Magic With You

Nighttime arrived but Calter didn't sleep at all. He was just laying in his bed with his eyes closed but he was not really sleeping. Calter only did this so that Kence will not be worried about him

In fact, Kence doesn't have any plans on sleeping earlier. Only when he saw Calter 'sleeping' did Kence starts to sleep. After all, Calter helped him a lot before, and even in this mission, Calter is the main character, how can Kence not be worried about him?

There is also another reason why Calter wasn't able to sleep. His acute danger sense is warning him and Calter knew better than to ignore it. Soon, Calter found out that this decision of his is the correct one

In the middle of the dark night, a figure wearing a black robe on his whole body and a mask on his face can be seen sprinkling some green dust around that the wind carried away

The weird thing is that that figure was sprinkling the dust in the area around where Calter and Kence are currently staying

That man's supply seemed endless as dust and dust were thrown by him

After the man finished sprinkling the dust around the inn, he then starts sprinkling in towards the people inside that inn

Soon, the man finished and started his real plan. He stood in the side of the inn before he starts walking through the walls

With enough mana control, walking through walls is an easy thing to do. After some time, the man reached the windows of the room where Calter and Kence are located

The man muttered something under his breath before two vines came out from his palms. The vines silently poked holes in the window and continued to approach their target

Too bad for him that Calter is not really asleep and sensed his attack. As of now, Calter has some ideas of how this town became a fertile land when it was barren before

Calter can feel something from his attacker's magic but he needs to totally confirm it first. If his hypothesis was proven correct, then he needs to do everything he can to remain alive as the danger level might not be something a mere Magic Knight can take

As soon as the vines reached dangerously close to Calter, the man opened his eyes and covered his palms with shadow flame that he uses to burn the vines

The vines should have been destroyed easily but it was more durable than what Calter expected. If it's just that, Calter won't care much and he'll just think that the enemy is stronger

However, couple that with his earlier hypothesis...

Calter immediately moved his body away and the vines only managed to poke a hole in the bed he was in just a second ago before he shouted

"Kence! Wake up!" Calter said with urgency before he senses magic fluctuations behind him

When Calter looked behind him, he saw Kence was already awake and shards of ice flew out from his palm and it has their attacker as the target

"Y-you're awake?" Calter asked in surprise and Kence pursed his lips. "You won't say anything to me and I figured that the danger might be higher than I thought and I decided not to sleep. Hmph! Don't underestimate me!" Kence replied grumpily much to Calter's bitterness

Even with Kence's surprise attack, the enemy was still managed to react as a piece of wood appeared in front of him that he uses to block Kence's attacks

"How did you know we are here, Gam?" Calter asked and the man's body visibly trembled before tens of sharp vines appeared around his body that he uses to attack the two

Calter retrieved his sword from his spatial ring and covered it with his dark energies and used it to cut the vines

"I thought you were a Magic Swordsman?" Calter asked again and the enemy's attack became even more frenzied

A sword with a green handle appeared on Gam's hand and he shot his body towards Calter, fully destroying the windows in the process

"Hmph!" Calter harrumphed and his sword clashed with Gam's sword

With Calter's effort, his physique is the same as normal Rank 2 Magic Swordsman but he was still pushed back by his enemy's sword. Calter can even feel pressure in his arms from the impact

If this goes on, Calter would be overpowered by his enemy. Fortunately, Calter is not alone and Kence made another move again

"[Ice Magic: Rising Ice!!]" From below the enemy, sharp pieces of ice grew but the man only uses his foot and it easily smashed Kence's ice into pieces

However, that action of his lowered his sword's power and Calter managed to break free from him

"[Dark Magic: Darkness Ball!]" Calter raised his left hand and five large balls of darkness appeared above him. Each of them has the size of five basketball combined and he threw them towards the enemy

Gam moved away first before he muttered some words under his breath. Five human-size flowers immediately sprouted around the man and they 'swallowed' the darkness balls before their colors turned into black

After that, the flower shot small black balls towards Kence and Calter

"You're not a Magic Swordsman, right?" Calter said in more of a statement than a question while continuously slashing his sword in the air to destroy the small black balls

As for Kence, he made small balls of ice too and that canceled out the enemy's attack

Calter's words angered the enemy and the petals from the flowers around detached themselves and they all flew towards him

"Your physique is strong even amongst the Magic Swordsman but you are not one you are .... a Paladin!"

Paladin!

In Enchanted Star Realm they are simply those that believe in a God and gained some of their powers. The Paladins back at that realm was only slightly stronger than normal mages. However, the real Paladins are far stronger than normal mages!

Even this person that Calter assumed as Gam is still far from the power of a real Paladin as he is living in Escardon Realm

The existence of the Gods is not a secret in the universe. In fact, everyone knows it. However! In one half of the universe, any believer of a God is persecuted and Escardon Realm is a part of that

Here, any God believers are looked down upon and everyone can kill them. Being a believer is illegal! That is a sin that will even be passed down to the whole family and their future offsprings

One can say that believing in a God is one of the gravest sin one can commit in the place one half of the universe

Escardon Realm is simply too weak compared to other realms and Calter doesn't know the true story. All he knows is that mages strived to learn the truths of the world and in the process, they will gain the strength of their own

However, those that believe in God will get their power mostly from their Gods. And if the Gods have enough followers, they can enslave all the people in the Universe. That is why any believer would immediately be killed

After all, who would want to be a slave?

If the word comes out that Gam is a believer, a lot of people would surely make sure that he will die

"A-a P-Paladin?" Kence asked in surprise before remembering all the attacks that Gam has made so far

Kence was focused on the fight and didn't think much about other things but now that he heard Calter's words, he realizes Gam's attacks have a different feeling on it

It was the attack's aura! It was different than normal magic and it feels more majestic than usual. It's like it was a power that is superior to magic

Now, things cleared up. The reason why the town flourished was because of a God's power. If this was known to other people, this town would surely be a goner. The punishment for relying on God's power is so severe that even the Three Great Kings and the Head Master will make a move

However, that is with the premise that Calter and Kence will survive

The strength of the believers of Gods in a realm like Escardon Realm is limited as the truly strong mages are keeping the Gods in check. Thus, Gods' influence is restricted making their believers weaker than normal

But .... that is still a God! A being that can kill millions of Magic Knights like Kence and Calter. If that God blessed Gam enough, his power would be more than enough to kill the two

This is the reason why Calter was worried. A Paladin can be weak or strong depending on how much effort a God will exert

"Since you two know my secrets, you two need to die!" Gam said and more flowers bloomed around him

"Kence get out of this room! We need a bigger space!" Calter shouted before shadow flames spread from his feet and that covered a large part of the room

Being in a place with limited space wouldn't be good for the two as Gam made too many flowers around and they will not have enough space to move
