Chapter 111 - 111: Grief Part 2

"Mom, Mom," a young Leo was excitedly calling out for his mother. "Look, I made a paper plane."

His busy mother stopped what she was doing to pay attention to her proud son. She made an amused expression which made Leo more proud of himself.

"My, my," young Leo gave the paper plane to his mother. "Should we test it?"

Leo, along with his beautiful mother, went out to their garden. The weather seems to be on Leo's side at that time.. It was a windy day. The sky filled with ash-colored clouds that were full of all the evaporated water. The water will soon drench the whole Earth and quench the thirst of all the living things whose throats and soils have dried.

"Here you go."

Enthusiastically, Leo threw the paper plane. It set out freely going along with the wind. It didn't stop there. The paper plane got swept up, up in the sky.

"Mom, I want to become a pilot and take you to places you've never been."

His mother patted him on his head. She lowered herself and looked her son in the eye with a smile on her face. "Really? Then, I'd gladly wait for you to become one."

Leo's dream of being a pilot was long lost forgotten. Everything had changed ever since his father vanished. All the hopes and dreams were just a bitterly sweet memory of the past.

Leo and the others were the only people present inside the room where his mother lose her life. He motioned them to give him some time alone with his mother after resurrecting her back to life and, they all agreed to it. He also told them not to let anyone in.

Leo gave himself a moment of silence to mourn for his mother. He blankly stared at his lifeless mother and was lost in his train of thoughts. Her face looks so peaceful and young. One would think that she's in her mid 20's when she's already in her late 30's.

"Why?" Leo wasn't asking anyone but himself. "Why am I not feeling anything?! Why don't I feel sorrow nor grief towards my Mom?! Why can't I mourn for her?! Is it because I have a way of bringing her back to life? Or, did I completely lost my emotions? Then, what were that tears from earlier?"

His thoughts were all jumbled. He was confused about his emotions. Whether there was one or there was nothing. But he's still going to revive his mother, even if his mother feels like he's her master. One that she should pledge loyalty forever. One that she should serve for all eternity. And, he doesn't want that.

[Would you like to resurrect your mother? Y/N]

"Please do."

[...]

He closed his eyes. He's too afraid to look at how the resurrection process goes. He heard a slight gasp from his father, a sign that she has come back to life.

"Leo, my son, is that you?" How long has it been since he last heard his mother's voice?

Leo opened his eyes only to see that his mother was crying.

"Mom, why are you crying?" Leo gave her mother a handkerchief. "How are you feeling, Mom?"

"I feel fine." She looked around, "where's Tom, your brother?"

Just when Leo wasn't feeling anything, he felt a little prick in his chest. The pain of failing to protect his brother struck him.

"Mom, it's a long story. For now, let's go home first."

'Thank God, I still have emotions. I thought that I became a stone inside. Thank God that I'm still a human at heart.'
