Chapter 33
The master said: I preached the Dharma in the Dafan Temple, so far, it has been copied and popularized, and it is called the Dharma Treasure Altar Sutra.You protect it, pass it on from generation to generation, and save all living beings.But according to this, it is a righteous law.Now, I will teach you the Dharma without paying for my clothes.Gai Weiru and others have a solid foundation of faith, no doubt about their decisions, and they are worthy of great affairs.However, according to the ancestor Bodhidharma, Fu taught the meaning of the gatha, and the clothes were not suitable for passing on.The verse says:
I am originally from the soil, teaching the Dharma to save the lost love ①;
One flower blooms five leaves②, and the result will come naturally.

Master Huineng said: "I preached in Dafan Temple. Up to now, the content of my speech has been copied and widely circulated. Its name is "Dharma Treasure Altar Sutra". Take good care of it, and pass it on to each other step by step. To save people’s lives. According to this statement, it is the real Dharma. I am teaching you the Dharma now, and I no longer give you cassocks, because you are all familiar with the roots of faith, righteous concentration and no doubts, and you can be worthy of the great task of propagating the Dharma. And according to the meaning of the gatha taught by the Patriarch Bodhidharma, the robes and cassocks should not be passed on." The gatha said:
I am originally from the land, to teach the Dharma to save the lost love;
One flower blooms five leaves, and the result will come naturally.

The teacher replied: All good advisors!All of you should purify your minds and listen to my Dharma.If you want to achieve the kind of wisdom①, you must achieve the one-phase samadhi, one-line samadhi②.If you don’t live with appearance in any place, don’t generate hatred or love in that appearance, and don’t choose or reject, don’t think about profit or loss, etc., and you are at peace and quiet, emptiness and indifference, this is called one-phase samadhi.If you walk, stand, sit, and lie down in any place, with a pure and straight mind, without moving the Taoist field, you will truly become a pure land. This is called the Samadhi of one practice.If a person possesses two samadhis, like a seed in the ground, which is stored and cultivated, matures and matures, and has one form and one action, the same is true.
My Dharma today is like the rain from time to time, nourishing the earth.Your Buddha-nature is like all kinds of seeds, when they come into contact with you, they will all come into being.Those who follow my decree will surely obtain Bodhi; those who follow my practice will surely prove the wonderful fruit.Listen to my verse:
The heart contains all kinds, and all the rains are sprouting, and the sudden enlightenment of the flower is already complete, and the fruit of Bodhi is self-fulfilling.
The master said the gatha, saying: There is no difference in his dharma, and so is his mind.Its way is pure, and there are no appearances.Be careful not to contemplate stillness, and to empty your mind.This heart is pure, there is no choice, each work hard, go with the fate.
At that time, all the disciples bowed and retreated.

"My Dharma now is like timely rain, which generally moistens the earth. Your Buddha nature is like seeds, which can germinate and grow when they are moistened by timely rain. Those who inherit my purpose will surely realize the wisdom of Bodhi; Those who practice the teachings of the Buddha will definitely realize the wonderful fruit of the Buddha's way. Listen to my gatha." The gatha said:
There are all kinds of heart and earth, and all the rain is sprouting.
The epiphany of Huaqing is complete, and the Bodhi fruit is self-contained.
After finishing the verse, Master Huineng said: "Buddhism is not two dharmas, and so is the original mind. The Buddha's way is pure, without all appearances. You must be careful, and don't be attached to the quiet and empty mind. The original mind is pure. The crowd said: Master will go from now on, will he return sooner or later?
The master said: When a leaf falls and returns to its root, it comes without a mouth.
He asked again, "To whom should I pass on the Zhengfayanzang?"
The teacher said: Those who have the way will gain it, and those who have no heart will understand it.
Ask again: Is there any difficulty in the future?
The master said: Five or six years after my death, someone should come to take my head.Listen to my diary: If you raise relatives on your head, you must eat in your mouth;
It is also said: 70 years ago, there were two Bodhisattvas ③ from the east. One became a monk and the other was a layman.
Question: I don't know how many generations the Buddha should have been taught since then?Willing to hang down.
The teacher said: The ancient Buddhas have come into the world, and they are innumerable and incalculable.Starting with the seven Buddhas today, the adorned kalpas in the past are: Vipassin Buddha, Shiqi Buddha, and Visabhu Buddha.Today's sage kalpa: Detain Sun Buddha, Kanagamuni Buddha, Kassapa Buddha, and Sakyamuni Buddha, these are the seven Buddhas.The seven Buddhas have been ascended, and now it is the first biography of Sakyamuni Buddha.The first is the Venerable Maha Kasyapa, the second is the Venerable Ananda, the third is the Venerable Shanna Hexiu, the fourth is the Venerable Upawanta, the fifth is the Venerable Tituka, and the sixth is the Miracle. The disciples begged bitterly and resolutely persuaded him to stay.
Master Huineng said: "When all Buddhas appear, they will indicate Nirvana. If they come, they will go. The principle should be like this. My body and skeleton should also go back."
The disciples said: "Will the master come back sooner or later after he leaves today?"
Master Huineng said: "Falling leaves return to their roots, I have not spoken much in my life."
The disciple asked again: "Buddhist Dharma, who will the master pass on to?"
Master Huineng said: "Those who have realized the Buddha way will get it, and those who have no attachments will understand it."
The disciple asked again: "Will there be disasters in the future?"
Master Huineng said: "Five or six years after my death, a person should come to take my head. Listen to my gatha: The head supports relatives, but the mouth needs food. In case of difficulties, the willow will be an official. "
Master Huineng also said: "Seventy years after my death, two Bodhisattvas came from the east, one was a monk and the other was a layman. .”
The disciples asked: "I don't know how many generations have been taught since the first Buddha appeared? I hope the master will give a teaching."
