151. The Most Romantic Thing

Both rank-and-file employees and senior managers looked forward to a weekend. Nancheng Lie was no exception. He had waited five days for Saturday and eventually it came. He couldn’t wait to date with his Xu.

Early in the morning, no sooner had the sun shown itself above the horizon than he woke Li Qinghao up. He wanted to take Li Qinghao to swim.

There was a very big swimming pool at Nancheng Mansion. Nancheng Lie liked swimming very much, but recently he was so busy that he even had no time to go swimming. Some days ago Nancheng Beibei’s words had provoked him. That day they sat together and watched TV after dinner. Nancheng Beibei liked good-looking people. Nancheng Lie was her youngest uncle and was very handsome. That was why she like to be around him.

“Uncle, I saw a very handsome man today.” Nancheng Beibei lay prone on the carpet by Nancheng Lie’s feet. There was a flush in her cheeks. She behaved like a teenager girl who was enchanted by a certain handsome boy.

With a smile, Nancheng Lie teased, “Do you know the meaning of the word ‘handsome’?”

“Of course I know. I saw him when we were watching a Hollywood movie,” Nancheng Beibei explained solemnly with a straight face.

“How do you know about Hollywood movies?” Nancheng Li was wondering if children nowadays were all precocious like Nancheng Beibei.

“Minghao told me.” Nancheng Beibei mentioned Li Qinghao, her eyes sparkling with excitement. In her view, Li Qinghao was a man of great erudition although he looked very young.

“Oh? What else did he say?” Nancheng Lie’s attitude toward Nancheng Beibei changed completely when talking of Li Qinghao.  He picked up Nancheng Beibei and planted a kiss on her cheek. In fact, he didn’t like to take a child in his arms, because children were so delicate that he was afraid of hurting them.

“A beautiful woman in that movie fell into the water, and then a very handsome man jumped down and saved her. Then they kissed in the water. Grandma said it was so romantic. I asked her what the word ‘romantic’ meant.  She said there was no need for me to know the meaning of the word because I’m just a child. The other elders also refused to tell me the answer, so I had to ask Minghao. He said that the most romantic thing is to kiss someone you like in the water. There is a very big swimming pool in our yard. Uncle, I like Minghao. I want to do the most romantic thing with him in the swimming pool.”

Hearing this, Nancheng Lie was instantly on the alert. He didn’t expect Nancheng Beibei to covet his Xu. In the eye of Nancheng Lie, anyone who coveted Han Mingxu was his enemy, and even his niece Nancheng Beibei was no exception. From that day on, he was looking forward to the weekend, because he planned to do something romantic with Xu.

“Xu, it’s time to get up.” Nancheng Lie took Li Qinghao by the shoulders and shook him continuously. Obviously, he was determined to wake Li Qinghao.

“What’s up?” Li Qinghao tried to open his eyes, but felt heavy-lidded.

“Let’s go swimming.”

‘I want to do the most romantic thing with you while swimming,’ Nancheng Lie thought.

“Are you crazy?” Li Qinghao decided to ignore Nancheng Lie. He wanted to go back to sleep.

“Come on, Xu.” Nancheng Lie pulled Li Qinghao out of the bed and continued, “If you’re still sleepy, you can sleep by the swimming pool.” Anyway, he wanted to go swimming.

Li Qinghao kicked Nancheng Lie away and replied, “I won’t go!”

“Please.” Nancheng Lie carried Li Qinghao out of the room. Now Li Qinghao was just a short, slim teenager, and posed no threat to Nancheng Lie. ‘It would be a good thing if he couldn’t grow taller,’ Nancheng Lie thought selfishly.

The servants, who got up early to prepare breakfast and clean the house, were all dumbfounded when they saw Nancheng Lie come downstairs with Li Qinghao over his shoulders. They were surprised that these two young men, who had always been tender and passionate towards each other, were quarreling.

“Make up a bed by the swimming pool. My dear cousin wants to have a sleep.” In the eyes of the servants, Li Qinghao was Nancheng Lie’s cousin, the son of Nancheng Lie’s mother’s female cousin.

“Yes, my Young Master.”

The servants soon made up the bed. Nancheng Liei put Li Qinghao on it. He did some stretches to warm up and jumped into the swimming pool. The servants standing nearby were stunned. Although it was midsummer, the water was still quite cold in the morning.

 

As Nancheng Lie entered the water, a chill shiver rippled over his skin. The water was cold indeed. But soon he came back to himself and began to swim.

Nancheng Beibei got up early. Children preferred playing to sleeping. After getting up, she sat by a window. She could plainly see what was going on outside from here. “Baobao, get up quickly! Uncle Lie is swimming outside.” With that, she jumped off the sofa and ran downstairs.

She ran to the edge of the swimming pool and waved excitedly to Nancheng Lie. “Uncle… Uncle… ” She didn’t brush her teeth or wash her face yet.

Nancheng Lie turned around and saw Nancheng Beibei standing by the pool. His eyelids twitched involuntarily. He felt something bad was going to happen. As expected, before he could say something to distract his niece Nancheng Beibei, she found Li Qinghao lying on the bed by the swimming pool. She went up and whispered his name, “Minghao?”

There was no response from Li Qinghao. Nancheng Beibei leaned forward to take a close look at him and found him sleeping. Her hand shot to her mouth to stifle a giggle. Nancheng Lie immediately got out of the swimming pool when he saw what was going to happen. Unfortunately, he was too far away to stop his niece.

Nancheng Beibei pushed her face towards Li Qinghao and then pouted her lips. Obviously, she was going to kiss him.

Nancheng Lie cried out, “No!”

Just then, Li Qinghao awoke from a sound sleep and opened his eyes. Nancheng Beibei was startled. “Minghao…” she murmured.

Nancheng Lie was running towards them. He didn’t find that Li Qinghao was awake.

“Shh.” Li Qinghao gave her a smile and said, “You want to give me a kiss, right? Come on, sweetie.” With that, he closed his eyes.

“Yeah!” Nancheng Beibei nodded happily and kissed him hard on the cheek.

Nancheng Lie flew into a rage. “Ah! Nancheng Beibei, I’m going to kill you.” His angry roar reverberated in the villa and startled all the people. The servants, Nancheng Lie’s parents, Nancheng Yunyu and his wife all got up and went over to the windows to see what was happening.

In the yard, Nancheng Lie was running after Nancheng Beibei. Li Qinghao’s laughter echoed in their ears.

Some people said only a man and a woman could form a family. But in fact, two men could live happily together, too.
