VRMMORPG: The Other World Online

Chapter 140 - Unwanted Egotists

Cheng Xiu looked towards the woman who had San Zhe in her grasp.

"Please release my friend."

The woman stared at Cheng Xiu with a crooked smile. "Or else?"

Cheng Xiu raised her sword. Though she did not know the level of the NPC in front of her, she still could not let the woman do anything she wanted to her friend without his consent.

The sword copies flew in the air towards the woman.

She looked at the incoming weapons with a twisted smile on her face.

Cheng Xiu tried not to think about the reason why the woman was not even a smidge worried about the swords and concentrated on attacking the woman.

The woman laughed as she jumped this way and that, taking San Zhe with her.

Cheng Xiu used the tree trunks of the sturdy trees around her and jumped onto the branch that the two people were standing on before.

The branch shook under her weight, threatening to break off at any moment.

Cheng Xiu looked up and found the woman and San Zhe missing again.

She gritted her teeth in frustration and called back the sword copies. She was not able to save her friend even though she had been so close to him.

Cheng Xiu jumped from moe branch to the other as she moved towards the centre of the forest, hoping to find her friend soon.

She was surprised that she did not see any creatures in her journey. Not even the Flying Squirrels. But did prove one point, that NPC woman was a special existence in the game.

There was boisterous laughter from under her.

Cheng Xiu looked down and found herself being surprised.

She knew the man who was looking up at her and laughing.

She was never as happy about wearing a mask as she was at that moment.

A man looked up at her with blue spiked hair.

"Do you need any help miss?" the man asked. "I am DaoRen, the vice leader of the Blue battalion."

Cheng Xiu gritted her teeth. Of all the people that she had to meet, it was this fool. Cheng Xiu decided that the best action that she could do was ignore the man and try to find her friend at the moment.

She looked around, trying to find out if there was any clue as to which direction that woman had taken San Zhe.

"Are you looking for something?" Ren Dao asked the masked lady above him.

Cheng Xiu ignored the man.

Nothing. There was nothing. There was no clue at all as to which direction they had travelled.

"Or are you looking for someone," Ren Dao asked.

There were sounds of footsteps in the forest.

Cheng Xiu frowned and looked down to find that five more people had entered the place while she was busy looking for clues.

"Captain," Ren Dao said in a meek voice.

"What is the situation?" a gruff voice asked.

Cheng Xiu was curious about the fact that there was someone even that arrogant man would respect but did not think the information was important to her at the moment and so naturally did not give their discussion any attention.

"Are you looking for a masked man in blue robes being carried away by a beautiful lady or are you looking for the man in a black and golden mask who is fighting an NPC?" the gruff voice of the captain asked her.

Cheng Xiu froze.

She looked down.

The captain of Ren Dao's team was a middle-aged man with a sturdy body. His muscular form was exposed almost completely with only his crotch area being covered by a cloth. His body glistened like it was waxed and he held a war-hammer on his back.

Cheng Xiu had to force herself not to keep staring. Though she wore a mask, the chances of the man not noticing her stare were low as he was a player of a higher level.

Cheng Xiu nodded towards him.

"Which is it?" he asked in an annoyed tone.

"Both," Cheng Xiu said, her voice a pitch lower so as to make it less obvious what she actually sounded like.

Ren Dao gaped at her. "So what are you guys? The Masked Heroes?"

Cheng Xiu rolled her eyes. She ignored his presence and looked towards the captain of the team. "Where are they?"

The captain smiled.

Cheng Xiu felt her heart tremble as she had a bad premonition.

"Information is key," the man said. "It is valuable."

"What do you want?" Cheng Xiu asked. She knew the kind of conversation this was turning out to be and was not really sure how to react to the situation if her guesses were correct.

The man looked at the weapon in her hand. "Your sword."

Cheng Xiu frowned. "Aren't you using a war hammer already? And it looks like a high grade on as well."

The man laughed. "It is not for me, it is for our guild leader."

The player behind him frowned. "That sword of hers…"

Cheng Xiu froze. She had made sure to change everything about herself to hide her identity but she had forgotten the most important part. A person's identity in the game was not just their costume…their skillset and their weapons were also included.

The captain looked at her with a considering eye as he realised that the weapon in her hand really was familiar to them.

"Who are you?" the man asked.

Cheng Xiu pursed her lips. She did not like the fact that she had made such a huge blunder.

"Well?" the player who had observed her sword from before called out.

Cheng Xiu wished she could create a sword copy to send it towards the man's heart. The only thing staying in her hand at that time was the fact that her using that technique would cement the guess in their minds.

Cheng Xiu scoffed. "Why should I tell you anything?"

"That seems very suspicious," the captain said. "Don't you want to know where your companions are?"

"What does my identity have to do with my companions?"

The man smirked. "It is to make sure that you are not their actual enemy of course."

Cheng Xiu scoffed in disbelief. "Are you serious? Do these kinds of kindergarten tricks actually work on the people in this game?"

The man frowned at the absolute derision and contempt in the girl's tone.. Sure, the excuse he used was not the best, but she should have recognised that he was not someone she should trifle with.
