Chapter 2 How to be a Competent Boss - Basic Common Sense and Elements of Management (2)

[-]. How to implement the care for employees
1. Caring for employees starts with law-abiding

This one is very simple to say, and it is also the most basic requirement for business owners (commonly known as "bosses"), but in real life, many bosses fail to do so.

(1) Sign a formal labor contract with employees

Many bosses regard labor contracts as unilateral constraints on themselves and are unwilling to sign with employees. In fact, this understanding is one-sided.

First of all, the labor relationship is the relationship between employment and being hired. It is not marked by whether the labor and management have signed a labor contract, but only whether there is an objective act of hiring and being hired is used as a judgment criterion.

Secondly, the labor contract has equal legal effect on both employers and employees, and can simultaneously restrict the rights and obligations of both parties.For example, for some content involving commercial secrets, the boss can prevent the disclosure of commercial secrets by entering into a confidentiality clause in the labor contract.In the event of infringement, the boss can claim compensation from the employee according to the agreement to reduce losses.In addition, signing non-competition clauses between bosses and employees can effectively prevent employees from maliciously changing jobs and causing huge economic losses to their own companies.

(2) Handling various insurances for employees
Handling various social insurances for employees is also a mandatory requirement of the law.To run a business, you must assume corresponding social responsibilities. Employees work for your company, and the company should be responsible for their medical care, housing, and future pensions.

In addition to the above-mentioned social insurance, the boss should purchase insurance for employees, as well as commercial insurance, which mainly refers to personal accident insurance.Enterprises that focus on production must not save money on this, otherwise they will suffer big losses if they are greedy for petty gains.

Case story:

Liu Tian is the owner of a wrought iron factory. His factory produces a variety of wrought iron products, such as building balconies, window fences, garden wrought iron gates, and building wrought iron doors.

Liu Tian's company has six permanent employees, and even recruits some temporary workers when busy.Not only did Liu Tian not sign a labor contract with any of the employees, he also did not apply for personal accident insurance for them.Boss Liu, who was busy making money and at the same time had a fluke mentality, finally encountered a bad luck.

18-year-old temporary worker Xiao Cao injured four fingers of his left hand by a flower bending machine due to improper operation at work.Liu Tian paid all the medical expenses for Xiao Cao, and planned to pay Xiao Cao 5 yuan to settle the matter.However, Xiao Cao and his family did not do it, because Xiao Cao has actually lost a certain amount of labor ability, and it will definitely affect practical issues such as choosing a spouse in the future. Cao's family filed a lawsuit in the court of Liu Tian's area.

Although no labor contract was signed, the court ultimately ruled that Liu Tian should pay Xiao Cao 8 yuan in one lump sum based on the facts.This lesson was painful. Liu Tian's small factory was not well funded, and the blow made it worse. Liu Tian had to borrow money everywhere to pay the compensation.

If Liu Tian bought accident insurance for his employees, a large part of the compensation would be borne by the insurance company.

2. Caring for employees should start from the basics

What is the most basic obligation that the boss must fulfill to the employees?It is to pay employees' wages on time and as agreed.Does every boss do this in real life?No.

The bosses in some enterprises have been in arrears or even withheld employees' wages.A few years ago, the incident of migrant workers asking for wages was exposed. It was really shocking to watch.recent years
, with the increasing improvement of laws and regulations, the legal awareness of bosses and employees is increasing, and the situation of wage arrears has improved significantly.More and more bosses are clearly aware that paying wages in full and on time can stabilize the workforce and enhance their sense of belonging, thereby stimulating their potential, fulfilling their responsibilities for the company, and creating greater value.

3. Caring for employees should start with small things and details

Here we introduce some specific practices that reflect the care for employees.

(1) When encountering special circumstances or employees have difficulties, express understanding and care

Even if the company has a strict working system, if the employees are late for work due to traffic jams in the city due to bad weather, the boss must not be too fussy;
The employee is sick and hospitalized, you have to find time to visit in person;
If someone in the employee's family is sick, you should ask more questions and take the initiative to give him an extra day or two of personal leave.

(2) Remember the employee's birthday and express it
Don't ignore the employee's birthday, you can give him (or her) a small birthday cake or a delicate little souvenir, and say some words of blessing and thanks to him (or her).

Note that if the company is small, the birthday cake or small gifts must be sent by the boss himself.If the company is relatively large, you can arrange some activities on a monthly basis for all employees who have birthdays in the same month.

(3) Spread love to relatives of employees

During my investigation in Japan, I learned that once young people get married, the wife usually quits her job immediately and becomes a housewife, taking on the trivial tasks of raising children and running the house, while the husband works outside to earn money to support the family.Many Japanese companies have such a tradition, that is, the boss of the company will have a banquet for the wives of all married employees at the end of the year. The woman who complained behind the scenes and supported her husband's career expressed his heartfelt thanks.

In Chinese families, both husband and wife usually have to go to work, and there are seniors on the top and young ones on the bottom, so both parties are under great pressure.Have bosses ever thought of thanking the significant other of their married employees?If not, then please start now!

In addition to remembering the employee's birthday as mentioned above, the boss should also keep in mind some days that are particularly commemorative to the employee and express them.For example, birthdays of employees' children, especially those who are minors.

Comments: There are many principles and practices. It is not enough for us to just know. The key is to do it.Whether the business of an enterprise can develop smoothly and the relationship between labor and capital can be harmonious, the key depends on whether the boss's care for employees has been implemented.
