The Alpha King
Chapter 56 - 56
"Tell me again why we are out here in the freezing cold when we could be nice and snug inside?" I said grumpily as Killian and I froze our butts off outside in the snow.
"How about you stop whining like a child and do as I say."
I glared at him but kept my mouth shut and tried desperately to clear my mind and think of nothing just as he said. The only problem was that I couldn't seem to think of nothing because I kept thinking, 'think of nothing', if that even makes sense. The ice cold didn't help either as I was shivering and everything seemed to distract me.
"Close your eyes and free your mind."
Easier said than done, I thought bitterly.
"It is easy, an infant could do it," Killian snipped.
"Shit, did I say that out loud?"
"Yes, you did, now focus!"
"I'm trying okay, stop shouting at me!"
"I swear to the Goddess, you better start listening or else I'll get Alpha here."
"Go get him, as if he'd ever take your side!"
"Focus for f-argh..."
"What's the matter, cat got your tongue?" I asked cheekily as I crossed my arms over my chest. Killian glared at me as he replied grumpily,
"No, Alpha forbid us to use foul language in your presence."
I inwardly snickered but kept my poker face on for him. Our bickering wasn't going to get us anywhere. I needed to get a hold of my power and the only way to do it unfortunately was by listening to Killian.
"I'm sorry okay, I'll try to focus."
Closing my eyes I took a deep breath in and out. I tried to relax and not think of anything. After a few moments I heard Killian say,
"Good, now think of a white light, inhale it. Feel it flowing through your body, collect it in your lungs, picture it filling them up. Once your lungs are full, exhale the light through your mouth and let it flow out of your body, allow it to surround you in your own little bubble."
I did as he said and I could visually picture a bubble of white brilliant light surrounding myself.
"This bubble is your own shield, it is your safe space. You can't hurt anyone once it is formed nor can you hurt yourself. Now take in your surroundings, let your senses travel beyond what you think they can. Focus on each individual detail."
I did as he said and tried to listen to as much as I could. I could hear the birds and a slight crunch in the snow as someone was walking through it. I honed in on my senses even more and focused on Killians breathing then the forest and as I went deeper and deeper I felt dizzy as the sounds became too much for me to bare.
I snapped my eyes open, my breathing harsh as I panted. My ears were ringing. Clutching my head I looked up at Killian across from me.
"You probably went to far, that's enough for today. I don't want to kill you or else I'll die a gruesome death. Tomorrow, same place, same time." With that said Killian got up and stalked off. He was such a perplexing werewolf it was unreal.
I was walking back to the castle, my ears still ringing when I jumped out of my skin as Sebastian appeared before me out of nowhere.
"I see your lessons were productive."
"Sebastian, you can't just sneak up on a girl like that! You almost gave me a heart attack."
"Did I make your heart beat a little faster?" He said flirtatiously.
I scrunched up my face and gave him a 'are you stupid look', "Do you have a death wish? Xavier is itching to hurt you."
Sebastian laughed, practically dismissing my warning. His eyes sparkled as he gazed at me with a smirk playing on his lips.
Narrowing my eyes at him I said slightly suspicious, "what do you want Sebastian?"
He took a step closer to me and I moved slightly back. I soon realised I shouldn't have done that, I don't want him to think I'm scared of him because I'm not.
"I want things I shouldn't want and things I can't have but that's besides the point. Right now, however among other things I want to help you."
"Help me? How?" I didn't trust a word he said.
"With whatever you were practicing over there with Mr Grumpy Pants." He said as he gestured to the fields behind me where Killian and I were moments ago.
"I don't need your help, now if you'll excuse me," I said as I made to walk past him.
Sebastian was about to open his mouth and say something when a werewolf interrupted us.
"Queen Luna," he said as he bowed before me, "are you in need of any assistance?" Is Sebastian bothering you, is what he really said.
"No, not at all, I was just on my way to the castle." My eyes flickered to Sebastian and I watched as he stared at the werewolf in annoyance.
"May I escort you?" The young werewolf asked politely.
"N-"
"Of course you may," I said, cutting Sebastian off. The question wasn't directed to him so I don't even know why he thought he could answer for me.
The werewolf stepped to the side slightly so that I could pass and without a second glance at Sebastian I walked off.
"What is your name?" I asked him as he walked besides me in silence. I noticed he was a warrior by his attire and it didn't surprise me seeing as he was young and practically all the werewolf's here were warriors or preparing to fight.
"Rohan, Your Highness."
"Are you a part of His Highness' pack or did you travel here with another?"
"I came with the Hollows Bone pack, from the Norther Mountains." As soon as he said that I immediately thought of Xavier and how he had mentioned he lived there when he was in hiding.
"Do you remember Xav- I mean the Alpha King when he was living there?" I watched as Rohan's brown eyes lit up, almost as if he was reminiscing.
"Of course Your Highness, I don't remember him when he first arrived as I wasn't even born yet but I do remember him. He was...honestly quite scary and ruthless, at least when it came to fighting. Nobody could ever beat him but he never bragged or acted like he was better than anyone there. Most of the time we forgot that he was indeed The Alpha King well that was until he fought."
I remained silent as Rohan continued, I wanted to desperately hear more about Xaviers time there, he barely ever spoke about it.
"Up in the Northern Mountains it's a hard life, nothing comes easy. The King he never lived like one over there, he lived like everyone else and never got special treatment, he refused to be treated differently. Everyone respected him for that."
Rohan stopped walking suddenly, confused I stopped as well.
"Why did we sto-"
"You are his mate, correct."
"Ah...yes," I said confused. Why was he asking me this and of course he knew I was Xaviers mate.
"Did he ever tell you what happened to him?"
"What do you mean?" Rohan looked a bit disappointed for a second but quickly recovered.
"Oh, so he didn't tell you."
"Tell me what?"
"It's not my place to say anything Your Highness. I have over stepped my boundary."
"Of course you haven't, please Rohan tell me what you mean." Rohan let out a little sigh and continued walking. I followed his lead and soon enough we were back walking side by side.
"The story of that night is still whispered around the fires. Everyone has there own theories about what actually happened but of course only His Highness knows the truth."
He looked slightly down at me, seeing as he was taller and then continued. I didn't say anything as I feared he would stop his tale. I grew more and more anxious the more he spoke.
"It was on one of the coldest days in our winter. We didn't have any food and so to prevent us all from staving to death, the hunters all decided to go deeper into the forest to try and find more prey. The King went with, he was after all best hunter we had and the strongest even though he was about seventeen at the time.
Around fifteen hunters left, only six came back, the King was one of them of course but he never came back the same. Something happened to him, something dark and no one said a word of it...."
"How about you stop whining like a child and do as I say."
I glared at him but kept my mouth shut and tried desperately to clear my mind and think of nothing just as he said.
