Mage Of The Abyss

Chapter 35 - 27 ~ Unseen Evolution

I cannot believe what I'm looking at right now.

{Essence Summoning / Momentarily conjuring a specter from the outer plane unreachable by the gods to assist you / Duration: Up to 40 Seconds}

{Abyssal Link / Weaken both the user and the target while explosively draining all Primary Attributes until it fully depleted / Potency: 6 / Primary Attribute Consumption: None / Requirement: None / Next Potency Requirement: Kill 30000 Living Creatures}

{Immortality (Legend) / Rank 5 (Max) / Defy death upon reaching 0% Health. Significantly increase all incoming Pain and apply [Fragile] to the user. Revival will occur every second if death persists. Revival will restore all Primary Attributes. Revival will momentarily double all Primary Attributes for 1 Second. Upon Revival, gain immunity to all incoming damage for 1 Second}

I remembered the words I said when I passed out and I can't stop palming my face right now.

"Well, it's alright I guess."

But how come every time it ranks up, my Immortality felt like a double-edged sword. No longer do I negate pain, if I take damage, I will die right away. Sure, I can revive within a second now, no problem. But damn, if I were to get stuck in a situation where I can't move in place, then I will experience death multiple times.

That immunity doesn't seem like a good trade-off at all.

"Not good."

The only way to escape from this situation is to evolve Immortality again, but is it possible for it to have another evolution?

I can only gamble.

*Krooogogogohk*

"Hm, Sombak?" nudging my foot with its cheek, "Heheh, are you worried about me?" c.a.r.e.s.sing its head, "You don't have to, boy."

"You did good back there."

*Krooogogogogohk*

"Hmm, it doesn't seem we shared Exp or level gain. Do you only level up when eating things?" come to think of it, he did evolve after eating those bandits.

The one that madam Goolag had asked me to do can be done on the way when I visit a city or something, but first, I'm gonna need to earn some money if I'm not going to collect them myself.

While the one for lord Ludtleth… the booklist is thin, but the content or the targets I should say – is packed!

None of the rewards will give me Immortality Rank UP, but those who are on the high-level ones, their difficulty is high but their reward sure is handsome.

"Welp, at my current level though. I doubt I can do it – I at least want to posses a few Tier 6 Spells before butting my heads in."

"Let's go, boy. Thanks to my impeccable wits," waving the new item I've purchased from the Hellblade Realm, "I got something for you."

I walked out from the shed and head north.

On the way, I allocate the new points that I've got from leveling and put them on a place where I think is necessary. My old build was heavily focusing on Faith – which scale perfectly with the second class Chronomancer, so now I have to do the same with the soon-to-be obtained second class of mine, Pyromancer.

All 60.000 points for Primary Attributes and 2000 points for the Secondary Attribute have been allocated, resulting to this.

! {Arcane Progression}

~ {Faith Lv. 1000 Bonus: Bypass all Faith requirement of Mega abilities and below. Double the Efficiency and Potency of all Faith-based abilities}

Guess it's time for me to look for some sweet Tier 8 Spells.

{Bleak Summoning Flute / Rare / Able to attract any monster in the area / Uses: Unlimited / Requirement: 50 Dexterity}

*Pweeeeeeeeeeeeet!*

The deafening sound of this thing is uncanny.

*Krash *Krash

I expected some high-level beasts to come but it turns out, there's nothing but low-level monsters offering their lives for me. With a fur in the color of sand, running on all four, beastly tail, and sharp fangs.

==== Quick Inspect ====

Terra Wolf / Level: 12 / Beast / Health: 2.000

==== Quick Inspect ====

There are many of them though, about 10 or so.

I want to let Sombak to have a feast, but I want to try something out too. The new skill— no, it's an Innate Ability now. Yes, "Abyssal Link."

*Badum*

Upon the quake within my c.h.e.s.t, my eyes gone dimmer as the enemies in my field of vision have lightened up, covered in a black miasma. It's odd, usually a black color is hard to tell in the dark, but I can see it clearly.

After locking the focus to as many wolves that I can, my heart beats once more. Multiple beams of black light attach themselves to the ones I targeted, and they... pumped out mine and their insides as if it's s.u.c.k.i.n.g our lifeforce, and then wring it all out into a black substance.

"Nngh!"

It's painful but somehow… it made me laugh. While my Health, Mana, and Stamina are going down, I can see their health is rapidly moving to 0 at the same rate as mine which is almost 100% lower than them.

All of them quickly charged towards me, howling.

"Hehe," before I bite the dust, I try out my new Innate Ability. In order to bring out the most of its potential, I tapped my hands together, and then suddenly, my eyes shook as the knowledge of the correct activation suddenly flew in my mind. And I followed it.

My hands filled the gap between my fingers and closed the palm.

"Essence Summoning!"

*Bwooooo—*

Something is trying to get out from the inside of my hands. When I opened my fingers, I can feel that the thing inside won't fall if I let it go - so I did.

*Bwooooosh*

80% of my Mana was spent.

! {Essence Summoning Successful}

10ft tall creature floating in the air with a pair of demonic wings spreading on its back. Its entire body is armored and there's a gap all around its body, leaking the light of lava. It's holding a three-point spear on its right arm, gripping it tight as it looked at me. Made me chuckled, it has the face that I'm a bit familiar with, which is the one I cracked open.

! {Summoned Creature}

~ {Gargantua Imp / Level 97 / Demon / Health: 160.000 / Mana: 80.000 / Stamina: Infinite / Ability: [Flaming Spear] [Lava Blaze] / Physical Attack: 800 / Magical Attack: 160 / Physical Defense: 240 / Magical Defense: 240 / Duration: 32 Seconds}

Though, it's much more powerful than the one I faced back in Prison Realm. Plus, it's the origin of the creature that makes it different, which is a Demon instead of Undead.

Looks like its stats and duration are scaled accordingly with both my level and the amount of mana I spent.

There is also the case of [Abyssal Link] Mana depletion is significantly reduced, so no matter how much points I spent or if I were to take damage, the amount of it being reduced and the time I and them will die is fixed upon activation.

Unless they have the ability to cancel it, their death is inevitable, it made the edge of my lips go to my ears knowing that I will die as well. Though, I will come out as the victor.

*SLASH*

Two wolves that were charging at me are cut open in half by the spear of MY summoned creature, "You go too, Sombak!"

*Krooogohgoghk*

The little guy and the big guy charged onward and I'm not even worried.

*Slash *Slash *Kroooooogh

"Heh."

The scenery in front of me dazed me in delight. I never knew that the color of blood can be this beautiful. Even the one under my status, it's rapidly decreasing and soon turns completely bla—

"..."

"..."

"..."

Somehow... I don't feel like moving.

"..."

"..."

"..."

I can't breathe. Heheh, what is this? I feel like I just blank out.

*Nudge *Nudge

What is it, Sombak? Come on now, I'll pet you in just a moment, okay? Just wait for me, okay? It's weird that I can't even move my eyes or blink even though, it's already so blurry right now.

Huh?

Now I can't hear anything, no wait, I can. What is that ringing sound... it keeps getting louder and louder.

*Gasp*

"............" I found myself lying down with my right foot constantly tensioning non-stop. My eyes kept shaking and it won't blink, I saw Somba l.i.c.k.i.n.g my face. I can finally move my arms, so I grabbed him and hugged myself tightly.

I can't stop shivering. It's cold.

...

A big heavy breath coming out of my c.h.e.s.t, "Here."

Throwing the last remaining head of a spider-type monster to Sombak, and it caught the thing with its three bones of human arms.

"That should be the last one, yeah? Think you can evolve now?"

Just like Rank on the Immortality, Sombak can supposedly only be able to upgrade 5 times until reaching a complete Evolution. Its entire body stretched out as it swallowed the head whole. I wonder just how far can Sombak stretch its body when eating.

! {Summoned Creature – Sombak – can now Evolve}

"Hm, something like this needs permission?"

I never had a pet in the game because of how useless they are, even the combat ones. So, I don't know much about this.

"Heh, go ahead, boy. No need to ask permission next time, just show me your new form."

! {Commencing Evolution}

Every time Sombak got an upgrade to its name, only a few parts of it changes. First is the appearance of twelve stick-like feet, and then a tiny little hair on them, growing with each upgrade to its [Infant] status.

Makes me excited how exactly the change is going to be when it's actually evolving to a higher grade.

*Crack *Crack *Crack

Sombak's twelve feet suddenly broke and it went limp soon after as if it just died. Black miasma soon appeared beneath it and flows to the three bony hands it has, they grasped the black air and the arms bring them down as it submerged.

"Hm?"

Sombak's upper body was stitched together, but then something unpredictable happens.

*Stab*

Two hands pierced the stitched skin, and they were shelled in a scaly black texture. While the shape retains the human form, the appearance is much different.

*Crash*

As soon as it tore it opens, black liquid gushes out from the inside. Revealing the new body of Sombak. Going down from 3ft tall plus the extension of its arms, down to a mere sub 2ft tall creature but with the length of a full meter.

It now only has two arms. They're thick and scaled like what a dragon would have.

*Gloooghoogh*

Reminds me of the creature I saw in my dream, but a lot less scary.

Though, Sombak still got no eyes. And its mouth is now a circle that never closes, but the inside which has multiple layers of teeth, they are rotating around endlessly.

"Heh, now you look like a real monster, boy."

With no hesitation, I rubbed its head with a... smile... on my face.
