Special District 9
Chapter 63: Twin Stars of Jiangzhou 1
By the roadside, the eight subordinates had already drawn their guns and aimed them at Qin Yu and Qi Lin. Dong Cheng continued bellowing with a ferocious look on his face, “Ask around! There are at least a thousand fixers in our Jiangzhou region, but which of them dares to mess with our Li Family? You little fucktard, I’m telling you to pull your dynamite! Do it!”
Veins were popping on Qin Yu’s temples. He grasped onto the fake ignition line in his hand nervously, seemingly at a loss as to what to do.
His dynamite was a fake. If the other party wasn’t falling for this trick, there was nothing he could do about it.
“I’ve already told you to sit down and talk it out. We could have had a pleasant chat and make friends, but you had to make the atmosphere so awkward. Look, you cornered yourself in the end, didn’t you?” Li Tong snickered. “You can start off by kneeling down and throwing away your gun. We can still…”
Qin Yu grabbed Li Tong’s hair and smashed his head against the car another three times. At the same time, he quietly snuck his right hand toward his pocket, intending to pull out his gun and force his way through.
“Since you don’t dare to ignite the dynamite, let me ask you this then. Do you dare to fire your gun?” Dong Cheng turned his head over and roared at his men, “Those who are living off us, you better fucking get your ass over here. We have more men and guns than them, what’s there to be scared of? Do they have more lives than us?”
“You talk too much!” Qi Lin sneered.
“And you’re a useless wimp,” Dong Cheng pointed his finger at Qi Lin’s head and said, “I know what you are thinking. You are wondering what your chances of escaping are after firing your gun.”
“If I can’t get away, I’ll just be fucking buried in Jiangzhou. What about it?” Qi Lin roared back. He grabbed Dong Cheng’s head with his left hand as he pressed his gun closer toward the latter, bellowing, “Trying to threaten me, huh? The last guy who tried to do so, I blasted his head off with my gun!”
The bellow echoed along the streets for a long while before a series of gunshots sounded.
Bang bang bang!
Sparks flickered in the air as numerous bullets pierced through Dong Cheng’s head one after another.
Everyone on the scene was stunned. Li Tong, who thought that he had the upper hand over here, watched with widened eyes as his own uncle fell amidst a puddle of blood.
“Qin Yu, get on the car!” Qi Lin bellowed as he released Dong Cheng’s head and rushed forward.
“Kill them!” Li Tong lost his rationality and roared.
Chaotic gunshots echoed all around.
Qi Lin had lost Dong Cheng as his hostage to curb the others, but instead of dodging or running away, he chose to fire at the two closest people to him.
Given his excellent shooting skills, there was no way he could miss at such a close distance. In an instant, he had already subdued one person, but at the same time, two sparks appeared at his chest area, and blood spurted from his shoulder.
“Bastards, you really want to play, huh? Let’s all die here together then!” Seeing that Qi Lin had started the fight, Qin Yu immediately reached for his gun.
Bang!
A gunshot sounded, and Li Tong cried in agony. He collapsed to the floor on a single knee as blood trickled down his right thigh.
“Come then! I won’t move an inch. You shoot us once, I’ll shoot him once! Whoever dodges is a son of a bitch!” Qin Yu bellowed with reddened eyes. He held Li Tong’s head down with his left hand as he aimed his gun at the latter’s chest. “Who wants to play with me? Step forward!!”
The remaining seven subordinates were in an utter panic. They stared at Dong Cheng’s body and the wounded Li Tong in shock, not knowing what to do at all.
Don’t bother about me and get him!” Li Tong screamed like a lunatic.
Qi Lin immediately turned his gun over and shot Li Tong’s thigh as he glared at the latter in fury, roaring, “I lost my brother and my home at Songjiang, and I went through all kinds to shit to crawl my way here to Jiangzhou! You want to intimidate me? Bloody hell, I only have nothing but my life for you to take! If I don’t put my life on the line, I wouldn’t even survive past tomorrow! Don’t talk to me about what Li Family this Li Family that! Even if you are the chief executive of the Special District, I’ll shoot you if you dare threaten me!”
Right after those words were spoken, another two more gunshots sounded on the streets. Li Tong’s kneecap was devastated by the bullets. He rolled around the ground in pain before abruptly fainting.
Qi Lin turned his head back to the crowd and said, “You twerps think that you are warriors? I can fucking tell you that you didn’t go through the hell you did! Anyone else who wants to play with me?”
His voice reverberated for a long time, but none of the gun-wielding subordinates dared to step forward to answer him.
“No one else? Let’s go,” Qin Yu said as he grabbed Li Tong onto the car with me. “Qi Lin, you’ll drive.”
…
Ten seconds later, while Qi Lin started the engine, Qin Yu shot three bullets toward the group before the two of them escaped by the scruff of their neck.
Li Tong was already completely passed out at the back of the car. Blood was seeping out of his thigh profusely.
Qi Lin drove the car with a slightly dazed look in his eyes.
Qin Yu took two puffs of smoke from an e-cigarette before taking off his coat and tearing off his inner shirt. Then, he turned to Qi Lin and said, “Take off your armor. You’re shot in the shoulder.”
“I… I’m shot?” Even up to this point, Qi Lin hadn’t realized that he had taken a bullet.
“Focus on driving the car and don’t move, I’ll deal with it for you,” Qin Yu said as he unbuttoned Qi Lin’s shirt.
The car cruised along a dark and quiet road. One of them drove the car whereas the other was bandaging a wound. Neither of them was talking at all.
A long time later, the car finally left Ji’an. Qin Yu passed his e-cigarette to Qi Lin before speaking hoarsely, “You are really different from before.”
“Life never gave me a chance to choose,” Qi Lin replied impassively. “After once in Songjiang and once in Jiangzhou, I’m finally starting to see through some things.”
“What?” Qin Yu asked.
“People like me who have no means, no background, and is weighed down by a mountain of burden, the only advantage I have over others is that I can trade this rotten life of mine for the proud and lofty lives of others,” Qi Lin said. “In the end, what a person can gain from retreating a hundred steps is no more than a red-eyed, ravenous wolf charging forward a single step forth.”
“But how many times can you afford to put your life on the line?” Qin Yu muttered as he stared blankly out of the windshield ahead of him.
“To me, Qi Lin has already died back at Songjiang. From this day onward, every day I live is a blessing,” Qi Lin replied smilingly as he stepped harder down on the accelerator.
…
Nearing three o’clock in the morning.
At the entrance of Platinum Castle, Qin Yu turned to Qi Lin and said, “You’re injured. Leave the rest to me.”
Qi Lin glanced at the wound on his shoulder before nodding. “Take care.”
“Will do,” Qin Yu replied as he walked over to the entrance.
…
Several minutes later, at the main hall of Platinum Castle.
“Mister, you…”
“I am here to look for your boss,” Qin Yu told the receptionist at the counter. “We have business to talk about.”
“Have you made an appointment?”
“No. Just tell him that I’m from Special District 9.”
“Understood. Please hold on for a moment,” the receptionist replied.
A short while later, under the lead of three men, Qin Yu was brought to the office on the top floor.
In the spacious room, a man in his mid-forties, wearing a checkered shirt, was sitting on a sofa, watching a show from an internet broadcast. Without bothering to raise his head, he said, “You’re from Songjiang? I don’t recall having any business with anyone there.”
Qin Yu walked over leisurely and sat down beside the middle-aged man. “Give a call to Coco. Tell her that you found the culprit behind Kang-ge’s kidnapping.”
The middle-aged man froze upon hearing those words. He turned his head over as he asked, “Who are you?”
Pah!
Qin Yu slapped the middle-aged man as he said, “I’m telling you to make the call right now!”
“You shithead!” the middle-aged man cursed. In that moment, the three men that had escorted Qin Yu here dashed over in order to curb Qin Yu.
Veins were popping on Qin Yu’s temples. He grasped onto the fake ignition line in his hand nervously, seemingly at a loss as to what to do.
