Where Secrets Lie

Chapter 68:Second Nature

Logan walked over to an intercom near the front door, "It's all about sheer will and control." He pushed the little black button then spoke into the box, "We're ready." Moments later, a girl entered their room. She was an employee as she wore an Immortal shirt and black jeans. The red-haired girl looked between the two of them and smiled. "Who am I feeding?" she asked. "Both?"

Logan motioned the girl toward Alyssa, "She's a newborn vampire; therefore, I'm teaching her. I won't let her kill you."

"No problem," the girl said stepping forward. She stood in front of Alyssa and swept her fiery hair to the side revealing her neck.

Alyssa eyed her veins, but hesitated, taking a big gulp.

Logan approached the two women, "It's okay. Go ahead."

Alyssa agreed with a nod then bit into the flesh of her neck. Her blood trickled down as Alyssa drank and drank. Logan stood there, counting down the seconds. After a minute, he instructed her to stop. She didn't. Instead, she pulled the girl closer to her, her hunger enhancing by the second.

Logan moved in front, where she could see him. "Alyssa, stop." He spoke calmly as to not agitate her, which would only cause her to become more violent. Alyssa's lips remained, blood still flowing. "Alyssa!" Logan's voice raised by an octave, his voice getting through to her this time.

She retracted her fangs quickly and backed away "I'm sorry," she said wiping her mouth with her sleeve.

"It's not the worst I've experienced," she said holding her neck. "Do you need more?" she asked, grabbing a napkin from the table. She wiped the blood off her hand and neck.

Alyssa shook her head from side to side, "No..." she could actually concentrate because her stomach wasn't rumbling from starvation. "...I think I'm good. Thank you."

The girl smiled, "No problem." She looked to Logan, "Call me if you need anything." She placed a quick hand on his chest then turned to leave. "Don't be a stranger, Logan," she replied as she disappeared through the door.

"How do you know her?" Alyssa asked with concerning eyes.

Logan chuckled as he closed the door shut. He could always tell when Alyssa was jealous. He was happy that she was able to focus on something other than eating. "She's been here for years. I use to drink from her quite often in the past."

She glanced around the apartment, looking for anything belonging to a woman, "So, do you have a girlfriend?" She spoke up again before he could respond. "It's okay if you do. You thought I was dead..." she trailed off, looking disheartened.

Logan brushed his hand along her jaw to raise her head. He looked into her eyes with a loving gaze then placed his lips on hers, kissing her as if he was making up for lost time. "When I said to be mine forever, I meant forever Alyssa." He put his hand to his chest in faux pain, "You think I would move on in a few months? How you wound me." She simply smiled at him, drinking in this moment. It was nice to feel another emotion other than fear.

"Joking aside, you did great. I thought I would have to pull you off her for sure. That was a good first step."

"When can I see Kara?" She said, sitting on the edge of the deep blue sofa.

"It's not safe until your thirst is under control. If you go back now, you could do even more damage," Logan explained. " We are going to repeat this every few hours until it's like second nature to you."

A week had passed and Alyssa was on her 36th meal, some servants going more than once. She almost had the hunger completely under control and had put off asking Logan to see Kara all week, but she couldn't stand it any longer.

"So, do you think I can see my sister now? I've got it down."

Logan paused for a minute with a look of concern on his face. He longed to give Alyssa what she wanted. However, he still wasn't sure if she was ready, and she would regret it for the rest of her long life if she did anything to hurt Kara. "I disagree. I don't think you're quite ready yet." He walked toward the door.

"Well, what more do you want from me? I have easily drunk from the last eight girls. I can do this in my sleep!" Alyssa said in frustration, blowing her chestnut hair out of her face.

"Indulge me," Logan said as he opened the door to let the next servant in.

Alyssa stood there with her arms crossed, looking up at the ceiling. She'd become irritated and was going to prove that she had mastered her hunger. Alyssa snatched the girl and plunged her teeth deep into her neck. The servant let out a sharp, pained gasp as Alyssa took her frustration out on her.

"Alyssa, stop!" Logan shouted.

She yanked her teeth from the servant and shoved her away. "Are you happy now?"

"Well, you didn't have to go that far. You could've really hurt her." Alyssa gave him an impatient look. "Okay, you're ready. But can you blame me?" Alyssa's eyebrows crumpled in confusion. Logan pulled her close to him, his hands traveling over her body, "For wanting you all to myself?"

Alyssa exasperation quickly faded, "We have plenty of time for that," she said, shoving him away playfully.

Logan grabbed her arm and placed a tender kiss to the back of her hand. He looked up, his green eyes meeting hers, "All eternity."
