Episode 75: The Situation of the Empire
evening of August 23rd.
Luna, along with the Theophilus, was in the main impulse Lark Hill west of the Empire.
Theophilus then explains to Legion Leader of the Fourth Legion, Count Adolf Rednap, Deputy Legion Leader Calvin Rednap and Lark Hill deputy Luther Lanswick that Ray will intervene to put the war on.
When I heard Theo explain, Uncle Rednap said, "So what do you want us to do?" he asks with a sharp eye.
Theo was not frightened by the light of his eyes.
"Lord Arklight has declared that he will stop the fight. Which means he hopes the Imperial Army won't open its warring edge either."
"Isn't that strange? Luke will attack us in the first place, so we intercept to protect the country. Stopping the other side is the muscle, and that's not why we stop fighting."
Theo dwells on Rednap's argument.
"If those who arc light threaten us, we must crush them with the prestige of the Empire."
"The Humans are powerful warriors. In the field, we pride ourselves on our unparalleled strength."
"I know that. Even my Fourth Corps will not be able to resist the same number of human horses. But even though we know it's overwhelmingly unfavourable, there's no way a flourishing Imperial Army can get away with tailwinding. As an Imperial soldier, this is a matter of perseverance."
Theo can't argue with that temperament.
So Luna opened her mouth for the first time.
"If the Lukes army is going to pull up, don't you dare to fight?
"That's not true," Calvin says in a voice.
"The enemy is attacking us with the intention of invading. Just because I pull it up doesn't mean I can go home without doing anything"
Though Luna also feels the word is right, she desperately thinks about how to persuade her.
(Count Rednap should have been the bearer of rational thoughts, just like the Duke of Ezarrington. For example, instead of appealing to emotions, it's better to be profitable. But it would be more beneficial for the Empire and the Fourth Corps to pursue and reduce their enemies. Seems like you're worried about what to say too, and this is where I have to do something... why Luke's soldiers should go home intact... many people survive. That means more witnesses. The reason it's better is......)
Desperately went around the thought and came to one conclusion.
"If the Humans intervene to stop the war, the Imperial Army will also gain more from not moving"
Rednap loosened his sharp glance and said, "Well, what's the reason?" and curiosity.
"This Luke's departure begins with the emergence of the God of Light (Lucidus), helping Luke's army to win. In other words, what would happen if Lucidus' manifestation told him to stop a useless fight without contributing to victory..."
So I cut the words once and look at the three men in turn.
Rednap has an interesting look on his face, Calvin is shuddered by what he's talking about, and Lanswick hasn't broken his serious look.
"... God's use overshadows the word of the priests. And God's use exhorts believers to pull up so they don't get hurt. And that fact is going to discredit the Light God and shake the backbone of a country called Luke's Holy Kingdom."
"It's an interesting story, but it doesn't leave the realm of imagination. If that means losing authority, shouldn't we smash it by the time it's done without skin? Though I think it would be more effective to tell them that the gods didn't do anything to me?
Luna calmly responds to Rednap's objections.
"It's not. Luke's peasant militias were just forced by the clergy to bring them in the first place, and they never want to fight. If many lives are lost there, the anger against the empire that has laid its hands directly will be stronger than the anger against the denomination. Perhaps the priests will use it to try to wage war again. But if they return alive, the fact that God's use led us to stop fighting through ourselves will be largely conveyed within Luke's country. Wouldn't it be beneficial for the Empire in the long run?"
"I don't know what to say. I personally, no, the Chancellor would agree with you..."
So Luna shines her eyes,
"... but big organizations don't move simply because they're rational. I'm sure your brother Zacharias understands better than I do around here."
So Theo joins the conversation again.
"I mean, given the interests of the whole empire, you don't have to have a useless war with Luke, but you can name another factor, a specific name, but it's hard to have the thoughts of another..."
"I don't care who you're talking about, but that's the thing. Politics is intricately intertwined with a variety of matters. A genius like Zacharias, or a genius like his wife Sharon, would have come up with an effective measure in this situation as well. But I don't think you can do the same thing as Zacharias or Sharon."
Theo and Luna had to bite their lips at the words.
"But if you challenge the Humans to fight, I think even the Imperial Army will definitely lose. If you lose in battle, that's it. I don't think people deserve to lead those who make that decision."
That's what Serra says and hits the verdict.
"You're right," Rednap laughs unwittingly at Serra's youth-like honesty, but quickly squeezes his expression,
"I don't know what that means. Some Mitsuhito."
So Luna started thinking again.
(The Count wants to stop this war. But His Highness Leopold, the Commander-in-Chief, may not acknowledge it. So we have to do something about His Highness... if Ray stops the Imperial Army in another way, instead of intimidating him, His Highness Leopold will inadvertently be unable to move either...)
Think that far, but I couldn't think of any specific measures. For this reason, I consider no further talks meaningful and send a signal to Theo.
Theo felt the same way, nodding small before starting to talk.
"Okay. This time we have provided information, which I hope will be discussed again in the future. We don't want bloodshed. Whether that's an Imperial soldier or a Luke soldier."
"I feel the same way. If I can, I'd like to change this situation with my own hands, but it's hard right now. I hope a man named Arklight, known as the White Warrior, is wise, as rumored."
At the end of the meeting with Uncle Rednap, Luna and the others tried to leave the castle in search of accommodation. But Lucien retains it.
"They say you can stay at His Excellency the Legion Commander's mansion. I can barely go back, my lord."
The Legion Commander has a large mansion available, but he's packing it into Lark Hill Castle because of a situation where he doesn't know when the Lukes army will show up.
Luna and the others thankfully received the favour and headed to the mansion.
After entering the mansion and eating meals, we discussed our future policies.
"The Count seems to be in favour of stopping the war. But I don't think I can think of a way to stop His Highness Leopold."
When Luna cuts out like that, Theo nods, "I think so, too."
"I'm sorry, but I think we should leave this place to Ray."
"It's enough to be called a white military master, so you might come up with a good idea, but it's cruel to expect excessively from him. Until now, I had a commander, and he was in the role of assisting me with that, but this time I'm going to have to command the great army myself. It's against the heartless people of the meadows."
In Theo's words, Luna says, "Right," too.
"But I need you to tell me about this situation and get around it well. So I think I'll go back to him. 'Cause I wouldn't stand out as much as you guys, and I don't think I'd bother the house."
If someone from the Lockhart family is with the Humans and the Humans are going to attack the Imperial Army, as an Imperial Government, we will see that as a problem. The possibility of motioning punishment against the Lockhart family cannot be denied, especially since the Prince Leopold faction suffers both directly and indirectly.
On the other hand, the fact that Theophilus lived with the Humans is a famous story in the central and western regions. If that they are in the Imperial Army, they are unlikely to be noticed even if Luna, who has never been familiar with the Empire, is gone.
"Right. We can't move. Then I think it would be most sensible to leave it to Luna"
Thus Luna was to head to the meadow zone again. However, heading to the meadows to the dark clouds could be a mistake, and we were to gather information in Lark Hill for about three days before heading east.
"But are you okay? We can't be together," Sella worries.
Only two people accompany Luna, Ryan and Ione, because as an escort they are not comparable to the Theos beyond level fifty.
"It's okay. Because this neighborhood is relatively safe, and as long as our horses are on the ground, we can get away with it."
Thus he stayed at Lark Hill until August 26th and was to head east on the morning of the 27th.
■ ■ ■
August 17th.
Time goes back after the Lunas departed from the camp near Netherton.
Even after the departure of the Lunas, there were many human horses and nomads visiting the camp of the Sorrels.
Everyone wants a glimpse of the white king in the inheritance, and many of them make a line before Ray.
While talking to the people of the meadows, Ray was holding discussions with Hamish Markat and Sorrell clan chiefs Leeva and others about the upcoming operation. And replenishment has emerged as a problem.
Five hundred km (Kimmel) from Netherton to Lark Hill. It takes nearly ten days for a group of people to maneuver. There is also the question of what to do with livestock, which is food and an asset, when it moves at that rate.
The people of the meadows have cattle like sheep and bison besides horses. It's possible to move it, but if you can't move it, you can't eat the bait and it's debilitating.
In addition, grass should usually be given for horses, but nutritious feed such as grain is required when exercising intensely such as long distance travel.
A proposal was made by Ray on the issue of replenishment.
"I don't know how much you'll have to go with, but tens of thousands of people will need food, horse feed, etc to move. As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to make it a minimal unit, but the story of Lord Leeva was that even the Humans alone would be 20,000, and all the nomads would be 30,000 or 40,000. I'm going to put you ahead as a heavy squad to feed all those people."
Ray suggested a way for troops with food and more to get ahead of him and supply food and more to the troops he will be chasing later.
"We humans can carry sufficient quantities of our own food…"
The Humans are nearly three hundred kilograms (kilograms) even for the small ones, and a thousand kilograms (kilograms) for the big ones like the warrior chief. Food consumption, however, is somewhat higher than that of normal humans and is very fuel efficient.
This is because we use the power of the Spirit as energy, just like demons.
Also, unlike horseback riding, humans don't let people on, so the torso part of the horse is completely empty. It is not difficult to put about 100 kg (kilograms) of supplies there. For this reason, heavy units are not required and can travel faster than normal cavalry.
"In the worst case scenario, I'm going to go ahead with all of you humans, but as far as I'm concerned, I want to see you working with nomads as well"
"Is it to show that not only the Humans and Horses who are Fae, but all the people of the meadows follow you"
To Hamish's words, Ray nodded, "You're right,"
"It cannot be seen lightly if, as an empire, it turns not only to the 50,000 human horses, but also to the 200,000 nomads"
"Right. Humans exert tremendous power in the field, but they are still at a disadvantage in sieges and city warfare. With the addition of nomads, we can make up for that weakness. The commander of the Imperial Army will think so."
Hamish is right, the Humans do not allow other cavalry followers to follow with their mobility and breakthroughs. We can say that we pride ourselves on our invincible strength in a plain that is difficult to trap. However, they have no effective means of attacking fortresses protected by rugged walls, and their giants have become enemies in city warfare and forest warfare, making it difficult to say that they are effective.
We need a human warrior to compensate for that human horse's weakness. Not exactly the same, but close to a combination of tanks and mechanized infantry.
"What do the commanders do when it comes to putting heavy units ahead? Lord Leeva needs to be with you, but I have no idea who else I can count on."
Ray also says, "I'm worried about that too," to Ashley's question, turning his gaze to Hamish.
"I'd like to leave it to someone who can be trusted by the humans or nomads, but it's too much time to make you understand what I think. All I can think of is getting an advisor from the Mercenary Corps (Red Arms)."
"Elias would be the right man for us. He won't be insulted by the nomads."
Hamish named squad captain Elias Nifer.
Squad Four is a rare unit specializing in horseback combat for the mercenary regiment, and boasts the skill of not taking a pull on the regular units of the Imperial Army, which boast a strong cavalry.
The advance forces were to consist of five thousand soldiers, mainly the Karkas, nomads. It was also decided to buy out large quantities of feed in Netherton, and the advance troops would leave as they were.
After the next day, the Horse Races gather continuously to present a festival-like appearance.
On August 19th, the Humans alone made more than 40,000, and when the nomads were combined, it became a massive group of more than 100,000.
Ray learns a sense of similarity to the glare in that number.
(This is all the people gathered under the “White King"... but don't bring this many people. How do I narrow it down......)
When you talk to Leeva about it,
"I was wondering if I should be declared to take only the elite of each clan. So half of the Horse and a third of the Nomads."
"Then please add that Mr. Leeva is only as elite as he admits. Because as far as I'm concerned, 10,000 human horses and 10,000 nomads are too much."
"Okay. Now let's get into the sorting process," he began to gather representatives of each clan.
Reeva proclaims aloud where the delegates gather.
"It is the appearance of the White King! This is what the king says! He says we need the right quality to follow, not the number! Only the name of the family shamelessly gathers under the king!
However, the sorting exercise made it extremely difficult. The Humans and Horses in particular were proud of their high fighting power, with very few to pull themselves off.
Ultimately, on this occasion, it was to settle down with a total of 45,000 troops of 15,000 human horses and 30,000 nomads. However, with the Karcas and five thousand others ahead of them, some families have not yet arrived and are scheduled to rendezvous along the way, it was expected that there would be a total of about 70,000 Humans and Horses and 50,000 Nomads in Lark Hill.
"Is it seventy thousand... can you squeeze a little more," Ray said,
"If we try to reduce this any further, we have to let them fight and decide. How many days will it take... Consider this the least we can do in time for tomorrow's departure"
"We're leaving for the west with the dawn of tomorrow," Ray nodded with a giving up look.
