Finding Stardust

173 Emma's Decision

I am so sorry...

The situation becomes so bad.

Please forgive me...

Emma decided she had to see Haoran one last time ... She couldn't just leave him without saying goodbye.

Therius also ran after Emma. He could guess that Emma finally made the decision to leave the ship. Maybe, Emma went to Natan's clinic so she could see Horan one last time before she had to get off the ship.

Therius knew Emma was a reasonable and good-hearted girl. Her feelings must have been touched when she saw how all the crew on the bridge knelt down and begged her to leave the ship for them. She was not heartless.

Therius really appreciated Emma's sacrifice. He would never forget what happened today.

Therius was determined to punish his cousin, Heron, and make him pay for his actions. Once he became the king, he would make sure, Heron's family would never have the chance to usurp him and pull anything like this again.

Emma ran with tears streaming down her cheeks toward Natan's clinic. As soon as she arrived inside, she ignored Natan and Atila who were taking care of Xion. She immediately entered the special room where Haoran was being treated.

Therius, who arrived behind her, gave a signal to Atila and Natan to prepare Xion to be taken off the ship immediately.

"Atila, Doctor Salas, we must quickly get out of here. The Coralia will take off and bait the enemy, while we wait in Daneria until the situation is safe."

"Enemy?" Atila and Natan were stunned.

They didn't really understand what was going on. They both were shocked to hear Therius' words. However, the two were very intelligent people. Atila and Natan quickly did as Therius ordered them to do.

All the medical devices connected to Xion's body were immediately released. They worked together to lift the injured man onto the stretcher.

After they were done, Natan turned toward Haoran's treatment room, and his eyes were filled with question marks.

What was the young miss doing back there?

What should we do with that patient?

Therius nodded his head. Natan nodded back. He quickly understood that Therius wanted him to talk to Emma as the doctor who treated Haoran. She would be the one to make the decision for Haoran.

Natan went into the treatment room to find Emma.

"Miss, you must go now," he said earnestly.

Natan really understood how devastated Emma felt when she learned that she had to leave Haoran on the ship while she went to safety.

The girl placed her palms on the glass of Haoran's treatment capsule as if trying to touch her husband's hands. Emma's pair of topaz eyes were drenched in tears.

She then turned to Natan and asked in a halting voice. "Doctor Salas ... Can we take him?"

Natan was forced to shake his head weakly.

Being a doctor, he had conveyed so many heartbreaking truths like this to the patients' family members, and it didn't get easier.

Emma pressed her lips and sighed sadly. Natan continued his words in a sympathetic tone.

"However, if we left him here and there is a chance that The Coralia will escape the enemy's attack, then your friend will remain safe. The choice is yours."

Emma nodded. She understood that she was now faced with a choice that was like gambling. If they took Haoran from the ship and removed him from all of his life support system, then it was certain that Haoran would die.

However, at least Emma will still have her husband's body.

Meanwhile, if Emma left him on the ship, two possibilities will happen. The first possibility was that The Coralia would escape, and all of its crew and passengers would be safe, including Haoran.

The second possibility, The Coralia will be shot and destroyed by the battleship Heron brought. If that happened, everyone on board, including Haoran would die, and Emma would not be able to see his body again.

Now, the choice rested with Emma. Did she want to take Haoran's life now or bet on fate and hope that Haoran and The Coralia Ship will survive?

"All right, then," Emma whispered in a dejected voice. She finally made up her mind. She raised her face and looked at Natan with a pleading expression. "Natan, will you stay on the ship to make sure Haoran is fine? If Coralia managed to escape, I'll need you to continue taking care of him."

Natan understood what Emma meant. He nodded with a smile. "Of course, Miss. I will."

"Thank you, Natan." Emma breathed a sigh of relief. "If you go out with us, and The Coralia survived the enemy's attack, no one will be there to take care of Haoran on board. So, I am very grateful that you are willing to stay with him ..."

Natan understood that this order meant he would also have to risk his life in The Coralia.

It was highly unlikely that The Coralia would survive.

So, if he stayed on the ship, then Natan would also die with the rest of the passengers and crew.

This was a hard decision, but he didn't have the heart to refuse Emma's request.

"I understand, Miss. I will do all your orders. I will take care of your friend, and we hope that the gods will be on our side. We pray that The Coralia will be safe."

Emma nodded. She pressed her palm against the glass capsule as if touching Haoran's chest. She tried to keep her husband's face in her heart.

This might be the last time Emma would see that handsome face. Her tears were streaming again.

"We must leave immediately." Therius' voice came from outside. Emma nodded and wiped her tears. She tried to be brave. Emma got up and walked toward the door to meet Therius. She didn't even try to look back.

Emma was afraid that if she turned around and saw Haoran's face one more time, all her resolve would disappear.

She walked along with Therius' steps followed by Atila. They pushed the stretcher where Xion was laid down.

"All the research staff out! Leave the crew on board. We don't have much time."

The announcement was blaring on every floor, and the people who had been ready for take-off immediately rushed to go out. They wondered what really happened. However, they obeyed and left the ship as quickly as possible.

Soon, everyone who was not the ship's crew, namely members of the research team and the soldiers, part of the ship's security team, had disembarked from The Coralia ship.

Some of the soldiers immediately took Xion to the clinic at the base for immediate treatment. Emma and Therius stood upright, staring at The Coralia, which was soon taking off.

"Goodbye, Your Highness. We are proud to be working side by side with you for the past ten months," said Saul, saying his farewell, for the last time.

Therius clenched his jaw. He was furious that Heron caused the death of so many people who were important to him.

"I will not forgive you, Heron. You must pay for this ..." he hissed.

They were all still staring at the sky until a few minutes after The Coralia disappeared. Terios understood that Saul, as an experienced captain, knew better how to perform maneuvers to avoid the enemy.

However, he also realized that it was very unlikely that the ship and its crew would survive. The thoughts were truly heartbreaking.

After The Coralia was completely out of sight, he turned and walked toward the main building to look for Professor Amara.

Therius briefly explained what had happened. He asked to be taken to the observation room so he could see what was happening in the sky above them. If Heron thought that Therius was on The Coralia ship, he must decide to shoot the ship down.

Therius would wait to see if Heron really thought Therius was on the ship and died together with his crew, and go home after destroying The Coralia.

However, if they decided to return to Daneria and destroy the base, everyone in Daneria would have to get ready for battle to save themselves.

Btw, I would like to apologize if you see (hopefully only) minor errors here and there, or if you think some wordings are not the best ones to use for some sentences, or if you had to twitch your brows when you read some parts.

English is not my first language (I guess you can see that already), and to be honest, writing this story is more difficult than writing a contemporary romance story where a boy meets a girl and they fall in love, get into a misunderstanding or faced with family's rejection and schemed by some white lotuses, and conquered all their love struggle and... Voila! Then they live happily ever after.

I know it's easy to write those types of stories, because I have some of those in my drafts. XD
