Magic With You

The wolf was unsurprisingly impaled by the javelin and it soon died. Only then did Kence's mind returned back to normal

Seeing the dead wolf, Kence was saddened and felt an uncomfortable feeling in his heart. The youth walked towards the wolf and bowed his head on it before covering his mouth with his hand

The blood really gave Kence's body a familiar feeling. From Kence's 'memories', he already killed several magic beasts before but he didn't know why the dead wolf affected him this much

Even the guard watching him was confused as to why he is acting this apologetic. Magic Beasts are a big problem for all humans in the Escardon Realm. If humans let them breed too much, beast tides might happen that will be the cause of an uncountable number of deaths

It was common for humans and beasts to kill each other

Kence shot one last glance at the wolf before heading deeper on the mountain with his guard trailing behind to protect him from any danger

Along the way, Kence suddenly stopped as he saw his moon necklace glowed with a dim light

"Young Master?" The guard asked at seeing Kence stopping for no reason

Kence blinked his eyes repeatedly while looking at his necklace. He was sure that he really saw it glowed but when he checked it, the glow vanishes

Seeing that there is nothing more suspicious on his necklace, Kence just shook his head and ignored it. There are a lot of strange happenings to him these past few days, it might be because he's too stressed out as the test for the Escardon Academy is getting nearer and nearer

The two continued with them meeting more Ice Wolves. From the initial one ice wolf enemy, Kence slowly got used to the 'strange' fighting style and also increases the number of his enemies

Kence is currently fighting three Ice Wolves. Those wolves pounced at Kence and he can't let them get too close to him

"[Ice Magic: Ice Spikes!]" Kence's palms glowed with an icy blue light and he slammed them to the ground

Small pieces of ice spikes grew in front of him that caused the wolves to slow down if they don't want to get injured

Using his fast spell-casting talent, Kence retrieved three throwing knives from his spatial rings before activating another spell. "[Ice Magic: Ice Blessing!]"

Kence's body once again glowed with an icy blue light and he ran around to pull some distance between him and the wolves. The icy energy also flowed towards the throwing knives and Kence three them towards the wolves

Those knives then flew in separate direction intending to attack one wolf each

The wolf with their quick speed, dodged by running around but Kence waved his hand and the three knives changed their directions

All the knives went to attack only the wolf in the middle and two of them managed to land a clear hit

The eyes of Kence's guard glowed in amazement before his face changed and darkened

"Young Master watch out!" The guard shouted before coating his palm with whitish mana and he slammed it on the ground "[Snow Magic: Snow Wall!]"

The snows in front of Kence instantly rose and created a two meters snow wall

Kence was about to use another spell against the wolves but the snow wall suddenly appeared that shocked him. He also felt that something hits the wall and it soon crumbled

"Young Master, get behind me!" The guard shouted with urgency and Kence knew that this is not the time to ask a question and did what his guard said

Fortunately, Kence's guard is close and his Ice Blessing spell is still active. It only took a few seconds before Kence reached his guard

When Kence finally saw what made his guard tense, his face also darkened

Not far from him and his guard was a three meters Snow Golem. On its hand was a meter big snowball. The golem then threw the large ball of snow on the humans' position

"[Snow Magic: Snow Wall!]" The guard uses the same spell and the snow wall defended them from the snowball before crumbling again

"Why is a Snow Golem this near towards the foot of the mountain?" The guard asked with a frown and readied himself as the enemy is approaching them

For his guard to be this tense, Kence is sure that the Snow Golem is a Rank 3 Beasts that can endanger their lives

The guard's magic ring glowed a bit and he immediately uses a spell. It was a fool's tactic to wait for your enemies to get close enough to you before deciding to attack

"[Snow Magic: Snow Barrage!]" The guard waved his hand and tens of snowballs floated from the ground before he fired them at the golem

The golem although not still not as intelligent as a human still have higher intellect and it won't just let itself be killed by those small balls of snow

The golem opened its mouth and let out a snowy breath that destroyed the attacks flying in its direction

The guard gritted his teeth at that before using more of his mana for his spell. "[Snow Magic: Swallowing Snow!]" The guard slammed his palms on the ground again and controlled the snow near the golem

The snow moved and wrapped around the golem starting from its feet. Bullets of sweat covered the guard's forehead despite the surrounding temperature being low

The golem was moving its feet around while its hand tried removing the snow wrapping on it making it harder for the guard to continue using his spell on the enemy

Seeing this, Kence feels that the situation is dangerous and decided to help

"[Ice Magic: Frost Birds!]" As he knew how weak he is, Kence strained his soul to form five birds and they all flew towards the golem's direction

However, Kence still overestimated his power. The ice golem only opened its mouth and shot a snowy beam

That single beam destroyed all the birds that Kence made and still have enough power to continue charging in his direction

Kence's guard is a hundred percent sure that if Kence was hit by that beam, the youth will instantly die and he can't let that happen!

The guard canceled his spell and hastily made a wall of snow to protect Kence. "Are you alright, Young Master?" The guard asked in concern

Kence can only nod his head in embarrassment. He was not that stupid to not realize that his action just made things worse

The Ice Golem issued a roar before the snow around it moved on its will. Streaks of thick and hardened snow flew in the air and advanced towards the humans

The guard immediately stood in front of Kence to defend both of them. "[Snow Magic: Snow Wall!]" The guard used more mana this time and the snow wall was much thicker and durable than the previous ones he made

However, even then, the snow wall still cracked, forcing the guard to strain his soul and use even more mana

When the wall crumbled, the snow golem's attack finally ended. The guard panted a bit before taking a sword from his spatial ring

"[Ice Magic: Snow Armor!]" The guard tapped his foot on the ground and the snow below climbed to his body forming a white armor

The guard made a slashing motion with his sword and it was soon coated with his magical powers

The guard tapped the ground again and another snow wall rose from the ground in front of Kence before he charged at the snow giant with the sword in his hand

Ice Armor spell doesn't only give the guard an increased defense. His speed and power also improved. But of course, it is still not as great as the ones that Magic Swordsmen and other types of mages that focuses on physical amplification can do

The Ice Golem opened its mouth and shot beams of snow towards the guard but the man just slashed those beams in half with his sword

Whenever those cut beams landed on the ground, a few inches wide and deep hole will appear, a testimony of how powerful those beams are

Seeing that its attack was ineffective, the Snow Golem decided to meet the guard head-on. Its fist was coated with its mana and the golem threw a punch towards the guard

The guard dodged by moving on the side and the fist only landed on the soft snow below creating a much deeper hole than before

After dodging, the guard slashed his sword on the enemy's arm and made a wide cut on it. To be Kence's guard, how can this mage be weak?

Otto is the King's brother and a duke while Kence is his adaptive son! The youth's position is quite high and even among the Grand Knights, this guard isn't at the lowest level!

As the Snow Golem doesn't feel any pain, it ignored the cut made to its body and threw another punch using its other hand

But just like before, the guard dodged but the snow below him suddenly rose and caught him off balance

The snow golem used this chance and threw the third punch towards the human. The guard knows that he can't dodge this and can only use his sword

The guard controlled the special mechanism on his sword and the blade glowed with a brighter light before ice formed around it. The next thing that the snow giant knew was that the human's sword suddenly turned longer

The guard used his sword to block the golem's fist. However, the Golem's fist is still not something to be taken lightly and the guard flew a few meters in the air before landing on the soft snow below

If it wasn't for his sword and Snow Armor, the guard would have already died from just a single punch

But although the guard didn't die, he was still injured. Snow Golems are powerful even among Magic Beasts

These creatures don't feel any pain and injuries are almost ineffective on them. The flesh and blood lifeforms' fighting power can lower because of pain and injury as the more blood they bled, the weaker they will become until they die

But Snow Golems are different. Their bodies are composed of thick and hard snow. Even if one makes a cut on it, it won't affect the golem that much

Only if the mage cut the whole limb would their attack be significant. Too bad that the guard is powerful yet even he, still can't do that easily

Kence who was peeking from the side of the snow wall erected for him become worried for the guard. His concern was not only because he will die too if his guard was defeated and died. Kence was concerned as he doesn't want the guard to die because of him

The guard's job was to protect him but it would be cruel if the guard really died because of him

Kence started searching for his memories of what he should do before remembering something. He immediately took a Rune from his spatial ring

Runes can be put on one's clothes and the defensive ones would automatically be activated once an attack was about to hit the wearer

As the Duke's adoptive son, there are naturally a lot of things that were given to Kence for protection. It's just that since days ago, everything suddenly turned unfamiliar and Kence always forgot to wear all of his protective gears

Kence immediately threw the rune in his guard's direction and it landed near the man. "Please use that!" Kence shouted and the guard looks at the rune

The guard's eyes flashed with astonishment when looking at the rune. Something like this is so expensive that even most Grand Knights cannot afford it

The guard picked up the rune and run to pull some distance between him and the Snow Golem

"Young Master, I cannot use something like this!" The guard shouted. All of his wealth might not even be enough to buy a single rune, like this

This rune was at Rank 3! Meaning, it was effective against attacks that have the power of Rank 3 Spells

Since the Rune is a defensive one that can automatically save lives, it was more expensive than other runes!
