Chapter 8 – Part 1

As soon as we woke up the next day, we flew back to China. Pei Hao talked to me as if nothing had happened the day before. He packed my luggage and helped me eat breakfast. It was the last buffet breakfast for the six of us at the hotel. With the plaster cast, I felt like a cripple. Pei Hao seemed to believe I had not only a lame leg but also a broken hand, so he would feed me piece by piece.
He had fed me the same way when my mother had died. At that time, I still felt he was a warm light in my broken life. In just one day, he could light up the remote and dark corners of my heart and disperse all my loneliness.
Unexpectedly, the world had changed. After going around in circles, I finally returned to my original starting point. I found that the warmth was coming from myself, and I could only survive by being my own light.
Of course, I would no longer be impressed by his tempting tricks. Whether genuine or not, they no longer made much sense to me.
I pushed the food away from him and said, “Don’t feed me. I have hands.”
“Then eat this bite,” Pei Hao said as he stuffed my mouth with another piece of vegetable, and then peeled a boiled egg and put it on my plate, saying, “Remember to eat this egg later. It’s nutritious.”
D’s girlfriend sighed, “Learn from them. You can see that they’ve been so affectionate for five years. This is true love!”
I really couldn’t reply. I could only smile awkwardly. Who knows how many couples looked good on the surface while their actual feelings had been completely corroded away like rust.
“Can you stay together for five years without affection?” D followed his girlfriend’s worlds as he peeled a boiled egg the way Pei Hao had done before.
“Ahem, do we single dogs only deserve to eat dog food?” Brother Egg turned his head to look at Fu Yan, pretending to be affectionate, and said, “Come on, Yan Yan, I’ll also peel an egg for you. No, I’ll peel two. I’m bored to death with them.”
Everyone laughed.
The 6-day trip was quickly over. We had fun planning and then also experienced sudden embarrassment. We had both ups and downs. Maybe that’s what life was really like.
After the plane landed, we all went home. It would be great if every journey ended on such a happy note.
Pei Hao drove me home. We arrived at 5 pm, both tired from the long journey. I said I would order takeaway, but he said no, he would cook for me today. After saying that, he went to the grocery store with great enthusiasm.
Pei Hao seldom cooked, so he only knew to make a few dishes. He was banging away in the kitchen while I was sitting in the living room, bored, watching TV. I was a little emotional. I would have been ecstatic if he had been so busy with me just a month or even a week ago. But now, all I wanted was to eat quickly and find a quiet place to sleep.
He tried five of six dishes that day, some of which I liked and some of which he said were good for bone recovery. While filling my plate with food, he talked about many things, about this trip, about our college basketball team, and his work. I used to like to talk to him in the past, and he used to listen to me. Now, we switched roles. So, it was not that he was not used to talking too much, but that he didn’t want to speak.
After eating, Pei Hao cleaned up, sat on the sofa, and hugged me. He leaned his head on my shoulder and asked softly, “Xiao Xi, are you still angry with me?”
“Not angry.” Anger is an emotion that expects a reply. I’ve given up my heart, and there was nothing more to be angry about.
After hearing what I said, Pei Hao said in a complaining tone, “Then you are still cold to me these days.”
I turned my head to look at him and said, “You show me passion after dragging a hurting leg in a cast while walking.”
Pei Hao’s expression was full of guilt. “I regret taking you to XX Island. I regretted the moment you went ashore. I feel it was my fault.”
He was not wrong to take me to XX Island. I couldn’t say where he was wrong. Maybe when he chose to save Fu Yan instead of me; maybe when he stayed with me for five years even though he didn’t like me; maybe when he had agreed to my confession at the beginning, or, from the moment he fell in love with Fu Yan, everything was destined to go wrong. Then maybe it was also my fault. I shouldn’t have liked him; shouldn’t have pursued him; shouldn’t have been with him. At the end of the day, no one can distinguish right from wrong.
“What are you doing now?” I patted Pei Hao on the shoulder, showing no expression. “You didn’t push me down.”
Pei Hao swiped aside my bangs and kissed my forehead. “I will take tomorrow afternoon off to take you to the hospital.”
I shook my head hurriedly. “What else do you need to see with the cast? Let’s go on the weekend.”
Pei Hao nodded. “Well, it’s ok. I’ll make you bone soup tomorrow to make up for it.”
Pei Hao’s face was only one centimeter away from me. Although his temples were as sharp as knives, his lips as sharp as fingertips, and he was, at first glance, calm and indifferent, his eyes were enchanting, deep like a black hole that could suck in people. I was attracted to them the most at the beginning.
Looking at his close face, I suddenly said, “Pei Hao, close your eyes.”
“What are you doing?” Although Pei Hao didn’t know what I wanted to do, he closed his eyes.
I mumbled, “Do you know where I wanted to kiss you the most when I first met you?”
Pei Hao’s eyelashes were not very long, but when they moved, they would tremble like butterfly wings, which was really seductive. I was a little possessed, so I touched the corner of Pei Hao’s eyes with my lips, and said, “Here.”
Unexpectedly, Pei Hao moved his eyes first, then opened his eyes, and looked at me with a smile, showing bright and clean teeth, just like when I had first seen him five years ago.
“It’s the first time I see someone who likes to kiss my eyes,” Pei Hao stretched out his hand and rubbed my hair. His expression was like a spring breeze, “but you can kiss them every day if you want.”
I shrugged, didn’t reply, then said I wanted to sleep and mentioned sleeping in the guestroom. To prevent his family from finding us sleeping on the same bed, we had rented two bedrooms and one living room. Pei Hao was very happy that night, so he didn’t care where I wanted to sleep. He covered me with a quilt and went out.
“Good night, Xiao Xi; see you tomorrow.” Pei Hao leaned against the door and reached out to turn off the light.
“Good night,” I said in a low voice while tucking myself into the bed. I didn’t think we would see each other the next day.
[1st floor] You Are Xiao Gua Pi: Oh, did Xiao Xi take the initiative to kiss scum A?!!
[2nd floor] a great painter: It may be the last kiss … Don’t get excited upstairs (`_’)ゞ
[3rd floor] Tracy0212: Pei Hao actually talked to Xiao Xi with a complaining expression. What is wrong with him?
…
[9th floor] Is it a big model?: I can see the OP really liked the scum and has been so calm and restrained since he has decided to break up. I believe that in addition to really giving up, he didn’t want to end up with Pei (scum) Hao (bag) shedding all pretenses of politeness and letting the few good things in the relationship be taken away.
[10th floor] Xiao Qi_: I only care about when the scumbag abuse begins …
