Chapter 6 Belief, to believe that the back of the shadow is the sun (1)
Stubborn belief is a more dangerous enemy of truth than lies.

drop false beliefs

Many people take imaginary goals or even fantasies as real things, which is not true.I have warned them many times that "fictional goals" are superficial and sometimes unrealistic. When you treat fictitious goals as implementations, the psychological frustration will grow in vain if the goals are not achieved.

"Believe it's true" illusion practice is a method of psychological control, but it is not blindly fictional and fabricated, but an exploration of hidden facts. It takes you to find your "true self" by creating a "fact" that you think is true. This so-called "fact" may be true for a while, but it will not always be true.

The story of my friend Dr. Alfred when he was a child can tell us how the power of belief has a great impact on action: Alfred was so poor in math when he was a child that the teachers lost confidence in him. When the teacher passed on the "fact" that he knew nothing about math to his parents and told them not to expect too much from their child, the parents believed it too.Alfred proved this "fact" to parents and teachers time and time again with his math grades. But one day, the teacher wrote a question on the blackboard, and the whole class couldn't answer it, but Alfred had a flash of inspiration and raised his hand. The teacher and classmates thought he was joking, ignored him, and laughed at him instead. But he was indignant, went straight to the blackboard, and wrote the answer - which surprised the teacher and the students present. From then on, Alfred realized that he could learn mathematics well and regained his confidence in himself.Later, his math performance really improved by leaps and bounds.

Alfred was self-hypnotized by a false idea.In fact, the power of hypnosis is the power of belief. For us, just remember: it doesn't matter how you get your ideas, or where they come from. You may have never been hypnotized by a professional hypnotist, but you have definitely received certain thoughts (these thoughts may come from yourself, teachers, colleagues, advertisements, parents, etc.); if you can be sure that these thoughts are true, Well, they give you as much power as a hypnotist can hypnotize you.Modern scientific research shows that experiences like Dr. Alfred's are not uncommon, and such things may happen to many children whose academic performance is temporarily unsatisfactory. In some ways, the poor performance of students comes from the students' perception and definition of themselves. They were all hypnotized with bad thoughts like "I'm so stupid", "I'm a bad student", "I can't learn English well", "I have a bad memory".With such a self-definition, students can only get poor grades in order to prove that such ideas are not wrong.Failure to study well has unintentionally become a matter of belief. In the eyes of those "poor students", it is right to have poor academic performance, but it is wrong to have good grades. This kind of hypnosis does not come from the children themselves at first, but from repeated indoctrination by more authoritative channels such as teachers and parents. This can have a serious negative impact on a child's development. In order to eliminate these poisons and instill new beliefs, three conditions must be followed, namely: the source should be an authoritative channel, repeated indoctrination, and encourage children in front of many people.Only in this way can children re-understand themselves, find self-confidence, question and torture previous beliefs in another strong reaction and emotional fluctuation, and thus regain freedom.

hypnotized salesman

In the famous book "The Secret of Successful Sales", the author tells the story of the sales master Wheeler using the hypnotist's theory to greatly increase the performance of a young salesman:

When Wheeler worked as a sales consultant in a company, he faced the problem that many salesmen, no matter what products the company arranged to sell or how high the remuneration was, just tried to keep their annual salary of $5000 and did not seek to make progress.

There is a salesman who has a good performance in the field of small commodity sales, so the company allocates a product with a larger market and better prospects for him to sell. But the reward he received in the second year was the same as when he sold small commodities in the previous year, which was still $5000.In the following year, the company raised the salaries of all the salesmen, but he still only earned $5000.So, in order to test him, the company asked him to sell a product that was difficult to promote. As a result, he still earned $5000 by the end of the year.

After talking with the salesman, Wheeler found that the problem was not his sales field, but his self-evaluation-he thought he could only earn $5000 a year, and $5000 was enough .With such a belief, no matter how the external conditions change, it will not work for him.

When he is assigned to a sales field that is difficult to promote, he has to work hard to earn 5000; when he is assigned to a field that is easy to sell, as long as he is sure to earn 5000, he will stop working hard. One year, just as he reached his 5000 goal, he began to pretend to be sick and sabotage his work.

Obviously, from the $5000 a year figure, it's a long, long story.I have introduced this story in my book many years ago.In the successive letters from readers over the years, many sales managers have told me that there are salesmen in their companies who have the same situation. It can be seen that this problem has always existed in the field of marketing. But I believe that once a higher goal is given to those passive salesmen, they will pursue the new goal and work hard.

Wrong thoughts make you old

I have previously detailed a case of a patient of mine who seemed to age 20 years overnight because of a false belief, and then quickly re-appeared when she accepted the truth:

I did a lower lip job for Mr. Rather for a small fee.But I put forward a condition that he tell his girlfriend that the surgery cost him all his savings. His girlfriend has no problem with him spending a lot of money on her, she accepts it readily, and has always expressed her love for him, but she dislikes his lower lip being too big, so she refuses to marry him.But when Rather told his girlfriend what I asked him to say, and proudly showed off his new look, as I expected, instead of being happy about it, his girlfriend flew into a rage. His girlfriend said he was stupid for spending all his money, and made it clear that she had never loved Rather, and never would, and that all she loved was Rather's money. But what she said and did next took me by surprise.Out of anger and disgust, she decided to cast a voodoo curse on Rather.Rather and his girlfriend are both from the West Indies, where voodoo is prevalent, but he is well-educated and a college student, so when his girlfriend "curses" him, he feels vaguely uncomfortable, but not Believe that curses work. However, after a while, Rather felt a small hard lump grow out of his lips, and in a daze, he remembered the "curse".A friend with knowledge of voodoo curses told him the lump was an "African bug" that siphons the energy and stamina of its host. From then on, he began to be frightened and restless.

I remember the first time I met Rather, he was a recognizable young man with slightly large lips, a burly figure, and an athlete-like physique. Vitality radiates from every pore. But Lasse, who was sitting across from me at the moment, seemed to be a little old man. His face was pale like an old man, his hands trembled, his eye sockets and chin were sunken, and his body was much thinner. There are various signs in his appearance that he seems to be suffering from aging disease. After a quick check of his lips, I assured him that I only needed half an hour to get the "African bug" out of his mouth. It turned out that the culprit of the lump wasn't some voodoo curse, but scar tissue left over from a previous surgery.I showed him the lump by cutting it out, so that he could see the truth of the matter and stop doubting it.He took a long breath, and it seemed that his expression and movements changed immediately.

A few weeks later I received an effusive letter of thanks from Mr. Rather. The letter also attached his wedding photos. He returned to his hometown and married his childhood sweetheart. The man in the photo is still the same great guy I first met, and he looks like he's grown up overnight.Wrong beliefs make Rather 20 years old, but the truth not only frees him from fear, but also allows him to rebuild his confidence and gain happiness.

So please don't doubt the power of belief. This acceptance of the idea as fact is as powerful as hypnosis, no matter where it comes from.

Is everyone under hypnosis?

We are all under hypnosis to some extent. What hypnotizes us may be the views we accept from others without discrimination, or it may be the ideas we repeatedly instill in ourselves and convince ourselves. Some negative thoughts have as much influence on our behavior as hypnosis by a professional hypnotist.Have you ever seen a real hypnosis situation?A hypnotist told a strong athlete that his hand was glued to the table and he could not lift it.This athlete really couldn't lift his hands up.He was nervous, his muscles tensed, and he tried hard to lift it up, but his hands seemed to grow on the table, motionless.A hypnotist told a champion weightlifter that he couldn't lift a glass of water from the table.Although this person can lift a barbell of several hundred kilograms under normal circumstances, now he really can't hold a water glass.
