Chapter 9 Escape
Reinhardt lay on the floor, listening to the noise above his head.

There seemed to be a battle going on above their heads.

The adventure team left the tavern first, led by the middle-aged gentleman. They were all baits.

"We've been exposed. I was ambushed on my way to retrieve that thing."

Not long ago, in this small room in the basement of the tavern, the middle-aged gentleman was explaining the current situation to the girl and the adventuring team.

"The troops that ambushed me were using standard equipment. This city is no longer safe for us..."

The wizard at the side suddenly spoke, interrupting the middle-aged gentleman.

"Sir, the familiar I left outside the tavern saw the city guards approaching, and it seemed that they were going to surround the tavern."

The wizard frowned.

"The connection with the familiar has been severed."

Behind the door is a long corridor.

"What you need to care about is not my identity, but your mission."

After leaving these words, the middle-aged gentleman also stepped onto the stairs. Soon, the backs of the group disappeared from Reinhardt's sight.

"Excuse me, it would be safest for you to just drop me off at my destination, take my reward and leave."

Reinhardt also took a step and opened a small door inside the basement.

"It has already started over there, so we have to hurry."

"Speaking of which, who are you guys?"

"Teacher will lead those guys away, and there won't be any particular danger along the way."

The middle-aged gentleman pulled out a short sword from his bosom and looked at Reinhard and the girl beside him.

The footsteps of the two echoed in the corridor. After a long silence, Reinhardt finally couldn't help but speak.

The girl did not directly answer Reinhardt's question.

"But I don't know anything, so I can't prepare in advance to avoid possible dangers."

A foul smell came over him, almost knocking Reinhardt to the ground.

Reinhardt had to admit that the girl was right. He was only a fourth-level warrior. There seemed to be a huge whirlpool behind the mission in front of him. It was indeed the best option to get the money and leave as soon as possible.

"Time is running out. We will leave through the main gate to attract their attention. You will go underground and then head straight to the capital without stopping."

The sounds of fighting above had ended, but the shouting continued, and it sounded like the middle-aged gentleman and his men had escaped from the encirclement of the city guards.

"There's something fishy behind this experience. Be careful when you return."

The girl sighed.

At the end of the corridor was a sewer. Reinhardt frowned as he looked at the filth in the sewer that was deep enough to cover his ankles.

The members of the adventure team took out their weapons in silence and stepped onto the stairs leading upwards.

The corridor came to an end and Reinhardt pushed open the door.

Reinhardt really wanted to give up this mission now, but the advance payment had been received and the mission contract had been signed. Even if there was a dragon lying in front of him, he had to find a way to send the girl next to him to the royal capital.

"It's okay. There's a river not far from the city. You can just wash yourself there when the time comes."

There was a "plop" sound beside me.

"What are you doing standing still?"

While Reinhardt was still preparing himself mentally, the girl had already jumped lightly into the sewage below.

"Don't waste the time Master and the others are fighting for."

There was a hint of dissatisfaction in the girl's voice. Reinhardt could only take a step and fall into the sewage below like the girl.

The two men moved forward again.

The shouts of the city guards were getting farther and farther away, and the middle-aged gentleman deliberately led the city guards in another direction.

This gave Reinhardt and his duo some extra time, which was exactly what they needed.

"There's something wrong with these rats."

Reinhardt swung his sword and cut a flying rat in half.

They had not walked far in the sewer when they were besieged by a group of rats.

"Lower your head."

Reinhardt shrank his neck as a crossbow arrow grazed his scalp and hit a sneak attacking rat, pinning it to the wall.

"Don't stop, keep going."

The girl dodged several rats that pounced on her and loaded her crossbow.

The girl looked no more than thirteen years old, and most girls would have just said goodbye to playing house at this age.

The girl was already a Level 2 ranger, and judging from her skillful fighting skills, she had experienced many real battles.

Reinhardt used his shield to slap away two rats that were rushing towards the girl. The number of these rats seemed endless, and they would be completely overwhelmed sooner or later if this continued.

"They are not alive."

Reinhardt noticed the wounds on the rats, some of which had begun to rot. The rats that were nailed to the wall by the girl's crossbow arrows were still struggling, even though their heads had been pierced by the crossbow arrows.

"Cover me, five seconds."

Just as Reinhardt finished his words, two crossbow arrows brushed past his side and nailed the two rats to the wall.

Now that he knew the other party was an undead creature, it would be easy to deal with. Reinhardt took out the bottle of holy water on his belt, uncorked it, and sprinkled it on the swarm of rats gathering from all directions.

The rats that were contaminated by the holy water rolled over and soon met their true death, while the remaining rats began to retreat under the power of the holy water.

"Fortunately, I heard that there were undead troubles in this area, so I made some preparations."

Reinhardt stuffed the empty holy water bottle into his backpack. Holy water was the perfect way to deal with these weak but huge undead rats.

"Hurry up, what I bought is not high-end stuff, the effect can only last for ten minutes."

The two of them took a step forward and rushed towards the exit of the sewer.

"Why did so many of my pets die?"

Above Reinhardt and the others, a wailing sound came from a house in a corner of the city. The connection between a necromancer and his creation was severed.

"How can there be such a cruel person?"

The shrill voice made the soldiers around him frown, but no one dared to interrupt the fat man in the middle of the room.

"Using holy water is the worst possible behavior."

The fat man sat on a huge sedan chair, and four zombies lifted the sedan chair at his command.

"My Lord, you still have to..."

The fat man ignored the officers who stepped forward to stop them. The zombies slowly and firmly pushed away all obstacles, carrying the sedan chair, and disappeared into the darkness.

"No matter who it is, they have to pay the price."

The sharp voice echoed in the darkness, and the sedan chair and the man on it quickly disappeared from the soldiers' sight.

"How to do?"

They looked at each other, but in the end, no one stepped forward to stop it.

"Notify the lord, that fat pig is messing around again."

The officer stood up holding his shoulder, which was dislocated.

The zombie simply pushed him away and had no intention of attacking, but even so, it was able to injure a third-level warrior.

"Gotta stop that fat pig before he causes any big trouble."
