39. Chapter 39: The Faint Blocks

“Alright, I’ve told you everything that I know of. Anyway, don’t worry. Despite the demons, spirits and ghosts coveting you, we, the servants of the heaven, will try our best to help you.”

The White Guard patted Xia Mingyu on the shoulder consolingly, “You must remember to talk with your soul-keeper and find out what your mission is, or you may be eradicated by the heaven.”

“…” Xia Mingyu sighed in his heart. He couldn’t understand why such a heavy mission was assigned to him. He only wanted to live a peaceful life… Whatever. He would act according to the situation and try his best to complete the mission.

“Thank you. Then, how should I go back into my body?”

“Your soul-keeper will help you. Just follow us.”

Xia Mingyu looked at the surrounding mist and felt so perturbed. He didn’t know what his mission was. If it was difficult or even beyond his ability, what should he do?

Sent back to the mortal world by the Black Guard and White Guard, he saw Wu Jiuge placing candle lights around his body and got rather confused about the situation. The setting seemed like a ritual to transmute and absolve the sufferings of the deceased. “What is this?”

The White Guard glanced at the setting and said casually, “Oh, that’s the Seven-star Lamp for bringing one’s life back, which is the same as the configuration set before Zhuge Liang died. It seems that your soul-keeper wants to save your life. However, it’s not about time yet. Don’t go there for now. When I push you in a moment, you must quickly enter your body. If you miss the opportunity, I can’t help you then.”

“Okay. Thanks a lot.” Xia Mingyu nodded and then watched Wu Jiuge setting the configuration. The radiance of the Seven-star Lamp made his body a bit vague. Then he saw that his wounds were gone. Perhaps Wu Jiuge had cured the wounds…

After a short while, the Seven-star Lamp gave out the brightest light and shortly after that, the dazzling light quickly headed towards Xia Mingyu’s body. The moment that the light entered his body, the White Guard pushed him abruptly, “Go in there!”

Due to a powerful pull, Xia Mingyu went back into his body somehow. Meanwhile,  Zhao Yun,  currently far away in Luoyang, suddenly opened his eyes. Mu Feng, who was with him, asked, “What do you feel? Do you feel him?”

“Yes. He is in the northwest.” Zhao Yun said with certainty, but the connection between him and Xia Mingyu was still not strong enoug. He could only capture a bit of weak connection but he couldn’t locate where Xia Mingyu was now.

Seeing Zhao Yun frustrated look, Mu Feng patted him on the shoulder, saying consolingly, “It doesn’t matter. At least you’ve sensed his direction. I will ask my friends to look for him in the cities of the northwest. We will find him.”

Zhao Yun nodded. He woke up this morning and found that Xia Mingyu was missing. They searched for him in the entire villa and also asked Sun Yaxin to check the surveillance but they only saw that Xia Mingyu ran towards the back mountain alone. What happened there was quite strange. When they arrived there in a hurry, they found nothing and only the eight-tailed cat spirit felt the remaining strong demonic power.

He was worried that Xia Mingyu had been eaten by the demon, but the blood deed did not show anything. Mu Feng said that this was a good sign, which proved that Xia Mingyu was still alive, and then asked him to search for Xia Mingyu with his own power. He had been sitting in the room for a whole day, and finally captured the Qi of Xia Mingyu now.

Zhao Yun didn’t know how Xia Mingyu was now. The demon didn’t eat him. Then why did it keep him? Did it want to torture him? Upon thinking of losing Xia Mingyu again, Zhao Yun felt so upset.

“Don’t worry. He is still alive.” Mu Feng comforted him. It was getting darker and darker outside the window. Sun Yaxin was watching TV on the sofa when his micro-earphone hung on his ear beeped suddenly.

“Umm, yes, he’s missing. It doesn’t matter. Zhao Yun will find him. How’s Gongjin? He is awake? Oh, that’s great. I’ll find time to go back. Don’t worry, I won’t be found.” (Words from the author: If you still can’t guess who Sun Yaxin is, I don’t know what else I can do. This hint is much more obvious than last time, right? )

A bit of dark red gleam flashed across his inky peach eyes. Sun Yaxin hung up the phone, stretched himself, and went to sleep.

Xia Mingyu suddenly opened his eyes and sat up in shock. Instantly, he bumped into the arms of Wu Jiuge and accidentally banged his forehead on the jaw of Wu Jiuge. Xia Mingyu lowered his head to cover his head, “Uh, sorry about that.”

“It’s okay.” Wu Jiuge in drag was shorter than his actual look, so Xia Mingyu only bumped into his jaw. Assumingly, if Wu Jiuge changed to his female look, Xia Mingyu was only tall enough to bump into his chest.

Wu Jiuge bit a finger of his right hand to write a spell with blood on the forehead of Xia Mingyu. Xia Mingyu only felt the heat in his forehead so strongly that he wanted to wipe it but he still held it back. He knew that Wu Jiuge would not hurt him.

“You are fine now.” Wu Jiuge finished drawing the last stroke and said to Xia Mingyu indifferently. Then he looked at Sam who was squatting in the corner of the room. Xia Mingyu did not know what had happened, but he was quite puzzled that he didn’t see the teenager.

Xia Mingyu wanted to ask about it when Xiao Yu brought the ghost boy and gave it to Wu Jiuge: “Hey, Wu Jiuge, how to deal with this ghost boy?”

Xia Mingyu was stunned to see the ghost boy and subconsciously retreated. It was Wu Jiuge who was behind his back. As he moved backwards, they got even closer. The air that Wu Jiuge exhaled was around his ear, making him flurried.

The ghost boy was also scared at the sight of Xia Mingyu, tryint to stay away from him by jiggling its feet. Xiao Yu patted its butt. “Behave well!”

“Yu, don’t bully the child.” Tufu in the original shape of a white rabbit fluttered on the top of Xiao Yu’s head. In order to cure Xia Mingyu, it didn’t even have the ability to maintain the shape of human being, so its voice sounded quite weak. Xiao Yu snorted and sat on the chair with her legs crossed.

Wu Jiuge ignored Xiao Yu and only looked at Sam, asking, “On the 24th of the previous month, what did you do in the Swan Lake Hospital?”

Sam’s pale face became even paler, as white as a sheet. Xia Mingyu scratched the back of his head in confusion. She just went to hospital. Why was she afraid?

“You’d better be honest. I am not as patient as Wu Jiuge.” Xiao Yu shook the ghost boy in her hand. Thanks to the burning rhinoceros incense, ordinary people could see the ghost too. Sam was startled and cried out, “I’ll tell everything. I went to the Swan Lake Hospital to have an abortion. I… I was pregnant back then!”

With his pupils shrinking, Xia Mingyu sat up in shock. “Are you kidding me? Are you even an adult? How…” He didn’t know what to say next but to give a surprised look. For him, it was really beyond his understanding why Sam did that. It was bad enough that she conceived a baby. But why did she have to abort it? The baby was innocent.

The baby had to perish in its mother’s womb before having a chance to see the world outside. How could she do that… Why were the adults all like that? The kids did nothing wrong but they were either aborted or abandoned… Such irresponsible adults should be executed…

Feeling that Xia Mingyu didn’t look alright with his eyes getting purple, Wu Jiuge raised his hand to place on his eyes and held him into his arms, saying to Sam, “Talk in details.”

Sam nodded and then talked about her past tremblingly. Sam’s parents were divorced and she lived with her mother. It was her mother who supported the family by peddling goods. Sam was aware that her mother was rather tired and earned quite little, so she did part-time jobs in her spare time. However, she couldn’t get a job because she was not an adult and child laborer was not acceptable.

Afterwards, her family’s debts grew heavier and heavier, for which her mother was exhausted with her hard all white. The family was at the end of the rope. Sam had to drop out of school because she couldn’t afford  the tuition. Then, her mother fell ill but they had no money to buy medicine. She was wandering in the street when she met a man, who told her that as long as she followed him and listened to him, her family’s condition would get better.

As an innocent girl, she took the man’s words for real and then even slept with him… She did receive help from the man and worked as a waitress in Xinhe Restaurant. Her monthly salary was just enough to support her family’s meals. She was grateful to the man, but a month ago, she found that she was pregnant…

She didn’t dare to tell her family so she had to turn to the man herself. However, the man told her that he was goofing around with her only and even warned her not to disturb him again, or she would get into trouble. She knew that the man meant what he said so she didn’t dare to take the risk. She hated this man and his baby too. Therefore, she decided to have the abortion on her own…

She went to the Swan Lake Hospital for abortion. After the abortion was finished, she was regretful. She knew that it had nothing to do with the baby, but she didn’t have time to think about it. She didn’t have much money left on her after paying for the abortion, so she could only ask for help. Unexpectedly, someone sent her a parcel, telling her that as long as she sacrificed the ghost boy, she could make the family well-off. She was half-skeptical, but she did it anyway. That was why the situation became like this now.

The ghost boy in Xiao Yu’s hand burst out crying and struggling to go to Sam by waving its hands. Xiao Yu looked at Wu Jiuge and then released her hand after seeing his indifferent look. The ghost boy suddenly jumped into Sam’s arms, making her terrified first. However, as she found that the ghost boy only hugged her and called “mom” instead of hurting her.

“Baby? You are my baby?” Sam gradually turned delighted rather than feeling frightened. Then guilt just welled up in her heart. Finally she cried with the ghost boy in her arms. Xia Mingyu felt so sad. He had never met his parents, or even a relative of his. He had nothing but a mission that was unbearable. He didn’t even have someone to talk with…

“Since you’ve recognized each other, I should send it away next.” Wu Jiuge said and then put off the rhinoceros incense aside. Xia Mingyu turned around and found that the Black Guard and White Guard were still there, who were seemingly waiting for Wu Jiuge to say that. The White Guard threw out his chain and wrapped around the neck of the ghost boy with it. The ghost boy cried and cried, hoping to stay. Sam held it tightly, but as the effect of the rhinoceros incense gradually disappeared, she was unable to see and touch the ghost boy.
