40. Chapter 40: Seven Sufferings in the Mortal World

Xia Mingyu, a little touched, wanted to help Sam, so he turned to Wu Jiaoge. “Well, can’t we let them stay a while longer? After all, they’ve just recognized each other. Is it too rutheless to make them part from each other?”

Sam kept begging but Wu Jiuge didn’t say a word. Xiao Yu snorted and said scornfully, “You think that it is ruthless? She couldn’t afford to raise the child, so she aborted it. Now she still wants to hinder child from reincarnation. On what ground can she do so? With a tiny bit of guilt?”

“I…” Xia Mingyu was speechless, and Xiao Yu continued saying, “There are many ruthless things in the world. Do you want to interfere with them all? To be honest, if she delays the child’s reincarnation due to her maternal love on the spur of the moment, it will be really ruined and not even be able to be reincarnated. Do you still think it’s wrong to separate them?”

Xia Mingyu was silent, and then closed his eyes to stay away from the scene. Sam’s cries were still lingering around his ears. He felt heartache and then apathetic. Even after the Black Guard and White Guard left with the ghost boy and Xiao Yu also sent Sam away, he still couldn’t calm down.

He suddenly felt like crying, but he didn’t want to cry in front of Wu Jiuge…

“Young Master.” Wu Jiuge just spoke when he was interrupted by Xia Mingyu. “Can you… Can you leave me alone? I’m tired. I want to sleep…”

Wu Jiuge was stunned and then nodded, “Yes.” Then Wu Jiuge left the room and closed the door. After the light was turned off, he was alone, as always…

“Woo… Woo…” Holding the cold Tiyue Tang Sword, Xia Mingyu started to sob in a low voice. He didn’t ask for much. All he wanted was a warm home. Why couldn’t he?

The moonlight outside the window cast on the body of Xia Mingyu. He kept crying and then fell asleep. Just like when he was in the lab of the Zhao Family, no one accompanied him or comforted him!

There were seven sufferings in the mortal world—living, aging, illness, death, staying with resented people or things, parting from the lover and failure to fulfill the wish… Sam was alive and the ghost boy was not, involving hatred and parting. They experienced two kinds of sufferings but these sufferings happened for a reson, which would be resolved in the end. However, as the chosen one with the Heavenly Soul, maybe Xia Mingyu was fated to experience all the seven sufferings this life.

The next morning, Wu Jiuge came to wake up Xia Mingyu on time. They had breakfast together and set foot on the road to Luoyang. Xia Mingyu was silent all the way and Wu Jiuge also didn’t like talking, which upset Xiao Yu and Tufu. One was poker-faced and the other was indifferent.

Tufu was still in the original shape of rabbit. Looking at Xia Mingyu in low spirits, it jumped into his arms and rubbed Xia Mingyu with its soft fur. “Mingyu, Don’t be sad. Sam and the ghost boy can’t be together. They are not fated to be a mother and a son, but it is not a bad thing for them to part. You can stroke my fur. Don’t be unhappy.”

Tufu was still too innocent so it was not good at comforting others. But her words still keep Xia Mingyu distracted. He puckered his lips and reached out stroke its fur. The white short fur was soft and smooth, making him feel very comfortable. Xia Mingyu thought that Zhao Yun also liked touching his head. He started to wonder whether it was the same as touching an animal…

Unknowingly he gave a smile. He pinched Tufu’s claws and returned it to Xiao Yu, who was staring at him. “Thank you, Tufu. I feel much better now.”

“You are welcome. Tufu is not only a skilled doctor but also an agony aunt.” Xiao Yu felt rather proud, as if Tufu were a domestic pet of hers. Xia Mingyu couldn’t help smiling, with a pair of gleaming eyes.

However, the lively atmosphere of staying with Xiao Yu and Tufu disappeared at the border between Xinjiang and Ningxia, because Xiao Yu had to go back due to a message from Qingqiu. Therefore, she left with Tufu. Xia Mingyu took a look at Wu Jiuge, who was aloof and sighed in his heart. He didn’t want to stay with Wu Jiuge alone, for he didn’t know how to make a conversation.

The train headed towards Ningxia. Looking at the scenery outside, Xia Mingyu finally decided to speak first. The Black Guard and White Guard were right. He had to figure out what his mission was so that he could move on.

“Wu Jiuge, can you tell me what mission I have to conduct as the chosen one with the Heavenly Soul?” Lying on the bed in the train, Xia Mingyu moved inwards uncomfortably. Probably in order to keep a watch on him, Wu Jiuge slept on the same bed with him. As long as they turned around, they were pretty close to each other.

Yes, as Xiao Yu left, Wu Jiuge immediately removed his disguise. Now Wu Jiuge, lying with him, was 1.8 meters plus tall. If he slightly moved, Xia Mingyu had nowhere to hide then.

Xia Mingyu held the Tiyue Tang Sword, which was cast with the cloaking spell by Xiao Yu, in his arms, waiting quietly for Wu Jiuge to explain. Wu Jiuge lowered his head to look at the young man, saying with a disgruntled voice,  “Who told you to ask?”

“Ah?” Xia Mingyu was stunned for the moment, looking up at Wu Jiuge in a daze. How weird! Shouldn’t he deserve to know about it?  “Should every generation of the chosen one with the Heavenly Soul deserve to know about this? If I don’t know what the mission is, will I be eradicated by the heaven?”

There seemed to be a storm in the dark eyes of Wu Jiuge. Xia Mingyu recoiled his head and didn’t understand what he had done to irritate him. After a while, Wu Jiuge said, “Leave it alone. I’ll see to it. Just go to sleep.”

Hey, how could he sleep in the middle of the day? Besides, it was about his survival. Why couldn’t he know about it?

“But…” Xia Mingyu still wanted to argue back. Suddenly, Wu Jiuge held his head and put his forehead against Xia Mingyu’s. “I won’t hurt you, or… You don’t even trust me?”

Feeling startled, Xia Mingyu shook his head and whispered, “No. I trust you. I won’t ask then…”

With a rustling sound coming from aside, Xia Mingyu looked aside and found that Wu Jiuge got up. Xia Mingyu couldn’t help grabbing his clothes. “Wait… Wait a minute. Where are you going?” Because of the previous unpleasant conversation, he was suddenly afraid that Wu Jiuge would leave him alone.

Wu Jiuge lowered his head and kissed him in the middle of his eyebrows, saying casually, “Young Master, I won’t leave you alone, but now, I have to deal with something. Stay here and don’t run about.”

Having said that, he left. The noisy voices of the other passengers around him kept coming and the crowd gradually overwhelmed Wu Jiuge. Xia Mingyu lay back on the bed, unable to figure out what else to deal with on the train.

The faint Yin Qi air permeated the air. Xia Mingyu suddenly realized what Wu Jiuge left for doing, but why would Wu Jiuge volunteer to deal with these trifles? Didn’t he only act because someone asked him for help or he could gain something in return. Since when was he so proactive?

Or was it that his question made Wu Jiuge sad? So he went to vent his anger on some ghosts? How was it possible? Wu Jiuge was such an indifferent person. Would he care about what Xia Mingyu said?

“I’m the only person you can trust in this world…”

He kept in mind what Wu Jiuge told him. Xia Mingyu held tightly his Tiyue Tang Sword and pondered whether he had gone too far. Meanwhile, he was wondering how he could accomplish his mission since Wu Jiuge didn’t let him know about it. If he couldn’t accomplish it, how bad would the consequence be?

Oh gosh! What a nuisance! Xia Mingyu scratched his hair restlessly and fell into a trance on the bed. Somehow, he fell asleep in the end.

When Xia Mingyu woke up, it was quiet and other passengers were also asleep. Wu Jiuge was not back yet. Xia Mingyu became worried and got off bed only to find a lot of people scattered on the ground, which took him aback. He squatted down to feel the breath of one of the people. He was all dead!

Unbelievably he went to check the breath of other people. As expected, they were all dead. Xia Mingyu took a few steps back in horror. He had a sleep only. Why did this happen when he woke up?

The whole train was silent and gloomy. Holding the Tiyue Tang Sword, Xia Mingyu started to search for Wu Jiuge. He was worried that something untoward happened to Wu Jiuge, so he turned over every one of the people lying on the ground and found that Wu Jiuge was not among them. He was finally slightly relieved.

“Wu Jiuge! Where are you?” He called the name of Wu Jiuge anxiously but he could not get any answer. This made Xia Mingyu even more afraid. Although the people around him had no breath now, they didn’t become ghosts. He did not know what happened or what he should do next. The only solution was to find Wu Jiuge as soon as possible.

“There’s food. I found it!” As a gust of Yin wind blew by, Xia Mingyu subconsciously unsheathed the Tiyue Tang Sword. The Yin wind hit the blade, which enabled Xia Mingyu to see the original shape. It was a big worm with a long tail, as long as one or two meters, flying in the air. It was weirdly grey all over its body but its 50-cm-long head was full of small feet. Stretching its chelae, it bit at him. If it were not for the Tiyue Tang Sword, half of Xia Mingyu’s head would be cut off.

“Food! Food!” The big worm screamed excitedly, which sounded like a toddler. Yet, its voice was a bit hoarse and queer, giving people goose bumps.

Xia Mingyu raised the sheath to hit the worm and then stabbed the worm’s brain with his Tiyue Tang Sword. The big worm screamed with a squeak and kept wriggling its body. Disgusting green liquid splashed out of the stab wound constantly. Xia Mingyu held back the nausea and stepped on the worm’s head. Then he stabbed harshly with his Tiyue Tang Sword for tens of times. Finally, the worm didn’t move at all. Xia Mingyu finally vomitted aside.

“Cough…” Xia Mingyu finished vomiting and gargled with the bottled water in his bag. Then he walked by the corpse of the long worm and continued to walk forward. Behind his back, a shadow floated above the long worm. The shadow gradually turned tangible and the corpse of the long worm disappeared on the ground. In the air another long worm was wriggling…
