"So why?"

Su Ning was at a loss for words. Perhaps for the first time since meeting Gu YuChen, she was confounded to the point of speechlessness. 'Why?' she wondered to herself. 'I don't know why. I just… I don't like it when Gu YuChen is being distant.' 

But she herself knew that saying these out loud just makes her sound selfish and arrogant. Gu YuChen was right, it was that wanted to distance herself. She was also the one who felt burdened by his kindness and generosity. So why?

The girl's brows grew more furrowed and her lips opened and closed several times but so sounds came out. Gu YuChen kept his gaze on the lovely girl in front of him and the tiny feeling of anticipation that had bubbled up because of her previous words slowly expanded. 'Can I hope for more?' he asked himself.

But before Gu YuChen could prod the girl for answers, the door to her room opened suddenly and Lin JinYan barged into the room. He had an unnaturally serious look on his face.

"NingNing, you haven't gotten ready? We've got to grab breakfast and set off soon. The show is at 1pm," Lin JinYan who went to the other side of Su Ning's bed said urgently as he grabbed hold of her hand.

"Oh.. ahh okay. I'll get ready now," Su Ning answered distractedly. Then she turned to Gu YuChen who had been waiting beside her and said apologetically, "YuChen-ge, let's grab breakfast first. We can talk later alright?"

For a split second, Gu YuChen wore a conflicted expression on his face as if he didn't want to let the girl go without first answering his question. But he also knew that he wouldn't be getting a straight response with Lin JinYan around. Su Ning was already having a hard time figuring out her own feelings. The presence of Lin JinYan would only complicate matters further. Plus, Gu YuChen had the presence of mind to know that there was a high probability Lin JinYan purposely interrupted his conversation with Su Ning. Sly bastard.

"En. Mei guan xi. I'll leave you to get changed," Gu YuChen said, patting the girl's head gently. Gu YuChen shot Lin JinYan a dirty look to which the latter responded with a smirk as he intertwined his fingers with that of Su Ning's.

Su Ning looked back and forth between Gu YuChen and Lin JinYan with a perplexed look on her face. 'Again these two.. why are they always doing a stare off every time they meet. Bu lei ma?' 

"Hao le hao le. I need to change. Both of you out," she said instead. Actually, Su Ning was grateful to Lin JinYan for saving her from having to answer Gu YuChen's question. It was something she didn't know the answer to and a part of her didn't want to know the meaning behind her own words. Instinctively, Su Ning knew that if he looked deeper into the matter the dynamic of their relationship would change inevitably. Su Ning was not ready for such a change.

Su Ning hoped Gu YuChen wouldn't bring up the matter again.

The trio had a simple breakfast prepared by the housekeeper. It was a Chinese style fare that Su Ning liked. The joy was evident one her face as she chewed on her Chinese donut and sipped her hot fresh soy milk.

"NingNing, prefers C Country food, huh?" Lin JinYan commented using his thumb to remove the crumbs from the corner of the girl's lips. Su Ning, who had been so focused on her meal, didn't think anything of the man's actions. As she had gotten so accustomed to Lin JinYan's touchy-feeliness over the past week. On the other hand, Gu YuChen, who sat across from the two, narrowed his eyes at the sight of this physical intimacy.  His mood which had started hopeful had gone to the dogs in the span of a few hours. He unconsciously gripped his cha siu bao causing the pork filling to ooze out and spill onto the table. 

"YuChen-ge! Your food dropped on the table!" Su Ning abruptly stood up to hand the man some napkins. "Ni zai fa she me dai ah!?"

But Gu YuChenmerely silently cleaned up after himself and finished his meal without further conversing with the two people in front of him. Su Ning could tell Gu YuChen was upset but she didn't know why. Immediately after, the man went straight to his room to do some work.

At around 11am the pair was ready to leave for their trip. Su Ning felt ill at ease to leave without making sure that Gu YuChen was alright so she sent Lin inYan to the car first.

"I'll be back in a bit. Let me say goodbye to YuChen-ge first,' she told Lin JinYan with a lovely smile. Lin JinYan nodded in response but couldn't stop himself from grumbling, "YuChen is just being dramatic. NingNing doesn't really need to mind him. You're too nice."

"Haha. You're both dramatic. I'll do the same for you when you're in a bad mood," Su Ning responded laughingly.

And so, Su Ning ran up to Gu YuChen's study and knocked lightly on the door a few times. Hearing no response, Su Ning let herself into the man's room like she used to do back in C Country. Surprisingly, the inside of Gu YuChen's room was completely different from how the rest of the house was decorated, which was in a luxurious but cozy Danish hygge interior design. Gu YuChen's room could best be described as minimalistic. There's a single bed, a table and a chair. There was nothing else. And everything was white. It kind of reminded Su Ning of a padded room in those mental asylums.

'Why is this room so different from the rest of the house?' she wondered. Soon, her attention was reverted back to the man in the room. Gu YuChen appeared to be in a business meeting. He was speaking to some people on the screen that Su Ning wasn't able to see from where she stood by the door. It also seems that Gu YuChen had not noticed her existence.

'Ah.. what language is Gu YuChen speaking? Is that French?' she wondered, leaning quietly by the wall as she waited for her friend to wrap up his call. 'Gu YuChen is really impressive. Only 21 years old but he's made several popular mobile games. He's even starting his own company now. He may have a severe case of facial paralysis but he's actually quite caring in an awkward way. And he's also very generous,' Su Ning thought, recalling how comfortable her high school life was living at M Heights with Gu YuChen. 'The girl he likes is very lucky. I wonder who she is? How far along has Gu YuChen gotten in pursuing her? Are they going to be a couple soon?' she suddenly wondered to herself. 

Author's Note: At this point, Su Ning is not aware that the company Sun Fox was also built by Gu YuChen. 

"NingNing?" Gu YuChen called out to her in his deep quiet voice. Gu YuChen had turned from where he sat. He was staring intently at the girl who'd been lost in thought with her back leaning against the wall of his room. While Su Ning had been engrossed in her musings, Gu YuChen had ended his meeting and had been startled to find the object of his affections standing by the door. His breath caught. Su Ning was clad in a simple white turtleneck and blue skinny jeans yet she looked so lovely. Her long black hair was left in loose waves with layers framing her face. She wore light makeup that served to enhance her natural beauty. 

"NingNing?" Gu YuChen repeated.

Su Ning snapped out of her reverie. "YuChen-ge," she answered back with a sweet smile. 

"Ni tou tou mo mo zhan zai na bian gan ma?" he asked with a quiet laugh.
