Red Moon Returns

Chapter 91: Pursuers

Behind him was a thin homeless man, covered from head to toe with a piece of dirty and tattered cloth, smelling like he had just been dug out of the garbage for several weeks.

The rags made it hard to see her face, but she was holding a quilt roll in one hand and a one-pound note in the other. The note was wrinkled, and a corner of it was exposed from between her fingers.

I don’t know if he heard Lynch’s reminder, but the homeless man turned around and ran away without looking back.

Homeless people in tattered clothes are not uncommon in Rhine City, but the smell of this man is a bit beyond the tolerance of gentlemen and ladies, and he attracted a round of scolding from the surroundings. When the people around saw him approaching, they subconsciously moved to the side, making way for him while blocking the gaps in other directions.

It should be her, Maya.

I finally saw her.

Lynch was excited and looked around quickly. He found that the people who had been following him were constantly pushing away the pedestrians around and chasing after the homeless man.

It's not good, we're going to be caught.

Lynch's eyes turned, and just then a middle-aged woman was pushed down by the stalker. A man screamed above her: "Ah, why are you hitting someone? Look, someone is hitting someone in public."

Someone immediately surrounded him. Although the blockage was only for one or two seconds, the encirclement also broke a hole. The homeless man was as slippery as a sea snake and quickly got into the crowd.

No, I have to follow him and see.

Worried about an ambush, Lynch hugged little Martha and prepared to follow him. However, before he took a step, he felt the little guy's hand tightly grasping his shoulder, and the person also leaned over his ear.

"No."

Huh? Lynch stopped before he started.

"That's not the reporter sister, I don't know her."

Lynch immediately realized that the banknotes in the man's hand were probably an ordinary homeless man who was temporarily hired as bait.

But since she had already used bait to trick the people who were following her away, the next step...

Immediately looking around, sure enough, another thin figure dressed as a homeless man was hiding in the corner of a building, waving at him and Martha.

This should be the real one, not another homeless man.

Poking Martha to signal her to distinguish, Lynch looked at the homeless people at the entrance of the train station.

Hmm? It seems that because of the commotion, these people also ran away, and now they are nowhere to be seen.

Lynch frowned and didn't think much about it. Seeing little Martha nod excitedly, he looked around to make sure no one was paying attention to him, and then walked quickly to the corner of the building.

It's called a corner, but it's actually the gap between the two buildings of the station, half a meter wide, dark and narrow, with a lot of debris scattered on the ground, dirty and messy.

Lynch walked along the street with the girl in his arms, strode to the corner, but walked straight across the gap, walked a few steps, and turned back suddenly.

The square was still in chaos. The people on the lookout were chasing the escaping bait away. Some blue uniforms who were not sure why were maintaining order in the square, but they did not notice anyone following them.

It should be okay, right? Lynch only learned this level of anti-tracking skills from movies and TV series. Although he was still a little uneasy, he still held his cane tightly and got into the gap.

A person stood in the shadow of the gap. He was petite and dressed in dirty and worn clothes. He wore a baseball cap to cover his eyes and wrapped himself tightly with a scarf. He also exuded a stinky garbage smell, which covered up the rotten smell.

Seeing someone coming in, the figure immediately shrank into the darkness, and then a female voice came: "Martha?"

"Reporter sister? Why did you become like this?" Little Martha looked puzzled.

"Who is he?"

"It's Uncle Lynch, he..."

"Let's go first, let's talk about it after we leave here, there's an ambush."

Lynch interrupted the two women reminiscing about the past. He listened at the gap and then stuck his head out to take a look. The stalkers outside had gone far away and the square returned to peace, but for some reason, Lynch always felt like he was being spied on.

"This way, there's the railroad tracks across the way, follow me."

The female reporter pulled her cap to cover her face and walked into the depths of the gap. Seeing Lynch holding Martha and following closely, she whispered:

"Who are you?"

"The people who want to help you have been chasing you for several days... Your problem is very serious and must be solved as soon as possible."

While Lynch explained his experiences in the past few days in the simplest language, he followed the female reporter through the dark gap. When he looked down on the road, he saw little Martha curled up in his arms, her big blue eyes blinking at him, her face full of surprise and admiration. Lin Qi pinched her little face and leaned against the exit of the gap, peeking out with the female reporter:

"I came here today to contact you and arrange a place to meet and talk in detail. Believe me, I really want to help you, but I can't do it now. I have to send little Martha back first. You should know how weird this is. It is fatal to an ordinary person. Martha, shut up and think about your mother. Leave the rest to me. I promise to do my best to help your reporter sister."

The female reporter was obviously hesitant, but finally looked at little Martha and nodded: "Come with me, I'll tell you where to find me."

Outside is the other side of the station, four long platforms, with several loaded freight cars parked on them. Workers are sweating as they shovel coal into the carriages. There are also seven or eight long rails extending from the platform, extending into the distance.

There were many workers working outside. The female reporter waved to Lin Qi, quietly avoided the workers' sight and went through the connection between the carriages. Then she went along a rusty rail and went deep into the station. In a dilapidated open space, several scrapped carriages covered with weeds were lying there in a mess.

Carriage cemetery, where abandoned carriages are piled up at the train station.

"There will be homeless people staying here at night, but there are few people during the day. After I left the wooden house, I have lived here for the past two days. It should be safe."

The female reporter looked back again. Behind her was a relatively open railroad track. The environment was unobstructed. She was relieved to confirm that no one was following her, and she got into one of the carriages first.

The long carriage felt much more luxurious than the previous life. There were booths surrounded by long sofas, and some of the booths still had traces of life.

"I don't know why you want to help me, just like I don't know what happened to me, but I know you must have a purpose, and I can probably guess something. Listen, I accidentally spied on Grant of the Lower House conspiring with a group of monsters, and also mentioned a strange name, called More... Well, I won't mention it for now. Anyway, I guess you came to me for this matter. Yes, I do know the details, but a few words are definitely not enough. If you want detailed information, you must come back to help me through the difficulties after sending her away."

"Why don't you find the police? With your profession, you should know that there are watchmen in addition to rangers. Don't you trust them?"

The female reporter did not answer, but pointed at Martha. Lynch ignored Martha's protest and consciously covered little Martha's eyes. The female reporter then lifted her hat and pulled down her scarf a little.

The appearance could not be seen, the eyes were cloudy and dark red, the skin on the face had become like rubber, the corners of the mouth were cracked to the roots of the ears, revealing the shark-like sharp teeth inside, which made people shudder.

Fortunately, Lin Qi had seen the photo before, so he was not mentally shocked, but he still felt cold in his heart and sighed softly.

The female reporter touched and pulled up her scarf, led the two people through the long carriage, jumped off the train from the other end, and the three of them circled between the messy abandoned carriages and soon got under the outer wall of the train station. After climbing over the outer wall, they left the scope of the train station, and opposite was the normal street in the cross area.

"Send her away and she must come back to help me." The female reporter's voice suddenly became choked, "I don't want to be like this forever, even if I die, I want to change back and die again."

"I will come back, I promise."

"Well..."

However, before the voice fell, there was a sudden sound of metal friction from behind, which made people feel teeth-ache. The sound was a little far away, as if it was in the hiding place of the female reporter who had just left.

The three of them immediately hid behind the nearest abandoned carriage and peeked carefully, and saw that four sharp claws suddenly stretched out from the top of the metal carriage. The claws were like a hot knife cutting butter, easily cracking the metal shell, turning around the shell, and tearing the carriage in half.

Behind the carriage was a humanoid monster nearly three meters tall, almost the same as in the previous photos. The monster was wearing torn and tattered clothes, and there were a few homeless people following behind him. They were the ones who disappeared at the station entrance before. Some of them had begun to swell and had claws on their hands.

These monsters surrounded the empty carriage and let out angry growls.

Damn it, it turned out that the ghouls had also caught up.
