Pokémon: Reborn As Lucas

Chapter 10 - Battle preparations

"So where do we battle?" (Barry)

"I don't know but I am sure we can't battle in here so let's move out."(Lucas)

Before they could move out however they were stopped by Professor Rowan. He stood in their way and had an idea.

"I really want to wittness the first battle between the two of you ! But only battling for fun is not good. Let's spice things up and add a little reward.." (Prof.Rowan)

"Really? We get to battle for the first time AND get a reward?" said Barry with eyes wide open. Professor thought for a bit when his view suddenly fell on the Pokéball that was left.

Remembering what Lucas previously said to him, he thought that he might aswell give Barry a chance to reverse the situation and teach Lucas a little lesson. It would bring few benefits to Lucas should he win and acquire the Pokémon that was left.

Barry however would later have a much easier time if they were to battle once again.

"The reward shall be the Pokémon that is left! The one of you two that wins the battle will get it.

I already told you that these were already really rare Pokémon but you two are the only ones that will start their journey this year. Therefore the Pokémon that is left over would have to stay here only to wait another year and even then I won't know for sure if it will be picked." (Prof.Rowan)

Seeing them so hyped the Professor told them to follow him....

Soon they arrived in the backyard of the Lab which contained a huge battlefield.

Professor Rowan told them each to choose a side. The battlefield was nothing extraordinary. It was just a flat field with grass as its ground. No obstacles were around that could influence the fight.

As Lucas and Barry went into position Barry had finally calmed down a bit and started to concentrate. Only then did he realize that he did not yet known which Pokémon Lucas chose. As he was about to call out to him he saw Lucas releasing a small, light-blue, penguin-like Pokémon.

It was the water type starter called Piplup. Barry suddenly got anxious as he knew that his Pokémon was at a type disadvantage.

He did not know what kind of moves his or Lucas Pokémon knew. He also suddenly realized that he was too rash in the beginning and should have let Lucas chosen his Pokémon first so that he can have the chance to counter Lucas' starter.

He finally comforted himself when he thought that he at least got to choose his favorite of the three Pokémon and now he was even more determined to win because he has the chance to obtain a second Pokémon which even counters the one that Lucas has.

Meanwhile Lucas brought out Piplup and started introducing himself as his new trainer and partner for their upcoming journey.

"Hello little Piplup. My name is Lucas and I am your new trainer. I hope we will get along well."

It started to look around and saw a blond boy standing on the opposite site of them and speaking with his friend Chimchar. Piplup was happy that Chimchar was chosen but also felt sad as it knew that Turtwig will be left behind.

Seemingly noticing the look on Piplups cute little face Lucas told it that they are about to fight against Chimchar and the blond boy. He also told it that the winner will become the new trainer of Turtwig.

Piplup was now pumped and really wanted to get out there to prove itself to its new trainer. Before it could go out however Lucas called it back to discuss some tactics.

From what he could remember he knew that Chimchar could use the attacks 'Scratch' and 'Leer"

while Piplup could use 'Pound' and 'Growl'. He did not know if that was still the case for these Pokémon because there were already so many differences from what he saw in the game which is why he hesitated a bit.

Finally he decided to come up with a plan. He told Piplup to always be patient and observe his opponent. As Barry was always hot-blooded he knew that he would let his Chimchar attack as soon as the fight beginns.

Furthermore what Lucas could tell was that in these real fights there wont be the role of each Pokémon has to wait one round until it can attack again.

With that in thought he was finally ready to start the fight.

While he was thinking of a strategy, Barry was doing the same. And just like Lucas expected he instructed Chimchar to strike first to end the fight fast.

The only real time experience he had was when he taught his previous pets some moves.

Soon both boys were ready and decided to send their Pokémon out on the field to battle.
