“Amazing, try this one”
“Try this one again.”
Harry tried several different ones but couldn't figure out what worked.
"Will we have so much trouble choosing a wand?"
Hermione asked quietly as she watched Harry try out the wands one by one.
Dudley paused and said, "I think maybe it's just Harry."
Ollivander went through several wands until he found
"Holly wood, Phoenix feather, eleven inches long."
As Harry swept his wand through the air, there was a flash of red light.
I have to say that Ollivander is really good at choosing wands, and the wand he chose for Harry is very suitable for him.
Next it was Hermione's turn to choose a wand. Just as Dudley said, Ollivander easily picked out the most suitable wand for her.
Hermione swung her wand across the air, and a rainbow immediately appeared.
"Grapevine wood, dragon heartstring core, ten and three-quarter inches."
"Then finally, this gentleman's." Ollivander looked up at Dudley for a while, then took out a wand and handed it to Dudley: "Try this."
"Maple wood, phoenix feather, seven inches long, very elastic."
Dudley took it and waved it casually, but there was no response except a gust of wind.
Ollivander frowned for the first time when he saw this.
Even when he was choosing a wand for Harry Potter, he didn't react like this.
Then he took out a wand and handed it to Dudley.
"Ebony, unicorn hair, eight and a half inches"
There was another sound of breaking wind.
Now, Ollivander's frown deepened.
Then the third one
"Ten inches, hawthorn, unicorn hair"
fourth root.
"Willow, unicorn hair, fourteen inches"
Dudley replaced the wands one by one, but unlike Harry's wands, which had different reactions, Dudley's wands had no reaction at all.
It felt like a Muggle waving a branch around. There was no other word to describe it except silly.
Ollivander's forehead was wrinkled into a shape of a "川" character.
Hermione looked from Dudley to Harry and then back to the wand in her hand.
Was I too careless with this one? I can try a few more.
No matter how dumb Dudley was, he realized that something was wrong, so after returning the nth wand to Ollivander, he grabbed a box nearby.
"I feel like this wand is calling me. Didn't you say that wands choose their masters? Well, this is it."
Dudley said very perfunctorily, not giving Ollivander a chance to speak, took out twenty-one gold Galleons and placed them on the counter, then pulled Hermione and Harry away as if escaping.
Ollivander watched the three people leave without stopping them.
"Iron birch, Thestral tail feathers, nine inches"
"Iron birch is too hard, and the Thestral tail feathers are too unstable. Neither the material nor the core of the wand is what I like."
"That was the worst wand I've ever made. It was more like a dagger than a wand."
Chapter 32 I have something to confess
After hurriedly coming out of Ollivander's Wand Shop, I came to the shop directly opposite, which was a pet shop.
Dudley suddenly slapped his forehead and said, "Oh, Harry, I almost forgot. I didn't have time to give you a present for your birthday two days ago."
"Harry's birthday?" Hermione asked. "When is it?"
"Just the day before yesterday," said Dudley.
Hermione nodded and suddenly suggested, "How about Dudley and I give you a pet together?"
Although she and Harry had only met a few times, and Dudley wouldn't have known Harry, but Harry was Dudley's cousin.
pet? !
The word instantly piqued Harry's interest; he had never had a pet other than a spider.
"It's over. I don't think it's necessary."
It was fine since Dudley was her brother, but Hermione had only known him for a short time.
It's not a good idea to accept gifts from others.
"I have done it every year, and this time will be no exception. Besides, Hermione's birthday is next month, so why not prepare a good gift for her? You are the richest among us."
At the end, he patted Harry on the shoulder and said, "Let's go in and see what's inside."
She put her arm around his neck and walked towards the pet store.
When she heard her birthday, Hermione blushed slightly, tidied her hair a little, and followed the two people towards the pet shop.
At the entrance of the pet shop, a few SAO mice dancing the samba attracted the attention of many young wizards, but their parents obviously would not buy them.
"The notice said that I could choose an owl or a cat as a pet."
Dudley subconsciously ignored toads. Except for a few people, almost no one liked that kind of thing, at least he himself didn't like it, and Harry didn't like it either. Hermione, as a girl, would like it even less.
There are all kinds of things in pet shops, but the types are not that many, mostly mice, toads, owls and cats.
But Dudley also saw several small lizards and parrots, one of which even breathed fire.
Of course, these can only be regarded as ordinary animals. Perhaps they are smarter than ordinary animals. Even if they have some blood of magical animals, they are still only ordinary animals.
At least Dudley couldn't communicate with them in Beastiality.
He wanted to get a magical animal to raise, but unfortunately there was none in this pet shop.
There are pet shops everywhere on this street. After visiting several of them, Harry finally found the pet he wanted, a snowy owl with black spots.
"Why not a cat?"
Hermione asked, preferring cats to owls, "Don't you like cats?"
"Dudley prefers cats." Harry shook his head and explained, "Aunt Petunia is allergic to cat hair, so Dudley doesn't even have one."
Harry actually doesn't like cats. When he was at Mrs. Figg's house, it was Dudley who preferred to hang out with Cher and the others. He actually hated the smell of cats.
“That’s a shame.”
Hermione looked regretful, she wanted to have a cat but she didn't find one she liked in these pet shops.
Raising a cat is actually the same as finding a partner. All it takes is a good eye for the relationship.
Listening to their conversation, Dudley was somewhat interested. He turned to Hermione and said, "If I get a cat in the future, can I keep it at your house during the holidays?"
Penny doesn't like furry things very much, so she could only put the furry things in the house she bought when she brought them back.
"Okay," Hermione said softly.
I have to say that the purchasing power of gold Galleons is still very strong in the wizarding world. After a round of shopping, I bought a lot of things and even an owl, and there were still a lot left.
The main reason was that Dudley didn't buy the potion materials, otherwise no matter how much he had, it wouldn't be enough.
For example, the dragon liver sold nearby made Dudley a little tempted. Unfortunately, the Galleons in his pocket were really limited. 100 Galleons a year was definitely enough for school, but it was undoubtedly unrealistic to be more extravagant, especially since potions were still a big expense, especially the brewing of some rare potions was even more expensive, and the material cost was a huge expense.
Seventeen Sickles per ounce of dragon liver, about 28 grams.
Seventeen Sikke equals one Galleon.
This is why Potions Masters are so rare.
Poverty is a very intuitive reason.
The main reason was that in addition to brewing potions, Dudley also wanted to taste these things.
Dragon liver and phoenix marrow or something
Dudley thought about finding a way to earn some gold galleons before considering implementing this gourmet plan.
No matter which world you are in, as long as there are transactions, money is a very necessary thing.
When the three of them arrived at the agreed place, they found that only McGonagall, Petunia and Mrs. Granger were sitting in the shop. Vernon and Mr. Granger had agreed to go to the Leaky Cauldron for a drink.
The Dursleys only took the textbooks required by Hogwarts. They knew that their son was very independent, so they did not use the Galleons at random and kept them all for Dudley. The Grangers bought many other books because they knew how much their daughter loved reading.
"There is still a month before school starts. Hermione, can I come to your place often to read books during this month?"
Although he had read some magic books at Mrs. Figg's place before, she was a Squib after all, and the books she bought were not very comprehensive. No one would think that his knowledge was too rich.
Especially since I will be going to an unknown magical place to study in a month, knowledge, especially some common sense knowledge, becomes even more important.
Dudley's eyes lit up as he looked at the pile of books that was almost as tall as a person.
How many Galleons did this cost?
Dudley admitted that he was jealous.
"Um"
Hermione naturally would not refuse Dudley's simple request. She nodded gently, and then her face flushed slightly as if she remembered something.
It seemed that no boy except Dudley had ever come to his house.
Dudley swore that he really just wanted to learn.
If he had to buy so many books himself, he would definitely buy them, but why should he spend money when he can get them for free?
Even though he now has some assets in the world of ordinary people, he would be penniless in the magical world. It is important to make good use of existing resources.
Even though he still had more than a hundred gold Galleons left in his hand, the 100 gold Galleons exchanged for Harry's qualifications naturally went into Dudley's pocket. It was legal and there was no reason to waste it.
Petunia drove the car home. Vernon and Mr. Granger drank a lot. In their words, the wine in the wizarding world had a unique flavor.
The next day, after Dudley finished his morning exercise, the family sat at the dining table and enjoyed a delicious meal.
"Harry and I are expected to leave for Hogwarts on September 1st."
After swallowing a small sausage, Dudley cleared his throat and continued, "Before that, there is something I need to confess to you. I originally planned to tell you when you are adults."
At this point, his expression turned somewhat serious.
Seeing Dudley's serious expression, Vernon and Petunia also sat up straighter, and Harry probably guessed what Dudley was going to say.
"Actually, I opened a company outside."
Chapter 33 Other people's children are good in everything
The Dursley family of four spent a happy month. During this month, the four of them got along very happily. In addition to daily study and exercise, the family of four spent most of their time together going out to play, enjoying the remaining time together.
Although Hogwarts also has holidays, this is after all the first time traveling far away.
During this time, Dudley often went to Hermione's house to study with her, and of course he would bring Harry with him, for which Harry was forced to preview a lot of textbook content in advance. Hermione would occasionally go to the Dursleys' house to find Dudley, and Petunia was very happy about this.
The two families would occasionally make appointments to go fishing together, and because they attended the same school, the relationship between the two families became even closer.
Of course, the news that Dudley had started his own company really shocked the Dursleys.
Especially when I found out that the famous 'Jerry' was actually my own child, I didn't know what expression to use to express my feelings.
I thought my child was good enough, but I didn't expect him to be so outstanding.
However, their ability to accept is quite strong. After all, their sons and nephews are going to become wizards, so there is nothing wrong with starting another company.
And so it was September 1st.
