Magic With You

Chapter 121 - 121: Fighting Emily

Although Calter didn't take his mother too seriously, but a fight is still a fight! Calter will never underestimate any enemy. Besides, wouldn't it be too embarrassing if he said such words yet lose in such a humiliating manner?

"[Dark Summon Magic: Skeleton Ranger!]" Calter pointed his wand on the ground and a few meters summoning circle appeared. From it, five skeletons holding daggers appeared

At Level 3, mages can summon skeleton warriors. As for Level 6, one can then summon skeleton archers. And for level 9 Magic Apprentices, they can summon skeleton rangers

These three are on par with power but have different field of expertise. However, even a Rank 0 Level 1 Spell can kill if used effectively! If the enemy just let you attack them then even a weak spell can kill a powerful enemy

"Is that all you can do?" Emily asked arrogantly as if she didn't even take these skeletons seriously

Calter's pride was naturally hurt by Emily's words and he used another summoning spell

"[Dark Summon Magic: Skeleton Warriors!]" This time, Calter summoned the five skeleton warriors and let them be in front

As Calter really felt that his pride was 'step on' he completed the skeleton line up. "[Dark Summon Magic: Skeleton Archers!]"

The young master summoned the archers a bit far this time, and even a peak Magic Apprentice will have a hard time in dealing with this line up of 15 skeletons

A peak Magic Apprentice is powerful among Rank 0 Mages, but they are still one person! These skeletons have different specialization, and with their numbers, they have no problem in defeating peak Rank 0 Mages

Just like the saying, in numbers, there are strength!

"Let mother show you how wrong you are for underestimating me!" Emily said and she didn't even used any wand to activate her own spell

Sensing the magic fluctuations, Calter raised his brows as he is anticipating what kind of spell his mother will use. Even with the magic fluctuations, he still doesn't know what type of mage his mother is as her mana is of a pure one without any attributes

"[Sealing Magic: Copper Seal!]" With a mere wave of her hand, chains made from copper appeared from the ground. The reddish-brown chains then wrapped all over the skeletons' body and they lose their ability to move

"Non-elemental Magic!" Calter exclaimed in surprise as he looks at his mother like the woman is a monster. Aside from elemental magic, there are naturally other types of magic

However, mages that used those are very rare. All the people in the Enchanted Realm knows was that, in the ancient era, all sorts of magic exists

But now, mostly elemental magics exists. Knowledge on how to use other types of magic is very rare and even then, it doesn't mean you'll be much more powerful than the others

Knowledge is very limited even to those who are non-elemental mages. To think that Calter will be able to witness such magic in a small city like Soaring Magic City

This greatly shocked him!

However, seeing the smirk on Emily irritated Calter and he waved his wand. His summon creatures then dissipated into black specks of light

Although having numerical advantage is good but that depends on what kind of ability your enemy have. Since Emily can easily bind his summoned then there is no use keeping them here

Even if Calter has a lot of mana, he still won't waste it just like it

"[Dark Magic: Dark Blessing!]" Thus, Calter did what most mages will do and activated a speed boosting spell. Since those chains can appear directly from the ground, then, Calter needs to be careful and dodge them

"[Dark Magic: Darkness Balls!]" Wanting to test the waters, Calter activated his signature spell of the past and five balls of acid were formed in front of his wand. Those balls then went towards Emily

Calter's spell casting speed was simply too astonishing as he cast one spell after the other

Emily just continued smirking and didn't even moved on her place. "[Sealing Magic: Chain Barrier!]" Four chains appeared from the ground and formed a rectangular shape barrier that enclosed Emily inside

The darkness balls that hit the barrier only managed to create some ripples, but they were too weak to leave a substantial effect. They didn't even leave a scratch

"[Dark Magic: Evil Stare!]" Calter's eyes glowed with a dark light and he used a soul spell against Emily, but it was ineffective too. Calter's spell cannot pass through that chain barrier

Seems like not only it blocked physical attacks but also soul ones

Calter frowned as his annoyance grew the more time that passed especially after Emily opened her mouth. "What? Is that all?" Emily taunted and lines formed on Calter's forehead before he channeled a lot of mana on his wand

"[Dark Magic: Death Beam!]" The huge amount of mana was then condensed into a finger size black beam and charged at the barrier protecting Emily

The beam collided at the barrier but was only able to shake it a bit. Calter's frown deepened as he realizes that he still can't judge what Rank Emily is at

There are various items that can hide one's cultivation level but that's all of it. As long as one engaged in a fight, the enemy would still be able to determine their level. Calter never heard of a treasure that can hide one's level even if they were fighting

If Emily is at Apprentice level, the Death Beam was more than enough to destroy any Rank 0 Level 9 Magic Barrier. Death Beam is a Level 9 Spell and with Calter's Magic Marks, it has the power of a Rank 1 Spell!

Even if it is a Rank 1 Barrier Spell, it should have made some damage. This can only mean a few things. Emily's spell might be one of those 'special spells' that cannot be judge by normal standards

For example, there are Rank 1 Spells, but some of them are much more powerful than normal spells at that level. But of course, it will have some drawbacks like extremely hard magic theory or paying a lot of price to activate it

The second possibility is that Emily is strong even amongst the Magic Warriors or she is above that level!

Now, Calter really thinks that Emily might have some secrets on her. But since she's still his mother, he doesn't care about what secrets she will have as long as it won't harm Kence

"[Dark Magic: Shadow Flame!]" With a wave of his wand, Calter made a black fire and it all advanced at Emily's position. Shadow Flame although called a flame but they are actually not a real flame

Its appearance was that of a black flame, but its ability is corrosion. If you were caught by it, it looks like the black colored flame is burning your flesh, but it is actually just corroding your body!

The shadow flame lands on the barrier and as long as it wasn't extinguished, the flame will continue to burn on that barrier

"Heh... mother will be on offensive now!" Emily declared and pointed her hand below Calter

"[Sealing Magic: Copper Chain!]" As Calter's Dark Blessing is still active, he barely managed to dodge the chains wanting to bind him by jumping backwards

However, from his peripheral vision, Calter saw two chains, one each on his side

Calter's eyes flashed with a dark light and used another spell on himself "[Dark Magic: Dark Shield!]" After Calter pointed his wand below his feet, a black substance appeared on it. That substance then condensed into a hexagon shape black barrier and Calter jumped on it to propel him upwards

The two chains on his side collided with each other and Calter perfectly dodge them. "You do have some talent, but it wasn't enough!]" Emily declared and more chains appeared and ascended from the ground

Calter is cornered as he was surrounded by copper chains all around him, but he didn't panic. "[Dark Magic: Tentacles!]" From Calter's wand appeared five long tentacles and he used it to defend himself

The young master didn't directly attack the chains and just alter their directions using the tentacles. This caused the chains to either deflect each other or form a messy knot

"I told you, it is still not enough!" Emily continued and the chains that either collided with each other or were in a knot continued on their way towards Calter

As usual, Calter isn't panicking. As long as the difference is not that far apart, Calter is confident to win using his spell casting talent!

He already used a lot of spells in succession, but his head is still not aching. Last night's cultivation greatly improved his soul. His spell casting speed and soul endurance both gained a huge boost!

"[Darkness Style: Black Fog!]" A dark fog immediately formed around Calter and blocked Emily's vision

Emily just chuckled as Calter is still 'young' and 'inexperienced'

"I can't see you but --" Emily wants to say that she can still sense the mana fluctuations from Calter's Dark Blessing spell before but.... she was shock to sense two more mana fluctuations and she didn't know where to attack. But since the chains are numerous, she just controlled them to attack all three areas emitting mana

However, the slight shock and hesitation was more than enough for Calter to save himself in that situation

When the dark fog disappeared, Calter is already away from the chains. There are two humanoid black figures made from mana that were binded by the copper chains and Emily dispersed her chains at seeing that

Whether it be Magic Apprentices like Calter or Grand Knights like Number D1 and D1, the appearance of their spells is almost the same. The only difference was the power!

The looks are identical but that is mostly the 'outer shell' and Calter's spells were still too weak in comparison to a Grand Knight's spell

"[Dark Magic: Dark Blessing!]" Calter activated this spell again as he already used up all the boost that his previous casting on it gave to him. His whole body was covered with a dark aura again and he stared at Emily with seriousness on his face

If he wasn't a rogue mage with a lot of fighting experience on his past life, that assault would have finished this duel and hailed Emily as the winner. Thank god, Calter has a lot of experience!

Kence who was watching this can feel his blood boiling in excitement. Compared to this kind of battle, his experience and power was still truly lacking!

The youth knows that if fought either Calter or Emily, he might lose in a single exchange. Although Kence trained in the Dungeon but it wasn't enough

Even if Kence messed up, he wouldn't still get hurt as there are always his guard for him. Of course, Kence wants to be strong and he always take the dungeon monsters seriously. However, with the guards always with you, your mind will unconsciously think that you are always safe

Your body won't produce that much adrenaline and you wouldn't have the experience of truly feeling danger

Kence doesn't realize this. In return, Kence doesn't know why although he trained and trained but the disparity in power is still too high. Kence wants to be strong for Calter yet he feels like he's not being strong enough

With these thoughts on his mind, Kence unconsciously clenched his fist. The fragile Calter that Kence witnessed before back at the Demon's Den flashed on his mind again

Kence started thinking at how 'stupid' and 'silly' he was. Here he is, constantly feeling guilty and having a nightmare because of killing Brony and Bonny

He vowed to become strong over and over again yet he's still this fragile. How can he protect Calter when he himself can't even get over the fact that he killed people?

Thinking at how those two plotted to kill Calter, the most important person on his life, aren't they the bad one and not him? Now that Kence thinks of it, if they managed to almost kill Calter then who can say that they didn't become successful on killing other people?

Kence mind has this kind of thoughts now: those people killed a lot of people before and he did a good job by preventing them from killing anyone again

They are the bad guys, and, in this world, there are times that you need to do things like that to prevent anyone close on you to be in any kind of harm

Without anyone knowing, Kence's mind is slowly getting matured.. He still doesn't like killing people but the shadows on his heart is already vanishing.
