The Vampire's Bride
Chapter 61 - Elias Williams
Everyone behaved after Leo brought Mallory to her seat. The students continued to do what they usually do. Eunice was asleep. Udine tried to focus to beat Justin. The twins were busy with their phones. Jillion was busy with a side job while Leo stared at Mallory. It was only Mallory who seemed like a normal student with her notebooks and books out. Everyone seemed normal. All except one student – Justin.
Unlike other classes, whenever a teacher entered, the students in the Night Class did nothing. The teacher did not introduce themselves, greet the students, nor asked who the new student was. They just started teaching. Thanks to Leo's advice, Mallory tried her best not to be surprised. Seeing how complacent everyone else were, Mallory felt like the rumors regarding the Night Class to be filled with smart people were insufficient. If the students in the Night Class are always at the top of the school and this was their attitude during classes, Mallory felt like they should be called geniuses instead of just smart.
"What are you thinking?" Leo asked, seeing how Mallory kept looking at other people and not at the board. "Why? Someone caught your eyes?"
"N-No, not that... It's just that everyone seems smart." Mallory could not help but have another look around the class.
Jealous, Leo grabbed Mallory's chin and made her look at him. "Darling, we're in class. Focus on the lesson."
"A-Ah, yes..."
Though he said that, Leo ignored the teacher as Mallory took notes. Mr. Ji-SINGLE-llion, who sat behind them, could not help but want to smack Leo's head. Can he be any less obvious?!
Leo felt bored. Though he had always been bored in classes, he felt extremely bored especially since it was night time. He had gotten used to waking in the morning and sleeping through the night just to stay besides Mallory. He looked at Mallory's notebook and saw how... messy she wrote. Mallory was the type of student who wrote every small detail in every lesson. She had a notebook where she first write a draft of her notes. Once they got home, she'll do her homework before rewriting her notes. This was one of the reasons as to why Mallory took so much time just to study.
Despite her messy writings, Leo could spot an empty space enough for doodles. With an evil smirk on his face, he picked up his pen and silently drew on Mallory's notebook. Now he wasn't bored.
...
Finally finishing the fourth subject for the night, Mallory dropped her pen. "Nng..."
Finally stretching her arms and legs, Mallory felt better. She wasn't as sleepy as she thought she'd be. Perhaps it was thanks to Leo who dragged her in bed. Thinking about Leo, Mallory turned to look at Leo who was fast asleep. He looked handsome as always. His cold look had soften and his mouth was slightly open.
Feeling a pair of eyes staring directly at him, Leo opened one eye to look at the source. Seeing how Mallory flinched at the sudden eye contact, Leo could not help but smile as he closed his eye and leaned on Mallory's shoulder.
"A-Azazel?" Mallory whispered, not knowing what to do.
"You can choose. Lend me your shoulder or lend me your blood. Your choice, Darling."
Choice? Mallory felt like tearing. "Yes." I'll be as still as a rock.
Satisfied, Leo was about to return to dreamland when he suddenly felt a familiar aura. His eyes shot open as he glared at the door. "Mallory, go sit near the window."
Mallory was confused as to why Leo requested to change seats. The moment they did, Leo placed both of their bags in between them on the table as if to cover her.
Within the next few seconds, a teacher entered the room. Just like the previous teachers, he did not greet the students and opened his book. Mallory curiously eyed at the book the teacher just opened. It was a book she never saw.
"Udine Lee."
His sudden voice startled Mallory. Though he spoke soft and low, she knew he was someone she shouldn't disagree with.
"Yes, sir?"
"What did I say about using your powers? Not only did you broke the rule, you also lost. Do you really think you could go against the new student?"
"Tsk." Leo could not help but click his tongue in irritation. Just as he suspected, this teacher was insanely keen when it comes to magic. "That bastard..."
Mallory could not understand how Leo hate the teacher. In fact, she was in awe at how the teacher noticed Udine's use of magic as well as her lost. Seeing how he correctly identified Udine's magic, Mallory already had an inkling that he knew she used hers as well.
"Answer, Udine Lee."
"Sir, she entered the Night Class as a halfling," Udine answered honestly.
"Halfling or not, she was scouted by the principal, himself. What else will be your excuse?"
"Sir, she has human blood!" Udine probably thought the teacher did not know Mallory's blood.
"Human blood?" The teacher felt like laughing. "I see. No wonder you lost." The teacher then turned to look at Mallory. "I'm Sir Elias Williams, you're teacher for the specialized class focusing on Magic Control. There are rules to follow and not to question. I'm sure there's no objection, Miss New Student?"
Mallory shook her head as she stood up instinctively, "None, Sir. My name is Mallory Klein, I'm looking forward for your class."
"Sir Elias! Do you mean to accept her as your student?!" Udine could not agree to it. Though she lost in a surprise attack she made on Mallory, she was still unwilling to accept Mallory.
"Udine Lee, let me ask you once more, what do you think she is?"
"A halfling?"
"What exactly?"
"A human, Sir."
Elias could not help but smile. He looked back at Mallory before requesting her to change her seats. "Mallory, you're new here and I have a lot to ask and discuss with you. Can you sit in the front row for me to have an easier time?"
"Y-Yes!" Mallory was about to pack her books when she suddenly felt a tug on her wrist.
"Sorry, Sir, she can't."
Narrowing his eyes, Elias confusedly asked, "And why is that Azazel?"
"She's my fiancée. I won't allow her."
"Fiancée?" Elias looked at Mallory then back at Leo. "Engaged?"
"Yes, Sir."
"Then just sit in front as well." Elias did not mind having to take care of a troublemaker. What he needed the most was to have Mallory as close as possible.
With Mallory's pleadings, Leo and Mallory sat at the front with Jillion being dragged around by Leo. The moment they sat, Elias placed a book in front of Mallory. He flipped the book to a certain page and explained, "Everyone has different powers. There are different categories. There are offensive magic, defensive magic, and sometimes a mixture of the two. Other than that, there are different purposes. Some magic are for long range attacks, some are for short range. Some are used to constraint the enemies. Since you're Leo's fiancée, I'm pretty sure you've experienced his barrier or Jillion's, or rather, Ian's decoding skills. Udine's chains can both constraint and attack the target. So far, do you understand?"
"Yes, Sir."
"Then how do you practice one's magic? Do you know?"
Mallory read through the page. Nothing was catching her attention to answer Elias' question. She furrowed her brows, "I'm not sure, Sir."
"A guess is fine. Don't worry."
"Then..." Mallory recalled the books she silently read back in her father's home. There were different books from different times regarding the mastering of one's powers. In most of the books, there was a common practice. Mallory summarized what she knew and gave a quick answer.
Elias nodded, but he wasn't satisfied. "That's right. It's good you kno— Is there something else?" Elias asked the moment he saw Mallory's furrowed brows. It seems she wasn't satisfied as well.
"Though what I mentioned has been a practice since way before, I just can't help but feel like it's wrong, Sir."
"Oh, and why is that?"
Unlike other classes, whenever a teacher entered, the students in the Night Class did nothing. The teacher did not introduce themselves, greet the students, nor asked who the new student was.
