Omegaverse: The Alpha X’s Prey
Chapter 30 - the vial
"Mark, we need to go." Donovan grabbed Mark's hand and bolted out the door, ignoring the professor's shouting threats of failing the both of them as they streaked down the hall
"Is it…?" Mark had no trouble keeping up with the omega, being a track athlete and all.
"Yes and he's made contact with Easton." Donovan's voice was strained as he made a sharp corner, nearly colliding with the door of his destination.
This factor is definitely a major setback to their original plans.
Behind the door is a sturdy grey concrete staircase that leads down into the university's only underground and abandoned lab. There was a leak a few months back and the school board deemed the lab unsafe for future use.
Unfortunately, either by laziness or lack of funds, the university hasn't filled the basement. But that works out well for the omega.
It is the perfect hiding place for Donovan's side experiments. The pair raced down the stairs, grabbing the safety masks hanging conveniently on the rails.
By the time they reach the abandoned room, they have their masks on and dart to the corner. The darkest area of the room.
The dank smell of moss and bacteria seeps through the mask. Every time Donovan comes down here, he is reminded of how the basement of his house used to smell like, that is until Gabrielle built Easton's room.
The thought of the creature known as his twin brother inside Easton's room makes Donovan rummage around the rusty metal locker faster.
Just like Maverick's prison, the university decided on a one color scheme for the entire room. Instead of white, it used to be a light grey. But under the harsh conditions of the leak, the color darkened fifty shades of grey.
Now, combined with the lack of electrical lights and the dampness, the abandoned chemistry lab looked akin to a prison cell. A haunted one at that. Since the closure of the lab, many students have been gossiping about the real reason. Those rumors escalated and now the majority of the student population believes there's an apparition hanging around.
Donovan internally rolled his eyes. Apparition his ȧss. He's seen scarier things than a neglected room. Much less a measly ghost.
"I found it." Donovan pulled out small vial of glowing green solution hidden deep in the locker. The substance brightly shone in contrast to the dark room. Precisely why Donovan went the extra step when hiding it.
He doesn't need a drunk student fumbling around the lab on a dare and seeing a suspiciously glowing green light.
"We don't even have the gun yet. How are we going to-" Mark abruptly stopped and watched in horror as he saw Donovan rip his mask off to drink the solution in one go.
Before Mark could do anything, Donovan's eyes immediately rolled back and his body began to uncontrollably convulse. The omega tried to find balance, but the lack of clean air and the green solution made it virtually impossible.
Mark scooped Donovan into his arms and dashed to the door, cursing Donovan in his mind. Every single time. This happens every. single. time.
Why must Donovan use extreme methods? Every. Single. time?
Luckily it was still class time. The halls are conveniently empty, but the security cameras… Well, Mark will just have to explain to the principle and school officials why he's running out of the campus during school hours in an air cleansing mask, holding a very sick omega.
Mark reached his personal car in three minutes flat. As he struggled to make Donovan comfortable, he noticed that the omega's ivory fingers still clutched onto the vial tightly. Curious, he gently pried it out of Donovan's tight grasp and wafted it.
This… this is…!
He looked at the omega in horror and decided that comfort in a car isn't Donovan's priority. As though sensing Mark's panic, Donovan struggled to sit up.
"No… hospital…" Donovan bȧrėly managed to wheeze out.
"This has Anti-X in it. You're going to a hospital." Mark snapped as he started the car. The small white civic rumbled to life and Mark slammed his foot on the gas pedal. Tires squealed, and Donovan was flung into Mark's ŀȧp from the sudden motion.
"Trust… me…" Donovan tried again as he blacked out, too dizzy to combat the darkness.. Believe it or not, Donovan knows what he is doing, he understood the risk when he drank from the vial.
