with the help of Leo, and the future Young Madam of Orpheus is unworthy to join the Night Class?
