Asagiri-san brought me a printout of the romantic comedy plot I had sent her.
“First of all, I think it’s good overall. I wasn’t expecting a romantic comedy, but I was surprised.”
“Yeah, I figured I’d rather write a romantic comedy than a fantasy.”
Since I had a younger sister named Sara, I had sent her a plot for a brother-sister romantic comedy.
“So, what’s the title?”
“Yes.”
As soon as I said that, the manager brought me my coffee. The timing was just right.
“Thank you very much.”
The manager quirked the corner of his mouth a little and quietly went back behind the counter.
“So, about the title, let’s think about this a little more together.”
“Okay.”
“I think you’ve done a good job with the synopsis and the main idea of the piece. Please continue writing the body of the story.”
I completed the rest of the story, except the title, in one go.
“Thank you very much. I’ll give it a try.”
“Please do. I’ll send you the formatting and other information later.”
“That would be great.
For me, writing a novel was a new experience. There were many things I didn’t understand.
“Then there’s the title. It’s quite difficult.”
Asagiri-san was holding her head in her hands.
The title I came up with was <<If I had a sister, maybe I wouldn’t need a girlfriend>>.
It was true that there was nothing interesting or compelling about it.
“Titles are important, aren’t they?”
“Yeah.”
It would not be an exaggeration to say that the title and cover illustration determine whether a novel would sell or not.
“I’ll rethink the title.”
“Please do. I’ll also think about it myself.”
“Thank you very much.”
We spent the next half hour talking about our future plans, and then the meeting came to an end.
She said she wanted me to write about 100,000 words for the book.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go.”
“Okay, thank you for your time.”
We left the coffee shop and I walked Asagiri-san to the station.
“Now, I’m going home too.”
Muttering this, I took out my phone from my pocket and started up the messaging app to tell Sara that the meeting was over.
The message was immediately read, and I received a stamp that said, ‘Good Work’.
I told her that I was leaving now, and started walking towards home.
“I’m home.”
I unlocked the front door and entered the house.
“Welcome back.”
Sara peeked out from the living room and greeted me with a big smile on her face.
“How was the meeting?
“It was mostly okay. She wants me to work on the story and title.”
“That’s great!”
Sara’s eyes were sparkling
“Oh, I’ll go change for now.’
With that, I headed to my room, unbuttoning my shirt.
