Life is but a thought: Nan Huaijin's 15 Life Wisdom Lessons

Chapter 29 The game between one person and one group of people

Chapter 29 The game between one person and a group of people (2)
Work without complaining.Generally speaking, if you ask others to do a very hard job, people will complain. But if you achieve the above point of "benefit without cost", you can make people get rid of this kind of complaining mentality and do things willingly. On the other hand, it also reminds leaders to be sympathetic to others, so that people can use human resources in a timely manner, and it can also eliminate people's complaints.

Thai but not proud.Even though a leader is in a high position, he should not have the proud thought of being "superior to others". Instead, no matter how many things he has to do, no matter how big or small the matter is, he must not dare to be negligent, be loyal, dedicated, and cautious in handling affairs, so as to ensure the stability of his position. Only then can we lead the whole team to glory.

Desire but not greed.Everyone has desires. As I have said before, it is too difficult to have no desires and desires. It is better to have less selfish desires. Therefore, if a leader can be honest and know how to restrain his desires, he will not have greed for fame and fortune, and he will not do things that harm others and eventually himself.

Powerful but not fierce.A leader should not put on a dignified face in order to show his "authority".You must know that a person's real "prestige" lies in his words and deeds, not in his expressions and words.Of course, Wei doesn't mean to be fierce, nor does it mean to make people feel scared, but to make people feel awe and respect. If "Wei" is scary, that's bad.

Simply put, the "four evils" can also be understood in this way.

Killing without teaching is called cruelty.Punishment without enlightenment is called tyranny. This means that after a leader formulates a policy, he must first publicize it widely among the public so that they understand that this behavior is prohibited.Under such circumstances, when people make mistakes, they do so knowingly, and he cannot use the reason of "one who does not know is not guilty" to refuse punishment.

Slow orders are called thieves. If a leader only cares about the purpose when doing things, does not use unscrupulous means, treats the law as a joke, and does not follow the rules, it will greatly damage his own prestige and make his subordinates lose confidence in you and his team. This is the performance of a thief.

Don't look down on so-called violence. It is called arrogance to require subordinates to meet their own requirements without clearly specifying the responsibilities of subordinates and without providing necessary training to subordinates. When a leader assigns tasks to his subordinates, he should clearly tell his subordinates what you want him to do, how much to do, and to what extent, instead of focusing only on the results and ignoring the process.

Just like with others, the stinginess of the cashier is called a department. Some leaders blindly ask others to do all kinds of trivial things, wishing that the other party has the skill of splitting up, and when others have finished, they only give small rewards, which makes others feel that their efforts are not equal to their rewards. , but also want the horse not to eat grass" typical behavior.Over time, people's hearts will always dissipate, and their status will also be lost.

In short, if a leader can keep in mind the leadership philosophy of Confucius' "five beauties" and "four evils", and is determined to work hard in this direction, he will be a good leader and bring out a harmonious and motivated team.

Correctness in itself is the beginning of good management

If you want others to do it, you must first do it yourself; if you don't allow others to do it, you must not do it yourself.Only in this way can we truly exert our influence and shape a first-class team.

In the "Analects of Confucius", there is such a sentence - Zi said: "If you have to straighten your body, what is the use of politics? If you can't straighten your body, how can you be a righteous person?" That is to say, a politician is also righteous, and only by rectifying oneself can one be righteous. .If you can't uprightly set an example, how can you upright others?
Mr. Nan Huaijin explained that if he is fair, it is of course good to go into politics, needless to say.During the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Cao was once known as "a capable minister who governs the world, and a traitor in troubled times".For his evaluation, there have always been mixed praises and criticisms, each with its own opinion. However, no matter whether his merits outweigh his demerits or his demerits outweigh his merits, he does have his own management talents in governing the country and the army.

When the wheat is ripe, Cao Cao leads the team to fight and will pass through some villages. The people along the way hid outside the village out of fear of the soldiers, and no one dared to go home to harvest wheat. After Cao Cao knew about it, he immediately sent people from house to house to tell the people and the officials guarding the border everywhere that the troops he led were only ordered to send troops to fight against the rebels and eliminate harm for the people, and they would not do anything to disturb the people. It is the time of wheat harvest. , If a soldier tramples on a wheat field, he will be beheaded immediately to show the public, as a warning to others.Hearing this, the people were still suspicious, and they all hid in the dark to observe the actions of Cao Cao's army.

When Cao Cao’s officers and soldiers passed by the wheat field, they all got off their horses and supported the wheat stalks with their hands. One by one, they passed each other through the wheat field. No one trampled on the wheat. When the people saw it, they all gave their thumbs up. commend.

However, when Cao Cao rode his horse through the wheat field, a bird flew up in the field, which frightened his horse and rushed into the wheat field at once, trampling a piece of wheat field. In order to convince the crowd, Cao Cao immediately summoned the accompanying officials and demanded that he be punished for trampling on the wheat field.

The official said: "How can you punish the prime minister?"

Cao Cao said: "If I don't keep what I say, who else will obey it willingly? How can a person who doesn't keep his promise command thousands of soldiers?" Saber pretended to kill himself.

The soldiers hurried forward to stop them, and one of them stepped forward and said: "The ancient book "Spring and Autumn" says that the law is not respected. The prime minister leads the army and has a heavy responsibility. How can he commit suicide?"

After hearing this, Cao Cao fell into deep thought. After a long time, he raised his head and said: "Since there is a saying in the ancient book "Spring and Autumn" that 'the law is not to be respected', and I shoulder the heavy responsibility entrusted by the emperor, then I will save my death for now. However, I cannot break my promise, Anyone who makes a mistake must be punished." Then he cut off his own hair with a sword and said, "Then, I will cut off my hair instead of my head."

Then Cao Cao sent someone to order the three armies: The prime minister trampled on the wheat field and should have beheaded to show the public, but because he shouldered a heavy responsibility, he cut off his hair as a crime.

In ancient times, people believed in the belief that "the body and the skin are the ones that receive the parents." Cao Cao's act of cutting off the hair and acting as the head is very strict with self-discipline, which is really commendable. To be honest with others, you must first be honest with yourself, and only by setting an example can you restrain others.Cao Cao's behavior of leading by example won the admiration of all the officers and men, and also made the people very pleased.

There is an ancient poem that goes: "Ask how clear the canal is, so that there is fresh water from the source." As long as the leader sets an example and sets a benchmark for his subordinates, others will follow suit.In this case, it is good for his management.

There is an admiral named McDonald. He has served in the navy for 42 years and has served as the commander of the Atlantic coalition forces and the commander-in-chief of the US military in the Atlantic region.Under his administration, the Navy was well-trained.When other officers approached him for advice on management, he put it this way: "Set the course and be the first to go. If you do that, you have to count how far you lead—stay one step ahead."

Commanders of the U.S. Marine Corps and the Israeli Army have a motto: “Follow me.” This phrase indicates the approach of a charismatic leader. At the same time, this is one of the shining characteristics of a charismatic leader.

The Israeli Army takes the lead very seriously, and when it comes to combat, the commander is at the forefront.Their famous saying is, "If you're an officer, that's what you pay for. You have to be at the front." They didn't just say it, they did it.When fighting with neighboring countries, they will strictly practice this theory.Although the casualties of officers accounted for the first in the army in the world, they still did so, always rushing to the forefront, so that the soldiers would follow along.Because of this, Israel has a victorious army with one heart and one heart.

Former U.S. Vice President Limbert H. Humphrey said: "We should not move forward alone, but to attract others to move forward with us. Everyone must do this experiment." It can be seen that a good leader is subordinate Role models, and the power of role models is infinite. Therefore, if you want others to do it, you must first do it yourself; if you don't allow others to do it, you must not do it yourself.Only in this way can we truly exert our influence and shape a first-class team.

The way of management with grace and strength

Throughout the ages, many people in power have often adopted management strategies that combine grace and power in order to consolidate their status and establish their authority.

When talking about management, Mr. Nan Huaijin said: "Guan Zhong's management wisdom is management, teaching, support, and health." In management, "management" and "support" are particularly important. The coexistence of "management" and "support" is to give both kindness and might. It is a very effective management method to adopt a two-pronged strategy of being tough on the one hand and being soft on the other, but there will be some difficulties in the process of implementation. For example, if someone knows how to be kind, but not power; if someone is domineering, but does not love his subordinates; It is to let the subordinates be afraid and enjoy it at the same time.

Hachisuka is the founding father of the Tokushima vassal clan in the four countries of Japan. He has his own way of managing his subordinates. So far, we can still see some records about his insight into people's hearts in some official and unofficial histories.

On a cold winter day, Hachisuka said to his attendants: "Your feet must have been frozen in such a cold weather. I originally wanted to find out my old pair of socks and give them to you to keep warm, but I searched for them. I only found one, and although I can't wear one sock, but to show my sincerity, I hope you can accept this single sock."

The servant happily took it.Although it was nothing expensive, but the weather was cold and Hachisuka cared about himself, which really made me feel happy.

A month later, Hachisuka called the retainer again and told him, "I found another sock, and now you can make a pair and wear it."

The reason why Hachisuka did this was not only because he cared about the servant, but also to test the servant's attitude towards collecting the things he rewarded, so as to test the loyalty of the retainer. If the sock is nowhere to be found, it shows its loyalty.

At that time, the assignment of duty personnel in Tokushima City was usually done by arranging the order of shifts first, writing a list and pasting it on the wall, and then the retainers dispatched personnel on duty according to the order of the list.As the housekeeper, Hachisuka often uses the method of temporarily changing the order of the on-duty personnel to test the reaction of the retainers.

One day, a staff member on duty found out that the order of duty had changed after he went to work, so he was dissatisfied: "Why do you change the order so often? I really don't know what the purpose is?"

His words happened to be heard by Hachisuka who was in the next room, and he replied, "If you all know my intentions, what else can I do?"

As a leader, only by knowing how to see through the hearts of your subordinates and not letting your subordinates guess your mind can you maintain a sense of mystery and majesty. In this way, the subordinates can be "benevolent and powerful".

Throughout the ages, many people in power have often used tactics to test the behavior of their subordinates in order to consolidate their position and establish their authority. However, when using strategies, don't be static, otherwise it is easy to be noticed by subordinates and fail. This is also a kind of sense of proportion. Mr. Nan Huaijin highly respects the saying "too much is too much".Special attention should be paid to the use of strategies. If you go too far, you will reap the consequences, which is contrary to the original intention.

One day during the Warring States period, Han Zhaohou was cutting his nails. He deliberately put a piece of nail clippings in his hand, and then ordered the valet: "I lost the nail clippings I cut just now, I feel very uncomfortable, quickly help me find it."

After searching for a while in a hurry, they still couldn't find it.At this time, a person secretly cut off his nails and presented them, claiming to have found them.

Han Zhaohou knew very well in his heart that the armor scraps were clearly in his hands, that is to say, he was lying. However, he didn't say anything.

Another time, Han Zhaohou ordered his subordinates to patrol around to see if anything happened. After a few days, the subordinate came back and said that there was no movement. After repeated questioning by Han Zhaohou, his subordinates revealed that outside the south gate, there were cattle entering the dry fields to eat grain seedlings.

After Han Zhaohou listened, he ordered the reporter not to disclose the news, and then sent other people to go out to inspect. Before leaving, he also told them: "Recently, cattle, horses and livestock have been found trampling dry fields. You should go find out and report back."

Within a few days, all the investigation reports were submitted, but none of them was about the incident outside the south gate.In this regard, Han Zhaohou was furious, and ordered his subordinates to investigate again, and finally found out what happened outside the south gate.

The subordinates were puzzled, how did Han Zhaohou know these things? It's so predictable! From then on, the subordinates never dared to be sloppy in their work.

Although Han Zhaohou did it on purpose, he also saw the dereliction of duty of his subordinates. It is precisely because of Han Zhaohou's majesty and "knowledge of things like a god", his subordinates no longer dare to fish in troubled waters.Of course, if the leader does all he can to disturb and doubt his subordinates, but does not show compassion in other ways, the subordinates may also rebel out of disgust.

The combination of grace and power should be based on respect. If a subordinate makes a mistake, he should consider all aspects and decide what to do from the perspective of the subordinate.Sometimes comfort is more effective than scolding, and sometimes scolding is more immediate than comfort. However, if you scold when you should comfort and comfort when you should scold, it will only make things worse. In short, whether it is kindness or prestige, it all depends on personal understanding to grasp and judge.

In his position, he is good at planning and only seeks his own affairs

The so-called "if you are not in your position, you will not seek your own government."Only when everyone performs their own duties can we achieve efficiency and achieve results! In his position, he must make good use of his power and do his job well.

Mr. Nan Huaijin said in "The Analects of Confucius: Veteran General Returning to the Mountain Regardless of Soldiers", Confucius said that there is a very reasonable saying - "If you are not in the position, you will not seek the government." This sentence can be extended to four meanings, as follows: If you are in your position, you will seek your own government; if you are in your position, you will not seek your own government; if you are not in your position, you will not seek your own government; if you are not in your position, you will seek your own government.Among these meanings, the most important principle is to be in one's position, seek one's own government, and not be in one's position, not to seek one's own government. As a leader, you must be well versed in this.

One day, King Xuan of Qi approached Mencius and asked, "What is the difference between those who do nothing and those who cannot?"

Mencius went home and said: "With Mount Tai surpassing the North Sea, the speaker said 'I can't', it is true that I can't, and I broke a branch for the elders, and the speaker said 'I can't', it is not to do it, it must not be done."

Translated, it means:
One day, King Xuan of Qi asked Mencius, "What's the difference between not doing it and not being able to do it?"

Mencius replied: "If a person is asked to carry Mount Tai on his back to surpass the North Sea, if he answers that he can't do it, he really can't do it. But if he says he can't do it, he has the ability to break a branch for an elder. Instead of doing it."

Mr. Nan Huaijin explained what Mencius said. It is not easy for an ordinary person to "surpass the North Sea with Mount Tai", but it will not be difficult if the strength of the people of the world is gathered. Here, Mencius is implying King Xuan of Qi that you have the power and ability to implement benevolent government. It is not a question of whether you can or cannot do it, but whether you are willing to do it.In other words, even if he is in his position, he must seek his own government.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang was in the position of prime minister, conscientious and dedicated. For him, doing everything by himself is the most reassuring. Therefore, he has to stay up all night to deal with government affairs every day. One can imagine how hard it is.Over time, his body became thinner and thinner.
