Mutant Farmer in The Apocalypse

Chapter 53 - Poddie (2)

Yang Zhang woke up the following day with full energy. When he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Poddie hugging his nose, sleeping while using his full pea pod bag as a pillow.

He carefully pulled Poddie from his nose and got up, ready for the day once more. The sun was hitting the holes in the ceiling, and he patted his pets to wake up.

"Wake up, guys. Don't you want to kill some zombies today?"

Chestnut and Lt. Spicy Wing opened their eyes instantly. They stood in front of Yang Zhang like two soldiers ready for battle.

"Chirp!"

"Squeak!"

"Hehe, you guys are really eager to slay some zombies, huh?" Yang Zhang checked Little Ivy, already wrapping her vines around Yang Zhang's arms.

"Viii…"

"It's okay, Ivy. You can always hide inside my arm, I will protect you—unless I'm in real danger and really require your help, of course," Yang Zhang said. He checked the last pet that was still sleeping.

He patted Poddie's head gently, "Wake up, little guy. We have a lot to do today."

"Pii…" Poddie opened his eyes slowly and stared at his master for a few seconds before sprung up full of excitement.

"Pii! Piii!" Podio grabbed his pea pod bag and tried to drag it towards Yang Zhang, even though it was really heavy for him now.

"Huh? What's that?"

"Pii!" Poddie pushed the pea pod bag to Yang Zhang and opened the small zipper.

"Piii! Pii!"

"Ohhh!" Yang Zhang was excited when he saw a lot of peas inside the bag. By the first look, he could already determine that the peas were hardened. Hopefully, it was similar to his expectation.

"Everything is for me?"

"Piii!"

Yang Zhang nodded and picked one pea from the bag. He tried to pinch it and realized that it was really tough and relatively heavy, just like a steel bullet.

Thud.

Yang Zhang dropped the pea on the wooden floor, and it made a sound similar to a steel bullet falling on the wooden surface.

'So it's really similar to a bullet,' Yang Zhang thought. He picked it up and put it inside his gauntlet gun, and it was a perfect fit.

Yang Zhang aimed at the ceiling and pulled the trigger.

BANG!

Crack!

The pea bullet shot high and pierced through the wooden ceiling, making a peephole on the ceiling.

It was definitely stronger than using pebble, probably because the pea shape was perfectly round. It really helped the strength when it was propelled with the gauntlet gun.

"Whoa—WHOA!" Yang Zhang was excited about this finding. He grabbed Poddie and rubbed the little pea plant cheek to cheek. "Poddie, you're amazing! You basically gave me a lot of ammo!"

"Pii! Pii! Piii!" Poddie was also rejoicing because he could be of use for his master.

Truthfully, Yang Zhang's first thought had something similar to a peashooter from Plant Vs. Zombie, a plant that could continuously shoot pea bullets.

But with Poddie here, he could stock hundreds of deadly pea ammo for his gauntlet gun. It was still a win condition for him!

Yang Zhang quickly grabbed the pea pod bag and poured all the bullets inside his gauntlet gun's bullet chamber or magazine.

When his bullet chamber was already full, he put the pea bullets inside his jeans pocket as well, just to be sure. Then he gave the bag back to Poddie, "Thank you so much, Poddie!"

"Pii!" Podio happily accepted his empty bag now.

Yang Zhang didn't know how many pea bullets Poddie made overnight, so he asked, "How many peas can you make inside your bag, Poddie?"

"Pii, Pii, Pii!"

"Oh, so you can store as many as possible overnight and only at night?"

"Pii!"

"Hmmm, that means the only detriment was how safe you feel, right?"

"Pii!"

Yang Zhang wondered a bit about that information, though. Since they were literally in an abandoned cottage with zombies still walking around out there. But Poddie seemed to be safe enough to produce hundreds of bullets. There must be something that made him feel absolutely safe to produce a lot of it.

"Well, no matter. That means Poddie is useful! All of my pets are very useful—except for that wiggling rose in our hut, she is pretty useless," Yang Zhang said. "Alright, gang, do you want to go full-on Rambo now or have breakfast first?"

"Chirp!"

"Squeak! Squeak!"

"Ah, okay, then, let's have breakfast first before we go into the fray!"

**

After the preparation was ready, Yang Zhang sat on a branch in a tall tree. He was still on the west side of this village, and those zombies that he killed last night had disappeared after 12 hours.

Zombies without their Brain beads would rot and melt by themselves, turning into liquid. Not even bones were left.

But their spots were taken by other zombies. No matter how many times ability users tried to kill them, the number of zombies seemed to never end.

"Alright, here's what we're going to do. Poddie, Ivy, stay hidden under my sleeve and tote bag," Yang Zhang said as he knew that Little Ivy was still terrified with zombies, and Poddie had no fighting capability.

"Vii!"

"Pii!"

"Chestnut, you're the eye of this mission. Remember that you should sit on my shoulder and look around if there is any surprise zombie attack like what happened in that village? I will keep using my gauntlet gun to take them one by one."

"Squeak!"

"Remember, you can always jump and zap their brain quickly, but after that, you must return back to me, got it?"

"Squeak! Squeak!"

"And you, Lieutenant Spicy Wing, you should be ready for any aggressor if there is any big zombie around. I know that you need time to charge yourself. That's why you should try to keep your movement and keep flapping your small wings. It should at least be enough in case of urgent emergency, okay?"

"Chirp!" Spicy Wing gave General Yang Zhang a salute, ready for the attack against the zombies.

"Okay, my little friends, we can do this! Let's go!"
