The witch's rebirth

Feeling a little pain was normal enough the gold left was warning me of danger. It was a common reaction when people got defensive around me but never before did it feel like being burn alive. Most importantly, I didn't like the Knights around the table and they didn't like me. I don't think it would be the cause of it. It wasn't something the lady did.

Taking a deep breath in I look into the ladies eyes as the binding pull me in like a fly in a spider web with no escape in sight so I nodded and smiled just like I was taught to do. Never look a gift in the horse mouth especially one from a powerful person and was freely given.

The lady of the lake looked miffed. It was as if she had done me a great favor and was expecting me to kiss her feet with gratitude. Well, she sort of did. I didn't ask for it but she deserved a thankyou.

"Thank you,"

"You're welcome child,"

"I can't. I'm sorry. I won't. It wasn't what I wanted. I just needed to report my findings, never expected for me to get involved after it is over." I said trying to be polite. I hate to disappoint her but I'm not that type of girl, still, I had to lighten the blow.

She was very kind to me and for that I was going to be on my best behavior. I'd even smile at her knights even if I really wanted to strangle them.

The Knights of the Round Table were obnoxious males. They look at the lady as if she was helpless and in danger. I do wonder if they had a reason behind it all but what I saw now was madness. I mean being overprotective is one thing but this was extream. And coming from someone who was around Diana and her boys well, that said something.

"Of course dear, how silly of me to think you'd want to work with them."

"Why?" I asked scoffing at the Knights.

"They need you but I should have known better," she said with a devious smile. "It has been difficult to adjust to the twenty-first century. They underestimate the female and they have to stop. It's been their downfall too often."

"Isn't there some other person suitable? Contractor? Finders? Protectors?"

"No." She answers her eyes flared with anger. "It won't end up right. We need to work with the elite eight. THe most suitable is Alpha Knight. He won't work with anyone other than you. He demanded it and without him, we won't have a chance to clean up this mess, we've created. There is something he knows linking to the case. He believes Sonia was involved and has a lead we may be able to work."

"Surely there are other options?"I asked surprised.

"No, he's never cared about anything else and never will. I need him on our side. We may work for the council but the goals are different. "The lady said with a heavy signed.
