Chapter 280 Teaching the Fa

Going up again, you will arrive at the Wanshou Pavilion.

Wanshou Pavilion is a archway-style building with a wood and stone structure. What Li Junge is most interested in is its unique double-eaved and gabled roof.

Everyone stopped to watch, and in the middle of the room stood the "Fawang Temple Memorial Grace Stele", which was more than three meters high and one meter wide, with the word "imperial decree" engraved on the forehead.

There is a wooden carved fence on the main floor. The back wall is painted with ink landscape and figure paintings, and in the middle of the eaves is a hollowed-out Kowloon tablet with the words "Long live the current emperor, long live, long live".

Li Junge laughed to himself, the word "today" is really a wonderful use.

The entire pavilion is ingeniously conceived, with exquisite wood carvings and vivid paintings. It perfectly combines architectural art with wood carvings and colored paintings, which amazed the whole group.

In the old days, when I saw the imperial decree stele and the Kowloon tablet, it was necessary for civil officials to dismount from the sedan chair and military officials to dismount, kneeling three times and knocking nine times.

Then pass through the courtyard dam, the hatchback is the wing room, and the main building of Fawang Temple - the Daxiong Hall is right in front of it.

Master Guoshan said: "The hall was rebuilt in the seventh year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty. It has a wood and stone structure, five rooms wide, three rooms deep, and a height of 15 meters. There are seven steps on the path, and the building area is 570 square meters."

The Buddha statue of Sakyamuni is enshrined in the Daxiong Hall. Behind the statues are Avalokitesvara, Manjusri and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. The statues are solemn and beautiful, and the artistic characteristics of Buddhist stone carvings in southern Sichuan can be clearly seen.

A group of people paid respects and offered incense again, and Li Junge continued to study ancient buildings.

The outsider watches the excitement, while the insider looks at the doorway. In the eyes of Li Junge, the roof of the Daxiong Palace is a double eaves Xieshan style.

Gray tiles are used on the roof, orbs and curly grass patterns are molded in the center of the ridge, and dragons are molded on both sides, especially the wood carvings on the eaves and pillars of the main hall, such as kissing beasts, drama characters, auspicious beasts, etc., are exquisitely shaped and breathtaking.

From the perspective of wood carving techniques, the hollow wood carvings are between the vertical ridge and the bucket arch, and the octagons are raised and slender, giving people a visual artistic sense of lightness and soaring.

Nodding secretly in my heart, when will I have to ask my mentor to come again? The ancient buildings here echo the ancient buildings in Panao Township and the ancestral hall in Lijiagou. They run through the four dynasties of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. of.

Further on is the last hall of Fawang Temple, the Sutra Library, which was built in the 17th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty. Five rooms.

Master Guoshan led the crowd to look at the scripture building, and introduced: "Generally, there is nothing to say about the scripture building in monasteries. The first room is a hall, and the second room is a monk's house, that's all."

"Keep Fawang Temple's Buddhist scripture building was built to enshrine the 'Qinci Longzang', which is unusual."

"The "Dragon Canon", that is, the "Qianlong Edition Tripitaka", was the only Chinese version of the Tripitaka issued and printed by the imperial court in the Qing Dynasty."

"Because Yongzheng initiated the engraving and printing, and it was not completed until Qianlong. After two generations of emperors, it got its name. The Longzang Sutra is printed with engraving instead of movable type, which also shows its solemnity and hopes to pass it on for a long time."

"The "Dragon Canon" has a total of 720 four volumes and 160 eight volumes, which are stored in these twelve Sutra cabinets."

Looking around at Li Junge, the five-clawed dragon with auspicious clouds carved on the scripture cabinet shows the royal grace and elegance, but it also appears in this remote mountain village. Combined with the vivid shapes carved on the pillars and fans in this hall, it has a unique style. The typical Sichuan opera eye-painting art features dramatic character story paintings, and the taste in them is also worth savoring carefully.

After watching the Sutra Library, the group came out from the Daxiong Hall again.

Master Guoshan led the way and led the group to the meditation hall for tea.

Except for the cups, the whole tea set is a coal sander, which is very distinctive.

Li Junge said in surprise: "Master Guoshan, your tea set is quite unique."

Master Guoshan said with a smile: "I have adapted to local conditions, a specialty of Baimi Township at the foot of the mountain."

Light the pine cone charcoal in the charcoal stove, Master Guoshan burns a small pot of mountain spring water in a coal sand pot, then takes out a bamboo tube, picks up a bamboo slice, scoops out some tea leaves from the inside, and puts them into a small sand pot with a lid Inside.

When the spring water started to bubble, Master Guoshan poured hot water into the teacups, covered them, placed several small white porcelain cups, and began to distribute tea to everyone.

The room was full of fragrance, Guoshan served tea to everyone, Li Junge took a sip and praised: "It's delicious! What kind of tea is this?"

Master Guoshan said with a smile: "Our Fawang Temple is of the same line and advocates the unity of agriculture and Zen. The tea is grown, picked and fried by ourselves. Even the pine nuts for the tea are burned by ourselves, including The daily rice and vegetables for our five monks are all grown by ourselves.”

Li Junge praised: "This is the real practitioner! The rules of your Fawang Temple are also in line with our Confucianism. 'The four bodies are not diligent, and the five grains are not distinguished. Who is the master?" Hahaha, Confucius also asked Ask the old farmer how to harvest crops."

After speaking, I opened my mind and thought of a question: "By the way, Master Guoshan, I have always had a question that I can't figure out. I haven't met a real monk and I can't ask about it. When I met you, I remembered it again."

Master Guoshan smiled and said, "Say it."

Li Junge scratched his forehead and said, "I'm not being rude, I'm just curious. I just want to ask, if this egg hasn't been fertilized, it shouldn't be considered life, right? Then eating it shouldn't be considered killing. In this way , Can Buddhists eat eggs? And milk, goat's milk, is it okay?"

I heard grandma, father and mother reprimanding together: "Nonsense!" "Nonsense!" "Hurry up and apologize to the master!"

Master Guoshan laughed and waved his hands: "Piwa asked a very good question, you believers should also listen to it."

After finishing speaking, he poured another cup of tea for everyone, and said patiently: "About whether monks can eat eggs, there was a debate on this issue as early as the Jin Dynasty. I can only tell you based on my practice experience."

"First of all, what is the principle of not killing. In the Buddhist scriptures and precepts, the World Honored One has made it very clear that Buddhist disciples uphold the precept of 'not killing', which is compassion for all sentient beings."

"Remember, abstaining from killing is a precept, and cultivating a 'great compassion' that is compassionate to all sentient beings is the foundation."

"The ancient monks practiced the system of begging bowls. When begging for bowls, the vegetarians could eat whatever they offered, without discrimination. Now Thailand, Ceylon and other Hinayana Buddhist countries still maintain the begging bowl system."

"In Mahayana Buddhist countries, such as China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and other regions, monks no longer beg for alms. However, in ancient times, there was a shortage of materials, so we can't be picky. Therefore, the meat of the three cleans can be eaten when it is a last resort."

"The three clean meats refer to those who don't see killing, don't hear about killing, and don't kill for me. This is what the usual vegetarians offer. Sometimes because they are practicing in the mountains, there is always a lack of food. Therefore, the Buddha added The above two types: one is 'bird remnant', that is, the animal meat left over from birds and beasts eating; the other is 'self-death', which is dead by oneself. Collectively known as 'five clean meat'"

"Remember the second concept, the premise of eating 'five clean meat' is 'unavoidable'."

"It is said that Emperor Wu of Liang read the "Langa Sutra", which said, 'Bodhisattvas are merciful and merciful, and cannot bear to eat the flesh of all living beings'. He was very moved after reading it, and he vowed to eat long-term vegetarians. He is the great protector of Buddhism, and he promotes it with the dignity of an emperor' Vegetarianism' soon affected the entire Sangha community in China. This movement was very successful, and not only monks accepted it, but lay believers also accepted it, forming this characteristic of Chinese Buddhism."

"Remember, there is another key word here, 'unbearable'."

"Next let's talk about meat and vegetables. Hun does not refer to meat. Meat has a separate word called "Xiang".Garlic, onion, green onion, green onion, and Xingqu are the five spices, and meat is these five kinds of vegetables. This is because Buddhism abstains from all carnal enjoyment, and vegetables with strong smell are also a kind of enjoyment, so they need to be abstained .The saying 'not to touch meat' is actually two precepts."

"Knowing these concepts, let's talk about Buddhism. What is the root of Buddhism? It is to protect the 'pure mind', 'equality mind', and 'great compassion'."

"Let's talk about eggs and milk. Eggs are produced by chickens, and milk is produced by cows to feed calves. I don't eat them because I doubt they are alive. If I eat them, I will violate the precept of killing. Because I can't bear it myself, I don't eat."

"Although the chicken may forget after laying the egg, and the cow doesn't know what the milk is used for, but because of 'I', 'I can't bear it', so I still don't eat."

"In the same way, although it was originally stipulated that Buddhists should not eat five spices, then chili, pepper and the like are fine? Now that we understand that the purpose of abstaining from five spices is to abstain from carnal pleasures, should we eat them? Afterwards, those things became obvious."

Li Junge Heshi said: "Understood, the 'cautious independence' in the classics of the sages, the Li family's family motto of 'respect the ancestors, but think about your own affairs', have something in common with the truth you said, master."

Master Guoshan nodded in satisfaction and said, "Hahaha, it's really easy to talk to you! The reason just now is the other way around. If a Buddhist, in order to be able to eat eggs and milk, studies whether unfertilized eggs are life, drink Whether the milk is considered fishy or not, this in itself has run counter to the purpose of cultivating 'great compassion'."

After finishing speaking, he waved his hands to grandma Liangzi and the others: "Of course, these are just my own requirements. I will not force believers to refrain from meat and fish. If the cultivation base is not enough, if you forcefully observe the precepts, you will develop a 'resentment' instead. This is not only not progress, but a huge step backward."

Both grandma and Liangzi are very kind.

Master Guoshan then said to Li Junge: "The Mahayana scriptures claim that all things can be changed through power. If there is no high degree of power and wisdom, how can we spread Buddhism and benefit all sentient beings?"

"Therefore, to spread the Dharma and benefit living beings, one must 'observe the opportunity' and understand the era and the nature of all beings. This is why I pay attention to current affairs and the development of your Lijiagou."
