THAT DAY I BECAME A STAR

ALPHONSE HIGHLANDER POV: 

"Kriekk!!" 

While we are looking at the dragon who is coming like the apocalypse, the Longinus on the ground hasn't left the fight. He fired another dark lightning bolt at miss Farner who is in the air with me but it is blocked by a light wall that appears instantly. She didn't even say anything or move a bit.

"You will die." She pronounces those words with such hatred it gives me the chills. How is it that me, a Diz'kar, is being threatened by mere words? Is that the difference of power between us?

Miss Farner raises her sword again and it brightens up. Her sword starts shining like a second sun and she disappears as soon as we touch the ground. 

Right after that, all I hear is a loud explosion. I look at the Longinus and it actually managed to counter miss Farner. His hand has now turned into a huge sword the size of a human being.. That's a all purpose hand he has there.

"Farner!!" 

"I know!!" 

She moves away and mortar sounds resound. That was certainly miss Excia firing her arrows just like earlier. The longinus still blocks two of them but the third hits him right in the head and another crystal comes out of him.

"Kriekk!"

This doesn't look like a fight where I can intervene. I would most probably be an hindrance with the accumulated fatigue and the lack of Angas I have right now.

"Listen up!! All soliders must evacuate the civilians in the area!!! Hurry up!!"

Suddenly, the protector's voice resounds. I thought he left already. Sadly for him, the soldiers are too afraid and bewildered by the thing that is coming from the sky. Most of them have dropped on their knees already. Even though the heroes are here, they don't seem to have much hope.

"Krieek!!!" 

And this Longinus isn't done just yet. He envelops himself into a sort of cocoon but the script used by the Saintess seems to be affecting it as it looks really fragile.

"Farner , while he is resting, let's make a strategy!!" 

"No, he must-"

"Listen to me already!!" 

Miss Roxcia goes to her sister and grabs her by the shoulder.

"He is dead and gone!! Now is not the time to mourn him! We must fight fast and be efficient. Our divine gears won't hold for long and you know it!! So pull yourself together!!" 

"But I-"

This time, she slaps her sister so hard the sound could wake up a drunkard. 

"For our mother's sake, he is dead!! Dammit!!" 

Saying so, she leaves miss Farner and goes to the Saintess. I look back at miss Farner then see the headmaster of the eternal academy coming, together with all the people we left. Ah, that's right!!!

"Germinia!!"

I run to them but somebody is carrying my sister. She looks better than she was before but still, her breathing is a bit uneven. She needs more treatment.

"So, they really told the truth." The headmaster of the eternal academy is also looking at the thing in the sky. Now, the four paws are visible. It is slowly but surely coming.

It seems everyone has left the building where we fought. I can see all the faces that were there. One of them, particularly, has swollen red eyes. 

"I thank you for your cooperation, Sir Alphonse." 

The headmaster addresses me with respect while the rest of the group moves forward, his pet included. Another one who will be left alone. I would like to take him but I guess his family will be the one to inherit it.

" It's nothing, headmaster. But you should evacuate as well. This thing won't be easy to deal with. Also, when you see my father, tell him I will be going back by myself." 

"I understand. Please, be careful. Losing two prodigies on the same day would be too much." 

"I will have to. I cannot let my friend's death be in vain."

"Your friend, huh…" 

The headmaster looks at me with warm eyes then leave as well. Now, it is only me, the heroes, the Saintess, her protector, the Longinus and the dragon in the sky. I can hear screams and noises coming from the buildings surrounding the school but they are more and more distant, proof that the people are safely evacuated.

"No!! We must destroy this thing first!" 

As half the body of the dragon is already out, the heroes and the Saintess are discussing a strategy. Meanwhile, I am wondering if it is normal for that dragon to need so much time to come out. 

"It's because part of the barrier is still activated." The protector reaches me while looking at it as well. It seems we were thinking about the same thing.

"I see. It's true that Mercuria has a barrier that prevents Longinus from being sent or even exist here." 

"Yes, though it was tampered with just enough for us not to notice. It's is a blunder on our part and now we must face it with everything we can."

"While protecting the people, right?" 

"Exactly. Though don't worry, the strongest reinforcement is coming." 

"The high-commander?" 

"Yes." 

"I see." 

"That's why, I wanted to ask you to help me. While the heroes will handle that thing, we will take care of that bastard." He points at the cocoon that looks darker now that the Saintes has stopped her script.

"Of course. I must avenge my friend after all." 

"Your friend?"

"Kevin Dragonroad. Do you perhaps know him?"

"He is dead?" 

"Yes. He sacrificied so that I could save the heroes and everyone else." 

"I-I... I see. That's why the heroes are so angry, then. But…" 

"Sir?" The protector suddenly places his hand on his heart for no reason. There is weird sort of smile on his face as well. Is he not feeling well? Or perhaps… "Did you know him?" 

"N-no. I don't think so. My heart just jolted out of nowhere. I am sorry. Anyway, we should get ready." Your heart jolted? You are happy about my friend's death? 

"Yes." Now is not the time to think about that. Let's focus.

We walk to the heroes and the Saintess and while the protector explains something to her holiness, I notice that the light emitted by the heroes' attire is slowly fading. It seems that divine gear really isn't going to last.

"Krieekk!!!" 

Finally, the head of the dragon is out and the first thing it does is to remind us that it is here.

"Don't forget. We must rapidly locate and destroy his cores or else the damage to the city will be-"

"We know!!" 

Miss Farner and miss Excia suddenly start hovering above ground then fly to the monster. Wait, they can fly as well? Then my friend wasn't the only one. Does it mean I could do it as well perhaps?

"MEETIA'S DOMAIN!!!" The Saintess first uses the same script that was illuminating the ground earlier. But right after that, she crosses her hand then she starts shining as well. "The blessing of the light."

Just like her, we start shining and I feel like my body is lighter, stronger, sturdier than before. The Saintess is really the only one who could do something like that.

"Kriekkk!!" 

The cocoon also start budging as well so I run to it, followed by the protector. The last hero, miss Roxcia, stays near the Saintess. Is she going to help us?

As soon as the cocoon fades, the Longinus appears. Though its appearance has changed into that of a beast now. A beast similar to a Sloin but with six legs. The beast then disappears or almost since I could follow its movement.

"The second sword." 

"Krieekkk!!" 

I hit him with hurricane and as it flies above the ground, the protector is already near him. 

"Titanic slash!!" 

The protector strikes six times while falling to the ground. However, it seems his strikes wasn't effective enough.

"Elemental storm." Miss Roxcia immediately shoots it with a storm of elements. 

"Kriekk!!" 

Among the storm, I see the Longinus fades then a lone crystal falls to the ground. I guess that's the end of hi…

"Kriekk!!" 

I look at the sky and see a scene good enough to be made into a song. The dragon receives an attack by miss Farner right as his wings leave the portal. That attack was like lightning as it ramifies everywhere and stroke multiples places. 

"Wow." I must admit that I am in awe. This might be a script I should learn from. 

"It's coming, be ready!!" 

The Saintess warns us and soon after the dragon lands. Its landing is only twenty meters away from us so I call for light wall but as the tremor from its landing and the dust comes, the Saintess's wall blocks it all like nothing. Her wall is made like a bee's nest. Jus the thickness of it is something else already but with that structure, it must be way sturdier as well.

The dragon immediately turns around after it has landed and prepares to fire.

"Kriekk!!" 

"Oh shit!! It's aiming at the city!!!" 

The protector runs to it and I follow him while the heroes and the Saintess all run towards the city. 

Soon after, it fires a breath of black flames that could engulfs a whole part of the city. 

"MEETIA'S PROTECTION!!" 

A wall the same size as the dragon appears and blocks the breath but not for long. Miss Farner and miss Excia also position themselves behind the wall and places their hands as if to reinforce it. Making them disappear from my sight. 

"LIGHT WALL!!"

Miss Roxcia seems to be trying to reinforce the wall created by the saintess. 

"The fourth sword!!" 

I immediately unleash my script at the neck of the beast. When it hits, its head slightly goes upwards but not enough to completely deflect the shot.

"Ahh!!" 

The protector also strikes him downwards after jumping on its neck, so as to make its head tilt upwards even more. But the effect is not enough. If only we had a little bit more…

Suddenly, somebody pass by me with such speed I barely have the time to see that it is a human. Then that person reaches the head of the dragon and kicks it so hard it closes while moving upwards.

"Krie-"

Because its mouth closes while it is firing, there is an explosion in it. As the dragon's head lands to the ground, so does the mysterious person whose face I can finally see.

"No way!!"
