The Vampire's Bride

Chapter 8 - Are You Being Professional?

Mallory was in a deep state of thinking as the class went on.

The principal said that Master Orpheus is my test... what does he mean? Could it be that Master Orpheus realized something and is currently testing me now? But what is the unique thing that I have that passed the standards? Being a half-blooded vampire?

Mallory scoffed at her idea. Anyone knew that having a pure blooded vampire is better than a half-blooded one. She shook her head to erase the possibility of that thought.

"—iss Mallory Klein!"

Mallory flinched, almost jumping from her seat, when she heard her name being called. She looked up to see her teacher who had her hands on her h.i.p.s, glaring at Mallory. "Miss Klein, I believe that daydreaming is also considered as sleeping. If you are daydreaming then please get out of my class. If you were just dazed and thinking of something else, please tell us now."

Mallory could not tell them the reason why she was dazed. Being invited to join the Night Class... there would be issues and students will complain, giving everyone a hard time. She could see it happening already...

So she decided to just bite her lower lip and shook her head slightly.

The teacher sighed and spoke softer, hiding her malicious intentions, "Miss Klein, please consider this as a warning. Now come to the board and answer these two questions. If you cannot answer them because you did not understand, then just tell me."

Suddenly, one of the students shouted, "She cannot understand because she didn't listen, Miss! I doubt there's even a brain in her!"

Other students took it as their cue and laughed, joining the fun.

"The questions are not even taught yet... you could only answer it if you're a genius!"

"Is she though?"

Mallory, on the other hand, was on her way to the board. She was, once again, in a deep state of thinking. She picked up the marker from the teacher's hand and started writing. She did not even hesitate... because she was not in her right mind.

Her mind was back to being occupied with the Night Class offer...

She remembered the Principal's parting words as she exited the room...

"Miss Klein, please think this through... though you might not know the real standards of being a student of the Night Class, I can tell you one thing... I am placing you there because you have a role in there. And that's something that you need to find out by yourselves. That's why please accept my offer."

Before she could even respond, Leo spoke firmly, "It's not an option."

Mallory innerly sighed. She still couldn't determine if Leo was on the good side or the bad side. Every time she sees him, she'll get intimidated and will revert to being weak... the side she had ever since then. She wanted to change... but everywhere she goes there they are... the faces of the people who tortured her mentally and physically... the faces of the people who made her hate blood...

She turned around on her heels and spoke, "Miss, I am done."

Her voice turned out to be more firm than she wanted it to so she quickly lowered her head. She noticed them not speaking. She looked at the teacher besides her who had her mouth slightly opened. She stared at her eyes and noticed that they were genuinely surprised.

Why...?

She turned around to look at the questions. Indeed it was solvable... so why were they surprised?

It was just as what the others had said earlier... the topic was not taught by the teacher... so how did she managed to answer such questions?

"Miss, can I go back to sit?" Mallory asked quietly, seeing that the teacher looked back and forth between her and the board. The teacher checked Mallory's answer seriously. As she went from one line to the other, her face grew with disbelief. At the end of the solution, her eyebrows furrowed. Did she really solve this? But no one other than her came to the board... it's impossible but the truth is here...

Since the teacher haven't teach the class about it yet, everyone was curious. Finally, a student meekly asked, "Miss, is she correct?"

"Yes."

This was enough to silence the thoughts of embarrassing Mallory.

Mallory quietly went back to her seat and looked down at her open notebook. One page was empty, the other was filled with doodles. Everyone in class knew about her grades... it was neither bad nor good... always in the middle. This was one of the reasons why she thought she could not pass the Night Class.

And she just made a huge mistake. It had been years that she tried to stay in the middle of the class' average. With just her thoughts flying everywhere, her facade was broken.

The silence was broken by a familiar voice.

"Miss, since Mallory already answered it, can you explain it to us?"

Everyone turned their heads to look at the dark blue-haired man. He had a smirk on his face, as if he knew all along that she, Mallory, could do it.

The teacher frowned. Mallory's solution was step-by-step; very simple and understandable by anyone. If this was hard to understand for the man, how else could she explain it for him to understand?

"Which part do you not understand Azazel?"

"Everything."

The class started whispering.

"Azazel is actually asking? I thought he had high grades?"

"Could it be that even he doesn't know about such things?"

"No way... that cannot be... those who are included in the Night Class are all in another level of... intelligence."

"Then... could it be he is playing with Miss?"

"But why?"

"I don't know! But this is weird... why would Azazel play around with Miss over the solution that Mallory made..."

The student's voice became silent... they suddenly knew what was happening when they heard the girl's name.

"F**k! Please tell me that it's a lie... tell me Azazel is not doing this for the freak!"

"But it's the only explanation!"

"So this is his revenge for the freak?"

"Why? Are they even friends?"

"Oh God... don't joke around!"

"Then why else would he do it? Hell he even looked proud as she answered it! It's hard to imagine that there is nothing going on between them with the look of satisfaction on his face!"

"It's even harder to imagine them having something between them, dude!"

The teacher's face scrunched up as she listened to the class. Something between Azazel and the freak?

Just as the students hated Mallory, there a number of teachers who also hated Mallory and their current teacher was one of them. She was not scared to embarrass Mallory in front of everyone...

But she was scared to go against the famous Azazel of the Night Class!

In the end, she could not do anything but half-heartedly praise Mallory, "Really, Azazel? With Klein's solution, I believe it is pretty clear. If you have any questions wouldn't it be better for you to ask Klein? It is, after all, her answer."

The teacher had successfully pushed all the responsibilities to Mallory as she spoke.

Mallory's eyes shone with disguised. They were using her again. She looked at Leo who still had a smirk on his face. She knew from the start that he was lying about not being able to understand a thing of the topic. She stared into his eyes and found a lot of lies as he spoke. She couldn't understand why though.

The class waited for Leo's reply quietly. Leo glanced at the clock and waited for a few minutes, watching the teacher sweat in amus.e.m.e.nt.

Those that dare to bully my partner will experience hell with me...

Just before the clock strikes twelve, Leo spoke, "Does that mean that you, Miss, do not know how to explain such things to students? Are you being professional?"

*Briiiinggg*

The bell rang, indicating for the students and teachers to take their lunch break. Leo quickly stood up and grabbed Mallory who had her hands on her lunch bag. With a silent yelp, Mallory was pulled out of the class.

The whole room stayed silent as they watched the door closed before them. After a moment, the room was in an uproar.

"F**k! My eyes! My eyes are not lying!"

"Pinch me now... This cannot be true!"

"D*mn! Azazel really did it for the freak!"

"He protected the freak?! He even pulled her out of the room!"

"And he even dared to question the teacher!"

"F**k! What the hell is happening?!"

"Is the sun rising on the west?!"

The teacher frowned and quietly step out of the room. She was too embarrassed... she should have done the slapping but her face was slapped hard by Azazel's words.

"D*mn! Had I known that girl was related to Azazel, I would have thought of other ways! Not only did I failed to embarrass Klein, I need to explain these things to Thana and Anna! F***! Trouble after trouble!"
