If you gift a child a hamster, you be better be prepared for the eventual day the child is devastated by its death.

(Or you could be the kind of person to secretly replace the hamster on that inevitable day)

Hamsters live a few years at most so they most definitely will die relatively soon, but other than that, they're great pets.
