[Ding!]

[Quest Alert!]

[Defend Against the Pack:

The Dire Wolves consider you as a formidable enemy and have decided to attack you in packs of four. A pack of four is called as the Quarter Wolf. They have the ability to suspend the death of their pack members for a period of time.

The Pack has used the ability to suspend the death of Player Selafia's 50th Kill.

The Player has to survive the attacks of the wolves for 10 minutes for the effect to disappear, and the 50th kill will happen. Should you fail to survive the 10 minutes, the wolf will be revived and you will die.]

Cheng Xiu frowned. "If I don't survive, that means that I will be dead. What nonsense is this?"

[Ding!]

A red bar appeared at the corner of her eyes.

Cheng Xiu had played enough games to realise that she was looking at a health bar.

[To Survive, means to have your Health Bar at 15% at least. Should you fail to maintain that per cent of your Health Bar by the end of the 10 minutes countdown, the Quarter Pack will be considered as the winners, and you will receive instant death as the penalty.]

Cheng Xiu sighed. She really was underestimating the capabilities of the Devs of the Other World. They could complicate things so easily.

Cheng Xiu gripped the hilt of her silver-blue daggers in both her hands close to her chest, and waited as the wolf that she had thought was dead stand back up, a glowing blue diamond forming in between its brows and three other wolves joined it. One had a yellow circle at the forehead, one had a red square at the forehead, and the third had a green triangle.

Cheng Xiu cringed as she looked at the 'should be dead' diamond wearing wolf. "So this is like an act of revenge huh? I killed you so now, you are trying to kill me?"

The Undead Wolf growled at her.

Cheng Xiu sighed. "My luck is bad, you know? How else would I end up having these kinds of Quests while everyone else would be fighting slimes or doing groceries?"

She looked up at the ceiling in exasperation. "My dear Maya, you are a very...creative AI."

[Thank You.]

"That you heard," Cheng Xiu muttered.

The wolves growled as they dashed towards her at an invisible signal.

Cheng Xiu stood ramrod straight, staring down at the wolves.

The pack started to circle her, growling and barking at her.

Cheng Xiu pursed her lips, her eyes falling on the Health Bar that had 100% on it.

She had to be careful. Otherwise, she might end up losing this fight, and her willingness to kill that Baby Zombie would have been for nothing.

The wolf with the yellow circle leapt at her from the left, its claws extending out to reveal sharp, deadly nails.

Cheng Xiu faced it and slashed at the extended leg of the beast.

The blade and the beast's claws met with a twanging sound, sending sparks everywhere.

Cheng Xiu braced herself.

The wolf growled and snarled to her face, sending spittle towards her.

Cheng Xiu wrinkled her nose in distaste.

She saw a shadow move in her peripheral vision and dodged to the left, as she used the momentum to send the Yellow circle wolf that attacked her blade to the right.

Cheng Xiu watched as parts of her hair got bit by the wolf that had tried to attack from the side.

The teeth of the beast cut the hair strands into pieces, and the saliva of the beast melted the hair in its mouth.

The red square on its forehead glowed.

Cheng Xiu landed on her feet, very near the wolf with the green triangle on its forehead.

The thing tried to take a bite out of her guts but Cheng Xiu slashed its face with her knife as she jumped away from it.

The wolf snarled at her in pain as the blade took away one of its eyes.

Cheng Xiu frowned. She had not realised that these beasts had poisonous spittle...perhaps they did not.

Or at least, the regular Dire Wolves did not. It must be a speciality of the Quarter Wolves.

Cheng Xiu dodged as the first wolf started to attack her again.

The undead wolf stood still, watching as its pack members tried to kill its human killer. Its silver eyes started to glow blue as it waited for an opportunity.

Cheng Xiu kicked away the first wolf, and tried to slash her dagger at the wolf that had tried to take a bit of her sides behind her back.

She noticed the golden markings on its paws as it slashed at her, similar to the yellow circle on its forehead.

The beast growled and snarled at her, barking in anger at the human that held the power over it.

Cheng Xiu tried to pierce her dagger through the neck of the wolf.

A sharp pain started to spread from her shoulder to the small of her spine.

Cheng Xiu gasped in shock, and jumped away.

The undead wolf growled at her, pieces of her bloodied clothes still in its mouth. The diamond on its forehead glowed.

Its drool dripped from the chin into the folds of the clothing, burning it as it went down.

The red bar went down to 82%.

Cheng Xiu cringed at the pain in the mark left behind by the Diamond Wolf.

Blood dripped from her shoulder, flowing down her hand and coating her dagger-holding wrist.

Cheng Xiu pursed her lips. A part of her left breast was exposed to the air, giving her goosebumps.

She felt that she was lucky at that moment, that there were no male viewers to see her state of undress. She had always held herself in a certain image, and that image was being torn apart by Dire Wolves.

She was starting to dislike the canine species as a whole because of it.

And her Health Bar had gone down to 82% and seemed to be decreasing as she lost more blood.

Cheng Xiu glared at the Diamond Wolf. "I will enjoy killing you."

Cheng Xiu crouched and then dashed towards the wolves, uncaring of the pain that her movement caused her as her wounds were agitated.

She needed to kill that beast no matter what.

The Triangle Wolf leapt at her, intercepting her movement towards the Diamond Wolf.

Cheng Xiu used the other hand's dagger to slash at the wolf's open mouth.

It whined at the pain and backed away.

The other wolves growled at her even more at that moment.

Cheng Xiu glared and then raised the two daggers, the tip pointed outwards, ready to fight harder.

The wolves dashed towards her as one.

Cheng Xiu ran towards them at full speed, a plan forming in her mind.

At the last moment, just as the wolves were about to reach her, Cheng Xiu ran towards the circle.

The wolves ran after her at full speed as well.

Cheng Xiu was briefly amazed by the fact that she could outrun the Dire wolves.

Sure, they were low-level beasts in the game, but in reality, she would not be able to run away from even common dogs, let alone the Dire Wolves.

It made her appreciate the Other World's mechanics even more.

She started to observe the wolves and their movements as she ducked away from claws, twisted away from poisonous teeth, and dodged leaping bodies.

The Green Wolf was the fastest, it reached her figure faster than the other wolves.

The yellow wolf was stronger, as its attacks left large indentations on the ruined stone floor.

The Red Wolf had the most stamina, as it would continue to attack her even when the others were waiting to catch their breath.

It also made Cheng Xiu realise that the Diamond Wolf, the one that had returned from the dead, was the smartest of the bunch. She wondered if its death gave it that ability. After all, death changes things. IT could change even the happiest of person, let alone an animal.

Her eyes fell on the diamond on its forehead. It might also be that the diamond was the source of its intelligence, and it got that as a bonus for dying and then returning to the world of the living.

There was a reason that Cheng Xiu was considering the abilities of the undead Wolf more than the other wolves.

In battles, the one she had to fear was not the soldiers but the king, and in the Quarter Wolf pack, the one with the Diamond on its forehead was the king. The pack leader.

She was surprised that she was able to use human tactics against the beast and use the analysing skill that she kept exclusively for the humans towards the said beast, but not overly concerned.

She was not conservative or egoistic enough to believe that human minds are superior.

But Cheng Xiu knew that she could outsmart this particular beast. After all, its intelligence was borrowed, and in the end, it still relied on its baser instinct.

Cheng Xiu smirked as the beast leapt towards her.
