SUPREME VISION SYSTEM

Chapter 47 - SO BRAVELY...

"Of course I will be there, Cole. Do not worry just go to school. Are you having issues right now too with seeing everything? " Ivory implored.

"No...I mean yeah but I can at least see. " Cole mumbled.

The honking of the SUV caught their attention. They both looked outside the window to see Mr. Evans's sleek black SUV parked outside of their house.

"Oh, it is Mr. Evans." Ivory said.

"Mom...I love you. I got to go now. See you at the hospital. "

Cole picked up his duffle bag and walked to where his mother stood, hugging her, and then finally heading out of the house and got inside Mr. Evans's car.

Ivory waved her hand as she saw them driving away from the neighborhood. Surprisingly this morning she did not feel tired after returning from the diner as usual instead she felt energetic.

She was liking the fact there was someone now who would watch her back if she had a problem. At least someone to watch over Cole when she might not be there for him.

Cole continued to look outside the window as the car drove through the road. The cars speeding on the highway.

"So you know about this guy who got missing from your school?" Mr. Evans asked.

Cole parted his eyes away from the glass window to look at him. He shook his head in a no. Mr. Evans frowned.

"Did your mother not say you go to the same class as him?"

"We do not talk much even when we share a class," Cole replied in a straight forward manner.

"Oh so not a friend, I see. " Mr. Evans mumbled.

"How many friends you have though?"

He questioned again after a brief pause. The drive was becoming too silent for his liking.

"One if you count in school. Two more from the game." Cole answered.

Mr. Evans was a little taken aback by the fact how nice and patiently the young boy was answering all the questions. He was not acting anything like last night.

"Oh, what are their names?"

Cole looked back at him, narrowing his eyes but answered it regardless. He promised his mother he would be a good boy so...

"The one at school us Vincent. The other two are Chris and Matty."

"Oh...nice name there. I like them already.

Their names sound like they are good guys to hang out with. "

Mr. Evans smiled rotating his steering wheel to take the u-turn. Cole did not say anything and eyed him if he was being serious.

"You like them or not going to change anything. " Cole mumbled to himself.

"Ahh...I was just saying I like their names. And by names, you can really detect the respective person's characteristic you know. " Mr. Evans said.

Cole only grunted in annoyance. He just did not know why the ride to school was taking so much time. He was riding in a car for god's sake. Walking to school made him feel like he could reach faster than this.

He just wanted out of talking to this man. He did not hate him or anything. He just did not feel too comfortable talking like this to a stranger.

Technically he was not a stranger anymore for this particular man had helped him and his mother in the time of their needs when no one was there to help them out not even his own biological father.

Plus he was not a bad guy. By now Cole had come to realize that. Who would stick around for so long and helping a woman and her rude teenager son for this long?

He even looked past all of his rude comments and unwelcomed behavior. So it was confirmed that Mr. Evans was not a bad guy after all. So he decided to try and keep it cool with him.

And for the first time, he saw his mother genuinely liking a man after all these years of grieving for her ex, his bastard father who did not give two bucks about them.

When he had all the rights to remarry and be happy with his new family. His mother had the same right too. She had been holding up her happiness too long for him and it was time he let a little bit loose and let his mother enjoy some quality time with a good guy too.

And that good guy was Mr. Evans. He was not like those creepy guys who only lurked around his mother for her external beauty. He seemed the kind of guy who was devoted and loyal.

Speaking of which guy would go five years without dating or seeing someone for five long years after his wife passed out?

This guy was really loyal and a perfect match for his mother if she really wanted to give it a try into the dating lifestyle once again.

Cole did not mind him having around and it was good to have some extra company in the house other than him and his mother who barely talked to each other before the accident happened.

One thing for sure, that living inside the gaming world even just for a day had made him realize how much he missed home back then.

All he could think about was how to get back home when there was a time he hated being home and wanted out of it.

He hated seeing his mother working late to earn money and then dance in the strip club later on. He was annoyed by her smoking cigarette habits out of anxiety and loneliness.

He hated to be in a school where those bullies would joke about how pathetic his life was. How unwanted he was for his father to ditch him and his mother both together.

He knew that these jokes were too old for they had been said to him over zillion times since kindergarten times but it still hurt when he gets to hear them and how sickly they made fun of how his mother worked in a strip club....he just was so tired from all these and wanted a quick break right away.

The only person who made it easier for him to go through school was Vincent. He would stay there for him all the time, ask him to ignore the bullies because their life was more pathetic than his as they found making fun of other's life entertaining as in how bad and dull their own lives were.

Cole was lucky to have a best friend like Vincent, a mother who cared so much about him. He just sometimes forgot to appreciate it all by counting all of the shortcomings in his life.

And that perhaps has caused some serious misunderstanding in his and his mother's relationship that made them not to talk, or communicate much than they used to do before.

But now he was glad that they were into talking terms again. He was glad to see her all smiley and laughing. And also she decided to quit smoking as she declared in the breakfast to him and Mr. Evans as them as her witness.

She was afraid that her cigarette would be another cause of a fire in her house and she did not want that.

She also mentioned that she was aware of the fact that how Cole disliked it but she never tried to stop herself out of her deep anxiety and isolation. Regardless of it, she was willing to now.

The car stopped right before his school main gate. Students were rushing out of the school buses. Some were like the walking type like him who just crossed by.

Cole picked his duffle bag from the backside and slipped it behind through his shoulders. He looked at Mr. Evans and said.

" Thank you for the ride, Mr. Evans even when you did not have to."

"Oh, I love driving, Cole. So it is alright. " Mr. Evans let out.

Cole took a deep breath, "So then I take my thank you back as you like driving to and fro. Goodbye Mr. Evans."

"Wait...wait..."

Mr. Evans stopped him when Cole was about to open the car door and get out to head inside the school.

"Now what?" He groaned.

Mr. Evans did not say anything and just leaned in to which Cole leaned back shocked. Mr. Evans shook his head in denial of whatever Cole must have thought of and instead forwarded his hands to open the car dashboard.

Cole eyed his every move and Mr. Evans pulled out a white rectangular box. He then handed it to Cole.

"Open it. It is for you."

"What is this?" Cole questioned.

"Just take it and open it, kid." Mr. Evans grunted out.

Cole took his sweet time before hesitantly taking the box away from Mr. Evans's hand and then started opening it. He gasped when he saw it was a box of iPhone packets.

"Damn! An iPhone eleven plus? " Cole spoke out in amazement.

"Yeah...an iPhone eleven plus for you."

Mr. Evans mumbled looking at the boy's happy face. That made Cole stop all his actions and turn sideways to look at him. What did he mean by this phone was for him? An iPhone? So expensive...

His last broken phone was a Samsung J7. It was alright but totally not cool to play games in. It had only a ram of one point five gigabytes. While to play games, he at least needed a phone having two or over two-gigabyte ram.

But he could not afford such even though his mom would let him have one, he was aware of the fact that their financial status was not all merry and jolly. So he never asked for it and continued to make use of his old dying cell phone.

"It is for me?" Cole implored if he heard it right the first time.

"Yes..yes. It is for you. Last night you perhaps thought I was asleep but I was sneaking in my phone for talking to your friend. I know how urgent it is for us to have our mobile phones you know." Mr. Evans let out.

Cole could not believe that Mr. Evans knew about him sneaking his cell phone last night. He thought the man to be dead asleep but how come.

"Look it's alright ok. Just take this phone as my gift to you to coming out of the hospital so bravely."
